[Pelvic lymphocele: report of a case and review of the literature].

Lymphadenectomy for pelvic cancer can lead to complications, particularly lymphocele. We report a case of pelvic lymphocele, which occurred in a patient who underwent surgery for stage IIa cervical carcinoma after preoperative radiotherapy. The intervention consisted in colpohysterectomy, with lymphadenectomy without peritonisation. Five months later she developed dysuria and pelvic pain. Ultrasound and computed tomography showed a pelvic lymphocele complicated by renal insufficiency. Kidney function was re-established after intraperitoneal marsupialisation. One year later the patient was in g

Supramicrosurgical lymphatic-venous anastomosis for postsurgical subcutaneous lymphocele treatment.

Postsurgical subcutaneous lymphocele is caused by accidental lesion of a lymphatic vessel that keeps on flowing lymph under the scar. Traditional treatments include aspiration and compression, with probable recurrence, and sclerotherapy which destroys both lymphatic cyst and vessel, creating risk of lymphedema. We describe the case of a postsurgical subcutaneous lymphocele of the left leg that was treated by supramicrosurgical lympatic-venous anastomosis. A single anastomosis was performed end-to-end, between one lymphatic vessel, individuated through indocyanine green lymphography, and one su

Bleomycin sclerotherapy for severe symptomatic and persistent pelvic lymphocele.

Background. Pelvic lymphoceles are frequently described as a complication of pelvic lymphadenectomy performed for surgical staging of gynaecologic malignancies. Case Report. A 72-year-old woman presented with severe symptomatic and refractory lymphocele associated with persistent lower limb lymphedema and recurrent erysipelas. After four CT fluoroscopy scan guided percutaneous catheter drainages, the lymphocele complicated with infection finally resolved with two sessions of bleomycin sclerotherapy. Conclusion. Symptomatic persistent lymphoceles require treatment and nowadays the first option

Bladder outlet obstruction by a lymphocele following kidney transplantation.

Lymphocele is a well-known complication of kidney transplantation. Patients usually present with deteriorating renal function, hydronephrosis, a nontender lower abdominal mass or ipsilateral leg edema. Urinary retention, however, is an unusual presentation of lymphocele. We herein report a case of a female patient who developed chronic urinary retention due to a pelvic lymphocele after kidney transplantation.

Traumatic mediastinal lymphocele mimicking other thoracic injuries: case report.

Thoracic duct injury and chylothorax are rare consequences of blunt thoracic trauma. A contained mediastinal lymph collection (ie, lymphocele) is rarer still. The article describes a case of posttraumatic mediastinal widening resulting from a high-speed motor vehicle accident. During the patient's radiologic assessment aortic rupture, paraspinal hematoma, esophageal injury, mediastinal tumor, and pseudomeningocele were sought and subsequently excluded. At this point a traumatic lymphocele was suggested, and the diagnosis was confirmed by computed tomography-guided percutaneous needle aspiratio

[Lymphoceles after radical retropubic prostatectomy. A treatment algorithm].

Lymphoceles represent a common complication following pelvic lymphadenectomy and radical retropubic prostatectomy. Relevant articles published in the last 25 years and our own results based on a prospective study were taken as the basis for a treatment algorithm for lymphoceles after radical prostatectomy. The type of intervention depends on the clinical situation of the patient. Symptomatic lymphoceles can be managed initially by percutaneous aspiration with or without instillation of sclerosing agents. However, lymphocele recurrence rates are high. Symptomatic, sterile lymphoceles appear to b

[Determination of creatinine in drained liquid. Urinary leak or lymphocele?].

BACKGROUND: Liquid collections around the renal graft that are displayed in 51% of cases implicate a diagnostic challenge and a risk for graft function. We undertook this study to determine the usefulness of creatinine concentration measurement in drainage in patients with renal transplantation. METHODS: We selected patients with surgically corrected urinary leak and patients with lymphocele from November 1, 1999, to November 30, 2008, in whom we determined the creatinine concentration in liquid drainage, plasma and urine. RESULTS: We included five patients with urinary leak and six patients

Treatment of postoperative lymphoceles with percutaneous drainage and alcohol sclerotherapy.

PURPOSE: To assess the efficacy and safety of percutaneous catheter drainage combined with alcohol sclerosis in the treatment of postoperative lymphoceles. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirteen patients with 14 postoperative symptomatic lymphoceles were treated. Drainage catheters were inserted under ultrasound (n = 13) or computed tomographic (n = 1) guidance. Lymphocele sclerosis was performed by instilling 10-100 mL of absolute alcohol into the lymphocele cavity and aspirating the alcohol after 30 minutes. Sclerosis sessions were carried out one to three times per day, usually three times per wee

Abdominal Lymphocele Following Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion: A Case Report.

Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) is commonly utilized for surgical management of degenerative lumbar pathology. Although it is a reasonably safe procedure, it can potentially lead to major complications in case of neurovascular injuries. Occurrence of lymphocele after an ALIF is however rare. We present a case of a rare abdominal lymphocele in a 56-year-old man who underwent L3-S1 ALIF and subsequently developed an abdominal lymphocele. A lymphocele can manifest in numerous ways which can affect and possibly delay diagnoses. In addition to a high index of suspicion, numerous tests such

Renal allograft tuberculosis with infected lymphocele transmitted from the donor.

Transmission of tuberculosis (TB) from a donor through renal transplantation is a rare incident. We are reporting a 53-year-old Qatari woman diagnosed with renal allograft TB infection. The disease was confirmed by isolation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from fluid from the lymphocele and demonstration of caseating granuloma in graft biopsy with acid-fast bacilli seen on Ziehl-Neelsen staining. The diagnosis was made quite early post-transplantation. The presence of the granuloma, which is unusual with patients on intensive immunosuppressant medications, suggests that transmission of the infec

OK-432 sclerotherapy of cervical chylous lymphocele after neck dissection.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Postoperative cervical chylous lymphoceles are extremely rare circumscribed collections of lymph which are usually treated by drainage or surgical exploration, but rarely by sclerotherapy. We investigated the efficacy of OK-432 (Picibanil, Chungai Pharmaceutical Co., Tokyo, Japan) sclerotherapy in the treatment of cervical lymphocele after neck dissection. METHODS: Four patients with postoperative lymphocele who could not be cured by repeated percutaneous needle aspiration and pressure dressing were treated with intralesional injection of 0.1-0.2 mg OK-432 after aspirat

Late aortic lymphocele and residual ovary syndrome after gynecological surgery.

BACKGROUND: Gynecological surgery, as radical hysterectomy or pelvic and aortic lymphadenectomy, accounts for more than 50% of iatrogenic injuries. In premenopausal women, an hysterectomy with ovarian sparing and concomitant lateral ovarian transposition is frequently performed. However, the fate of the retained ovary is complicated by the residual ovarian syndrome (ROS) and one of the most common postoperative complications of the lymphadenectomy procedure is the lymphocele, with an average incidence of 22-48.5%. The differential diagnosis of a postoperative fluid collection includes, in addi

Intranodal embolization for lymphocele after revascularization procedure in the groin.

Early postoperative wound complications in revascularization procedures in the groin very often include complications associated with injury to the lymphatic system such as lymphocele and lymphorrhea with subsequent local infectious complications and the risk of infection of prosthetic grafts. We present a case report of successful treatment of postoperative lymphocele with subsequent lymphatic fistula and dehiscence of the surgical wound by intranodal embolization of the injured lymph node with Histoacryl tissue glue.

Lymphovenous anastomosis (LVA) for treatment of iatrogenic lymphocele in the thigh.

BACKGROUND: Lymphocele is a collection of lymphatic fluid within the body. It is caused by an impairment of lymph drainage and often occurs after a surgical intervention. In this setting conservative treatment is usually ineffective. The aim of this report is to share the outcomes of 11 patients with iatrogenic lymphocele in the thigh area treated by supermicrosurgical lymphovenous anastomosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Eleven patients presenting iatrogenic lymphocele in the thigh were referred for surgery after an unsuccessful conservative therapy. Patients' mean age was 56 years old, two males

The role of pelvic lymphocele in the development of early postoperative complications.

With the increasing incidence of gynecologic malignancy, radical hysterectomy represents an important part of the adequate treatment of these patients. The pelvic lymphocele is a known side effect of pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy. The aim of our study was to assess the role of the lymphocele in the development of early postoperative complications.A single-center, retrospective analysis between January 2000 and May 2017 revealed 1867 patients with cervical and endometrial cancer, treated through radical or modified radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy. Postoperative complica

Hepatic subcapsular extension of pelvic lymphocele after radical retropubic prostatectomy.

Lymphoceles are a rare symptomatic complication after radical prostatectomy occurring in less than 5% of cases. We present a case of a symptomatic lymphocele that occurred after a radical retropubic prostatectomy and obturator lymphadenectomy. The lymphocele dissected along the retroperitoneum and extended into the hepatic subcapsular space and became secondarily infected with Candida albicans.
