Cassipourol and β-sitosterol from Malva parviflora L.: a mechanistic study of dual anti-inflammatory action against COX/LOX and TNF-α/BCL-2.

Although inflammation protects our bodies against harmful stimuli, uncontrolled inflammation drives serious chronic disorders. Malva parviflora L. (family Malvaceae) may represent a source for anti-inflammatory metabolites based on its potent anti-inflammatory activity. Its total ethanol extract demonstrated notable inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1/2 (COX-1/COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), with IC50 values comparable to those of the reference drugs indomethacin and zileuton, respectively. The hexane fraction was the most active fraction (lowest IC₅₀) among the solvent partitions (dichlorometha

Ultrafast and reference-free sequence discovery in single-cell data.

Knowledge of RNA sequences, expression, splicing, isoforms, structure and modifications is central for understanding and targeting cellular processes. Revolutionary single-cell and spatial transcriptomics technologies-for example, as deployed by consortia such as the Human Cell Atlas-partially capture this diversity and generate cellular profiles that expand at petabyte scale each year1-5. Yet researchers cannot search sequences across these datasets: standard pipelines do not scale or rely on references, retaining only gene or isoform counts, whereas accessing raw sequences requires collectin

Patterns of self-medication with medicinal plants and related adverse events--a South American survey.

Medicinal plants are useful as a natural therapy to treat minor illnesses, as gastrointestinal disorders or as topic antiinflammatories. Also, they have been increasingly used as a coadjuvant in cronic diseases as hypertension, diabetes or hyperlipidemias. Nevertheless, many of the plants have active principles which are contraindicated or need precaution in certain illnesses as coagulation disorders or in certain states as pregnancy or breastfeeding. In this review we had compiled the side-effects, precautions and interactions with other medicines of many plants which are used in self-medicat

Deep learning classification of INSV-associated weeds in Monterey county using a curated RGB image dataset.

Weeds, defined by their ecological and economic impact rather than taxonomy, present a major challenge to agriculture by competing with crops for limited resources and serving as vectors for disease. In Monterey County, California, one of the most productive farming regions in the United States, Sonchus oleraceus (annual sowthistle) and Malva parviflora (little mallow) have been linked to over $150 million in crop losses due to their role in spreading Impatiens Necrotic Spot Virus (INSV). As precision agriculture becomes more important in high-value production systems, deep learning and image-
