Congenital tongue base lipoblastoma causing neonatal airway compromise.

Lipoblastomas are benign tumours of immature fat cells presenting in infancy. A lipoblastoma within the airway lumen causing airway compromise is an extremely rare occurrence. We present a 6 hours of life girl who had airway compromise due to a lobulated mass at the base of the tongue. The mass was excised after emergency endotracheal intubation.

Lipoblastoma/lipoblastomatosis: a clinicopathologic study of 25 tumors.

Lipoblastoma/lipoblastomatosis is an uncommon benign adipose tissue tumor of children. Since 1958, 25 of these tumors from 24 patients have been reviewed in the Department of Pathology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Tumors were resected from 19 boys (79%) and five girls, and 20 patients (84%) were < or =5 years of age at diagnosis. Twenty-three tumors presented as painless superficial soft-tissue masses; one tumor was retroperitoneal and was discovered because of vomiting; one hand tumor was present at birth. Tumors occurred in an extremity (n = 11 patients), the head and neck (n

Congenital palpebral lipoblastoma. First report of a case.

Lipoblastoma, an uncommon benign tumor of adipose tissue, occurs in infants and young children. Anatomic sites usually involved include extremities, neck, trunk, retroperitoneum, and mediastinum. To our knowledge, no cases involving the eyelids have previously been reported. Its clinical presentation and appearance are not distinctive; diagnosis and differentiation from other lipocytic tumors are achieved via routine light-microscopic studies. Lipoblastoma is composed of fat cells exhibiting a broad spectrum of differentiation. Simple excision suffices as treatment.

Intrascrotal lipoblastoma: report of a case and the review of literature.

Intrascrotal lipoblastoma is a rare pediatric benign soft tissue neoplasm, and only 11 cases have been reported. The accurate preoperative diagnosis is difficult because of its rarelity and the similarity with the other soft tissue tumors. Among them, accurate preoperative diagnosis had been made in only one case. Thus, almost all of the cases had required inguinal mass excision (and orchidectomy in one case). In this paper, we discuss the accurate preoperative diagnosis of intrascrotal lipoblastoma and subsequent simple tumorectomy via minimal invasive scrotal skin incision, in 1-year-old boy

Lipoblastoma of the hand and cleft palate: is there a genetic association?

We report a case of lipoblastoma of the hand in a 19-month-old female patient with a history of cleft palate. The incidence of lipoblastoma and cleft palate individually is extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, only 1 other case of a patient with both cleft palate and lipoblastoma exists in the literature. Lipoblastoma is a rare benign neoplasm in adipose tissue almost exclusively found in children younger than 3 years. Cytogenetic testing has shown that lipoblastomas characteristically share a clonal chromosomal rearrangement affecting the long arm of chromosome 8. Furthermore, recent

Giant cervical lipoblastoma in infant: a rare case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Lipoblastomas are benign mesenchymal tumors derived from embryonal white fat, primarily affecting children under 3 years of age. While typically located in the extremities and trunk, cervical lipoblastomas are exceedingly rare and may pose diagnostic and surgical challenges due to the proximity of vital structures. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 13-month-old male with an 8-month history of a progressively enlarging, painless mass in the right anterolateral neck. There were no signs of mass effect. Neck CT scan revealed a large fat-density lesion with mul

Lipoblastoma-Related Volvulus in a Nine-Year-Old Female.

Lipoblastomas are benign neoplasms that arise from embryonal adipocytes. They predominantly impact the pediatric population, with most cases occurring in the first few years of life. These tumors typically present as a soft, palpable, painless mass and tend to involve the mesenchymal tissues of the extremities and trunk. Intraabdominal involvement and intraabdominal complications secondary to lipoblastoma are incredibly rare. Here, we present the case of a nine-year-old female who presented to the emergency department (ED) with one week of intermittent lower abdominal pain. The CT abdomen/pelv

Lipoblastoma with unique localization requiring tracheal and esophageal resection.

Lipoblastoma and lipoblastomatosis are rare tumors of infancy. They originate from embryonic fat and localize in soft tissues. We present the case of a lipoblastoma of the neck with localization in tracheal and esophageal walls that required an extended laryngotracheal and esophageal resection. To our knowledge, this is the first report of such localization of this tumor.

[Analysis of ultrasonic features of abdominal and retroperitoneal lipoblastoma in children].

To analyze the ultrasonic features of abdominal and retroperitoneal lipoblastoma in children. A retrospective analysis was performed on the ultrasonic images of 6 children with abdominal and retroperitoneal lipoblastoma confirmed by surgical and pathology in Tianjin Children's Hospital from July 2019 to January 2025. There were 1 male and 5 females, with a median age of 5 years (range: 5 months to 6 years). All patients presented with a single lesion, 2 located in the retroperitoneum, 2 in the mesentery, and 2 in the greater omentum. The median maximum diameter was 98.5 mm (range: 43-130 mm),

Atypical location of lipoblastoma in a 5-year-old girl.

We reported a perineal lipoblastoma in a 5-year-old girl located in the right labia mayor. The lesion gradually increased within 6 months. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a limited solid heterogenous tumor with fatty component. After it had been surgically removed, the anatomopathological examination confirmed that it was a lipoblastoma. Lipoblastoma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor of infancy and early childhood. Symptoms vary depending on localization; signs of compression of adjacent organs may be seen. This type of unusual soft tissue tumors occurred most often in

Intrascrotal lipoblastoma: a report of two cases and a review of the literature.

Lipoblastomas are rare benign mesenchymal tumors of fetal white fat tissue appearing most commonly in children under 3 years of age, and usually affecting the extremities. Only nine cases of intrascrotal lipoblastoma have been reported to our knowledge, and although they are benign, in one case an orchidectomy was performed. We describe two new cases of intrascrotal lipoblastoma, and review the literature.

Lipoblastoma (LPB): a clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis of 59 cases.

Lipoblastoma (LPB) is a benign neoplasm that occurs predominantly in early childhood. We investigated clinicopathologic features, associated conditions, immunohistochemistry, and outcome in 59 LPB identified from surgical pathology and consultation files. Pathology materials, cytogenetics reports, and medical records were reviewed. Immunohistochemistry for S100 protein, CD34, and Mib-1 was performed on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue using standard techniques. Fifty-nine patients had 74 samples, including 14 patients with one or more with local recurrences among the 30 patients who ha

Fine-needle aspiration cytology of a lipoblastoma: a case report.

A lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumor of immature white fat, and more than 90% of lipoblastomas occur before the age of 3 years. The diagnosis of a lipoblastoma is mostly dependent on a histopathological examination of a surgically excised specimen. However, an accurate preoperative diagnosis is essential for the planning of surgery, particularly for a lesion of the head and neck area. We experienced a case of a cervical lipoblastoma of a 23-month-old boy. A preoperative fine-needle aspiration biopsy showed the sample as moderately cellular and showed fragments of mature and immature adipose t

Lipoblastoma-Like Tumor: A Case Report From Costa Rica.

Lipoblastoma-like tumors (LLTs) are rare adipocytic neoplasms, most commonly found in the vulvar region. Their histopathological and molecular features often overlap with other adipocytic tumors, making diagnosis challenging. We report the case of a 41-year-old woman who presented with a painless mass in the right labia majora. An initial excisional biopsy confirmed a lipoblastoma-like tumor, characterized by spindle cells in a myxoid stroma, focal positivity for CD34 and S100, and absence of DDIT3 rearrangement. Imaging revealed residual nodular lesions, prompting a wide local excision, which

[Intrascrotal lipoblastoma in childhood: diagnostic strategies and therapy planning].

Based on a case report of an intrascrotal lipoblastoma in childhood, we present the preoperative diagnostic algorithm and the main differential diagnoses in testicular and paratesticular tumors as well as their surgical management. An 8-week-old infant was admitted with a scrotal tumor known since birth. MRI showed a pinnate vessel supply, originating in the left internal iliac artery. The tumor was exposed operatively and could be completely removed. Intrascrotal lipoblastoma are rare. Like most testicular and paratesticular tumors in childhood lipoblastomas are benign. Benign mediastinal lipoblastoma in a 14-months-old infant.

Lipoblastomas are rare benign tumors arised from the fetal-embryonal fat that occur almost exclusively in children. About 70% of them arise in the limbs but several other sites have been reported. To date there are only 4 cases of mediastinal lipoblastoma in children, described in the international literature. The radiologic examination, including the chest X-ray, sonography and CT scan, can be used to detect the mass and its relationship to surrounding structures, and to define the typical features of the fat-like tissue. A case of a mediastinal lipoblastoma in a 14-months-old infant is repor

A Rare Case of Congenital Buccal Lipoblastoma in a Term Neonate.

A lipoblastoma is a benign tumor of adipocytes originating from embryonic white fat and occurs in the pediatric population. Congenital lipoblastomas, however, are rare, and the incidence of these tumors in neonates is unknown. Due to their rare presentation, congenital oral lipoblastomas can, firstly, pose diagnostic challenges for the pediatrician and must be differentiated from the more commonly seen oral lesions in the newborn and other rare malignant growths. Secondly, these benign yet gradually enlarging tumors may result in obstructive and/or compressive symptoms, an important considerat

Lipoblastoma: an embryonal tumor of soft tissue related to organogenesis.

The concept of embryomas or blastomas of connective tissues is difficult to define because of the usual association with a complex organ and typically malignant behavior. In the soft tissues, lipoblastoma is an example of a lesion which has a well-defined relationship to embryonic white fat and a capacity for differentiation. Its clinical behavior, however, is benign. This review discusses lipoblastoma in detail as an example of mesenchymal blastoma. Other potential mesenchymal blastomas and other primitive tumors of soft tissue with a capacity for differentiation are also mentioned.
