Excluding those with congenital syphilis all infants born in a hospital in South Korea with hydrops fetalis during a 47 month period were studied. In six out of a total of 17 cases no obvious abnormality was found. Abnormalities in the other cases included leukaemia, pulmonary cysts, ovarian cyst, haemangioma, peritonitis, limb contractures, left hypoplasia and maternal anaemia. The literature is reviewed and the pathophysiology discussed.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to systematically review exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs implemented in South Korea since their inclusion in the National Health Insurance System in 2017.
METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted using international and Korean databases for studies published after January 2017. The inclusion criterion was exercise-based CR intervention in patients with cardiac disease in South Korea. The methodological quality of each study was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Donor heart utilization patterns in Korea are not well known. We aimed to analyze the current utilization rate of donor heart and to evaluate the reason for non-utilization in Korea.
METHODS: Brain death donors were identified from the Korean Network for Organ Sharing registry from November 2009 to December 2019. Baseline characteristics and heart transplant related parameters were compared between transplanted and discarded donor hearts.

Over the last four decades, rapid industrialisation and a Westernized lifestyle have changed disease patterns in South Korea. This study was conducted to review the current state of men's health in South Korea. By reviewing reports of government authorities and domestic and foreign studies related to men's health, we found that in men ≥ 65 years of age, 28.4% considered their health status good, whereas 38.3% considered their health status poor. Malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer are representative examples of occupational cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, and the incidence of malignant mesothelioma is expected to increase sharply in the near future. Although information about lung carcinogen exposure is limited, it is estimated that the number of workers exposed to carcinogens has declined. The first official case of occupational cancer was malignant mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure in the asbestos textile industry in 1992. Since then, compensation for occupational respiratory cancer has increased.

Occupational hepatic disorders are classified into toxic hepatitis, viral hepatitis, and chemical-induced malignancy in Korea. Toxic hepatitis cases were reported in workers who were exposed to dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, or trichloroethylene. Skin disease is the most common occupational disease, but the reported number is small in Korea due to a difficulty of detection and diagnosis in time. This article presents a schematic review of the clinical manifestations of occupational neurologic disorders in Korea and discusses the toxicologic implications of these conditions. Lipodystrophia centrifugalis abdominalis infantilis is a rare disorder described exclusively in Asians. Thirty Korean patients (4 women, 20 girls, and 6 boys) with a clinical and/or histopathologic diagnosis of this disorder were evaluated. The mean age of onset was 6.2 years. In Korea, systematic management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including syphilis and gonorrhea, began only after the end of the Korean War. Since the enactment of the Law on Prevention of Communicable Diseases of 1954, STI has been managed and regularly monitored in high risk group. However, the major turning point was the implementation of the Special Law on Prostitution, which was enacted in September 2004. The national policy on STI management had also changed from management of core groups by mandatory to voluntary examinations and treatment of patients by health examinations.

Biliary atresia (BA) is the major cause of cholestasis and the leading indication for liver transplantation (LT). However, the incidence of BA in Korea has not been reported.
