Investigation of the change in the degree of Frankfort mandibular plane angle after levelling the curve of spee in different malocclusion groups.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The curve of Spee is a naturally occurring phenomenon in the human dentition. Leveling the curve of Spee can affect the Frankfort-mandibular plane (FMP) Angle and thus the lower anterior facial height. This study examined the degree of change in FMP angle after leveling the curve of Spee in different malocclusion groups. METHODS: In this study, 75 patients who were aged >14 years and had undergone fixed appliance therapy using a 0.022-slot MBT bracket system were included. The pre- and post-treatment casts and lateral cephalograms of the patients were divided into t

Variation in morphology of the maxillary central incisors found in class II, division 2 malocclusions.

Class II, Division 2 malocclusions show several common characteristics. One of the features is the presence of a deep overbite ("deckbiss"), which can be the result of an excessive eruption of the maxillary central incisors. This study tested the theory that the deep overbite, together with the apparent entrapment of the mandible, may be partly due to the bending of the maxillary central incisors or the presence of the Collum angle. In a comparison between the group of patients with Class II. Division 2 malocclusions and the control group, it was determined that the former group exhibited sign

Indications for simultaneous mobilization of the maxilla and mandible for the correction of dentofacial deformities.

As improvements in diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical techniques have evolved it has become increasingly more common to consider simultaneous mobilization of the maxilla and mandible in order to achieve optimal correction of selected dentofacial deformities. In the experiences of the authors, there are patients with specific deformities of the Class III, Class II, Class I, and asymmetry types who can benefit from simultaneous mobilization of both jaws. It is the purpose of this article, the first in a series of three, to detail those specific conditions which warrant consideration for

Geometric analysis of tooth size among different malocclusion groups in a Hispanic population.

INTRODUCTION: Tooth size ratio is important for optimal dentofacial esthetics, occlusal interdigitation, and postorthodontic treatment stability. Tooth geometry influences tooth size ratio; therefore, tooth size normative data may not be practical across diverse ethnic groups. This study aimed to determine whether there are significant differences in 3-dimensional tooth size among patients in the Hispanic population with Angle Class I, II, and III malocclusions. METHODS: The data were collected using intraoral scanned orthodontic study models representing Hispanic orthodontic patients with An

Comparison of Speech Defects in Different Types of Malocclusion.

Introduction Speech has a great impact on human evolution, allowing for the widespread knowledge and advancement of tools. Difficulty in pronouncing one or more sounds is the most common speech impairment. Speech defects are more commonly associated with class III malocclusion patients (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 't' sounds), the second in line is class II malocclusion (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 'z' sounds), and speech distortions are least affected in class I malocclusion (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 'Sh'). Most patients with dentofacial disharmonies and speech distortion

Anterior Mandibular Segmental Distraction Osteogenesis: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Skeletal Angle Class I patients with a severe dental Class II malocclusion are characterized by an unfavourable anterior-posterior relationship between the anterior dentoalveolar area and the skeletal base. Orthodontic alignment posing various treatment difficulties and surgical correction with bilateral sagittal split osteotomy may result in a compromised facial profile. Hence, anterior mandibular segmental distraction osteogenesis has been proposed as an alternative treatment modality for solving facial esthetics, anterior tooth crowding and an unfavourable relationship between
