UNLABELLED: Lisinopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE-I) that has been on market for more than 25 years. ACE-I are usually well tolerated and rarely have serious or life-threatening side effects. We describe an unusual presentation of fulminant hepatic cholestasis probably secondary to lisinopril. To our knowledge, this is the second case report which shows lisinopril-induced liver injury though a cholestatic mechanism. The patient was a 59-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes, a high body mass index and hypertension, who presented with a 5-week history of jaundice and itchi

The potential clinical effect of aspirin (ASA) in patients treated with angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors is debatable. Several studies have suggested that ASA attenuates the beneficial effects of ACE inhibitors in hypertension, congestive heart failure (CHF) or coronary artery disease (CAD) and have questioned the safety of using ASA concomitantly with these agents. The present study aims to investigate the possible interaction between ASA and ACE inhibitor in hypertensive rats. Hypertension was induced in adult male Wistar rats using Methylprednisolone (MP) 20 mg/kg per week s.c

Hypertension frequently coexists with gout, and previous studies have suggested a potential association between these conditions. Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) are essential treatments for hypertension, though their effects on gout risk remains unclear and contradictory. We employed data from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) alongside two-sample and multivariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to evaluate the independent effects of hypertension, candesartan, lisinopril, and ramipril on gout risk. Analysis of FA

Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP), also known as IgA vasculitis, is a hypersensitivity vasculitis characterized by palpable purpuric lesions associated with polyarthralgia, abdominal discomfort, and renal involvement. We present the case of a 41-year-old man who was admitted to the emergency department due to generalized purpuric lesions and abdominal pain. During the complementary study, there was no evidence of thrombocytopenia or coagulopathy but confirmed microscopic haematuria. The diagnosis of HSP was supported by the presence of leukocytoclastic vasculitis with perivascular IgA deposits in

OBJECTIVE: Behçet's disease is a chronic inflammatory vasculitis. Vascular involvement is one of the major complications of Behçet's disease, during the course of the disease. Previous studies showed that ACE inhibitors and statins may improve endothelial functions in endothelial dysfunction. The aim of our study is to compare the effects of atorvastatin and lisinopril to placebo on endothelial dysfunction in patients with Behçet's disease.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We prospectively studied 92 (48 female) Behçet's patients who were diagnosed according to the International Study Group criteria. En

BACKGROUND: To investigate the effect of lisinopril on cardiac remodeling induced by smoking.
MATERIAL/METHODS: Rats were allocated into 3 groups: group CON (n=8): control; group CSE (n=8): cigarette smoke exposure; group CSE-LIS (n=8): exposed to tobacco smoke and treated with lisinopril.
RESULTS: After 2 months, the tail systolic pressure was lower in CSE-LIS (CON=116 +/-27 mm Hg, CSE=126+/-16, CSE-LIS=89+/-12; P<.001). CSE animals showed higher left ventricular systolic diameter (CON=8.25+/-2.16 mm/kg, CSE=11.5+/-1.3, CSE-LIS=9.27+/-2.00; P=.009) and myocyte cross-sectional area (CON=245+

Renal transplantation is frequently accompanied by systemic hypertension. In the present study we evaluated the effect of 2.5 mg lisinopril in 12 hypertensive and proteinuric renal graft recipients with stable graft function over 3 months. Only patients with absence of renal artery stenosis, at least as judged by technetium-scan imaging, were included. Lisinopril was effective in lowering systemic blood pressure. Mean arterial pressure was unchanged despite reduction of concomitant antihypertensive medication. Mean serum creatinine was unchanged during the study (1.95 +/- 0.8 mg/dl in the pret

Pemphigoid diseases are a group of blistering autoimmune pathologies including pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and pemphigus foliaceous, which affect mucocutaneous tissues. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, penicillamine, and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors such as captopril and enalapril are associated with drug-induced pemphigoid. We present a case of lisinopril-associated PV which has not been previously reported.

PURPOSE: The angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) is essential in maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis and its dysfunction is associated with various pathological conditions. This study aimed to investigate lisinopril-based radioconjugates for nuclear imaging of ACE.
METHODS: Lisinopril conjugates were prepared using solid-phase peptide synthesis and labeled with gallium-67. The resulting radioconjugates were assessed for their in vitro stability in saline and in mouse and human blood plasma. ACE-mediated uptake was evaluated in HEK cells transfected with human ACE, and the findings were int

There are no FDA-approved drugs to mitigate the delayed effects of radiation exposure that may occur after a radiological attack or nuclear accident. To date, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors are one of the most successful candidates for mitigation of hematopoietic, lung, kidney, and brain injuries in rodent models and may mitigate delayed radiation injuries after radiotherapy. Rat models of partial body irradiation sparing part of one hind leg (leg-out PBI) have been developed to simultaneously expose multiple organs to high doses of ionizing radiation and avoid lethal hematological t

We report a case of fatal necrotizing pancreatitis associated with hydrochlorothiazide and lisinopril therapy. A 49-year-old man who presented with 2 days of abdominal pain and vomiting was found to have severe pancreatitis. The patient denied any alcohol use. In addition, abdominal ultrasound examinations showed no evidence of cholelithiasis or bile duct dilations. Review of his medication history with the family revealed that he was being treated with hydrochlorothiazide and lisinopril for hypertension. An exploratory laparotomy was performed and revealed no common bile duct stones. Unfortun

The present study was performed to clarify the mechanism underlying the beneficial effects of lisinopril on chronic glomerulonephritis. Chronic glomerulonephritis was induced by a single injection of E30 monoclonal antibody (E30) recognizing Thy-1.1 antigen to unilaterally nephrectomized rats. E30 injection resulted in persistent massive proteinuria with a decrease in anionic charge sites on the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) at 8 weeks. Also, renal tissue from rats treated with E30 showed typical glomerulosclerosis and tubulointerstitial fibrosis. Lisinopril exerted a potent antiproteinur

Although atrial fibrillation is common in patients with heart failure, patients with atrial fibrillation are often excluded from congestive heart failure trials or are not analyzed separately. Consequently, while the effect of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors in patients with sinus rhythm is well established, the effect on patients with atrial fibrillation is unknown. The authors hypothesized that these agents might be particularly effective in this patient category, given their antiadrenergic properties and the importance of adequate rate control. Therefore, the effects of lisinopril

1. The population pharmacokinetics of lisinopril were investigated using data collected from two multicentre trials of lisinopril in the treatment of hypertension in elderly patients (n = 40) and patients with renal disease (n = 20). 2. Lisinopril was started at doses of 2.5-5 mg daily and increased at 2-4 weekly intervals as required for control of blood pressure. Steady-state concentration-time profiles were measured after at least 2 weeks at a constant dose. 3. All concentration-time data were analysed simultaneously using the program NONMEM and the influence of clinical factors on clearanc

Type IV renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is the only RTA characterized by hyperkalemia, and it is caused by a true aldosterone deficiency or renal tubular aldosterone hyporesponsiveness. It is frequent among hospitalized patients as it is related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and common medications such as ACE-inhibitors (ACE-is) and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX). Drug-induced RTA commonly manifests in patients with predisposing conditions such as mild renal insufficiency and certain pharmacological therapies. ACE-i use and chronic adrenal insufficiency (cAI) are other significant r

Drug-induced lesions of oral mucosa are well-established side effect of different commonly used drugs. A female patient under treatment for hypertension with an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE inhibitor), lisinopril, developed blisters and ulcerations on oral mucosa 3 weeks after lisinopril intake. Due to clinical finding drug-induced pemphigus was considered. However, direct and indirect immunofluorescence anal-ysis revealed no autoantibodies that are commonly present in pemphigus while histological study suggested allergic reaction. Lisinopril was discontinued from further thera

The objective was to investigate the effect of co-administration of hydrochlorothiazide and lisinopril as fixed dose combination on their intestinal absorption. The scope was extended to enhance intestinal absorption of both drugs. In situ rabbit intestinal absorption through the duodenum and jejuno-ileum was used to monitor membrane permeability of both drugs when perfused alone or in combination. Niosomes containing glycerols (glyceroniosomes) were loaded with both drugs. Glyceroniosomes comprised Span 60 or Tween 40 in combination with cholesterol and glycerol were prepared by bath sonicati
