Head Start children's lifestyle behaviors, parental perceptions of weight, and body mass index.

This study examined lifestyle behaviors (food intake, active play, and screen time), parental perception of children's weight, and body mass index (BMI) of children enrolled in Head Start. Ninety-six parent-child dyads participated. Obesity prevalence (15.6%) was higher than the national average (10.4%); however, most parents (86.5%) of obese children did not perceive their children as obese. Regardless of BMI, food intake and active play levels generally did not meet recommended guidelines. Further, children who were less active were more likely to eat snacks (chi(2) = 6.24, p < or = .04). Th

The relationship between community public health, behavioral health service accessibility, and mass incarceration.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between healthcare service accessibility in the community and incarceration is an important, yet not widely understood, phenomenon. Community behavioral health and the criminal legal systems are treated separately, which creates a competing demand to confront mass incarceration and expand available services. As a result, the relationship between behavioral health services, demographics and community factors, and incarceration rate has not been well addressed. Understanding potential drivers of incarceration, including access to community-based services, is necessar

Common muscle synergies for control of center of mass and force in nonstepping and stepping postural behaviors.

We investigated muscle activity, ground reaction forces, and center of mass (CoM) acceleration in two different postural behaviors for standing balance control in humans to determine whether common neural mechanisms are used in different postural tasks. We compared nonstepping responses, where the base of support is stationary and balance is recovered by returning CoM back to its initial position, with stepping responses, where the base of support is enlarged and balance is recovered by pushing the CoM away from the initial position. In response to perturbations of the same direction, these tw

Health literacy, dietary behavior and body mass index in male and female Norwegian conscripts. A cross-sectional study.

OBJECTIVES: Health literacy (HL) is an important determinant of health behaviors, including diet. In military populations, optimal nutrition is critical for physical performance, readiness, and long-term health. In Norway, first-time military service provides a unique opportunity to influence young conscripts' health habits. This study investigates the relationship between HL and dietary patterns, body mass index (BMI), and meal adherence among Norwegian conscripts, with an emphasis on potential sex differences. STUDY DESIGN: A cross-sectional study. METHODS: This cross-sectional study inclu

Differential effects of acute total water deprivation on voluntary exercise behavior and body mass in laboratory house mice.

Various studies have demonstrated adverse effects of dehydration on human athletic and cognitive performance, but most are limited in scope. Moreover, few have studied such effects on voluntary exercise. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of 24 h of water deprivation on voluntary wheel-running behavior (a model for human voluntary exercise) and body mass in laboratory house mice. To increase the probability of detecting the effects of water deprivation, we studied mice from four replicate High Runner (HR) lines that have been bred for high levels of wheel running. Both sexes

Prevalence of mass social media-induced illness presenting with Tourette-like behavior in Germany between 2019 and 2021.

Starting in 2019, in Germany the first well documented outbreak of mass sociogenic illness induced by social media (mass social media-induced illness; MSMI) occurred presenting with functional Tourette-like behaviors (FTB). This study aimed to provide first data on the prevalence rate of MSMI-FTB in Germany between 2019 and 2021 in the general population. We conducted a large-scale representative population survey in cooperation with the USUMA market and social research institute. Between August and December 2021, n = 2.509 people (mean age: 49.5 years, range: 16-95 years, n = 1.276 females) w

[Railroad suicides and attempted suicides in Austria 1990-1994. Extending the hypothesis mass media transmission of suicidal behavior].

Suicide on railways (either by being run over by or jumping in front of a train) is one of the "hardest' suicide methods. In Austria, 617 suicides or attempted suicides on railways were registered between 1990 and 1994. This amounts to 5.73% of all suicides committed in this period with women showing a higher percentage than men. In both men and women there was a predominance of younger age groups; the mean age was higher in women than in men (48.0 vs 40.4 years). There was a significant increase in suicides or attempted suicides on railways after a television report on the stress suffered by

Impact of Diet and Exercise Behaviors on Body Mass Index of Advanced Practice Nurses in the United States.

Background/Objectives: Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) counsel patients regarding diet and exercise behaviors and serve as role models for health promotion and prevention of chronic disease. This study evaluated personal diet and exercise behaviors of APNs and their association with body mass index (BMI) as a biomarker of obesity and disease risk. Methods: APNs (N = 1268) self-reported height and weight, and answered four questions regarding personal diet and exercise. Based on BMI, they were grouped as normal weight (≤24.9 kg/m2) and overweight/obese (≥25.0 kg/m2). Results: The prevalence of

Behavioral health correlates of the death of an acquaintance during a mass violence incident in six US communities.

Adults residing in communities that experience mass violence incidents (MVI) frequently experience adverse mental and behavioral health outcomes. However, little is known about the impact of experiencing the death of a close acquaintance during an MVI, which limits response efforts. Using a household probability sample of adults from six MVI-affected communities, this study examined the prevalence and correlates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and prolonged grief (PGD) among individuals residing in MVI-affected communities who experienced the death of a close acquaintance.

Massed Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (mBCBT) for Suicide Prevention: Results of a Pragmatic Clinical Trial.

Brief cognitive behavioral therapy (BCBT) for suicide prevention has been shown to significantly reduce suicide attempts in multiple clinical settings and populations. Despite its efficacy, some patients will nonetheless engage in suicidal behaviors, typically within months of starting treatment, before they have received all treatment components. Accelerating the pace of BCBT with daily sessions during a compressed timeframe (e.g., 1-3 weeks) could lead to faster reductions in suicide risk. To date, no studies have examined the potential benefits of intensive or "massed" suicide prevention th

The impacts of early environmental adversity on cognitive functioning, body mass, and life-history behavioral profiles.

Early adverse experiences or exposures have a profound impact on neurophysiological, cognitive, and somatic development. Evidence across disciplines uncovers adversity-induced alternations in cortical structures, cognitive functions, and related behavioral manifestations, as well as an energetic trade-off between the brain and body. Based on the life history (LH) framework, the present research aims to explore the adversity-adapted cognitive-behavioral mechanism and investigate the relation between cognitive functioning and somatic energy reserve (i.e., body mass index; BMI). Engineered Nanoparticle Interfaces Optimize Phase Change Behavior through Enhanced Mass- and Heat-Transfer for High-Efficiency Industrial CO2 Capture.

Industrial carbon dioxide (CO2) phase change absorbents often face challenges in initiating phase transition and exhibit slow phase separation and sluggish reaction kinetics, particularly under variable operating conditions. To overcome these limitations, this study develops a novel ionic liquid-based nanofluid absorbent engineered for enhanced performance and operational stability. The system integrates the functionalized ionic liquid [tetraethylenepentamine][1,2,4-triazole], which offers high CO2 loading and reliable phase transition behavior along with titanium dioxide nanoparticles and an

Graphene oxide-encapsulated OV-Co3O4 for efficient nanoconfinement peroxymonosulfate activation: Simultaneously regulate mass transport, electron transfer and transformation behavior.

Thiamethoxam (THM), a widely detected neonicotinoid insecticide, poses potential ecological risks in aquatic environments, making its efficient oxidation and transformation product control important. Peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes have been widely applied for the removal of refractory contaminants, but their performance is often constrained by nonselective radical reactions, inefficient electron transfer, and sluggish mass transport. Herein, a nanoconfined graphene oxide-encapsulated oxygen-vacancy-rich Co3O4 catalyst (OV-Co3O4@GO) was rationally constructed to addr

The relationship between bone strain index, bone mass, microarchitecture and mechanical behavior in human vertebrae: an ex vivo study.

UNLABELLED: The aim of this study was to determine whether the Bone Strain Index (BSI), a recent DXA-based bone index, is related to bone mechanical behavior, microarchitecture and finally, to determine whether BSI improves the prediction of bone strength and the predictive role of BMD in clinical practice. PURPOSE: Bone Strain Index (BSI) is a new DXA-based bone index that represents the finite element analysis of the bone deformation under load. The current study aimed to assess whether the BSI is associated with 3D microarchitecture and the mechanical behavior of human lumbar vertebrae. M

Body mass index and serum levels of soluble leptin receptor are sex-specifically related to alcohol binge drinking behavior.

OBJECTIVE: Binge drinking is a highly prevalent behavior in adolescents and young adults and a risk factor to develop alcohol use disorder. Body mass index (BMI) and blood levels of leptin peptide and its soluble receptor have been implicated in alcohol use disorder; however, their role in binge drinking remains to be investigated. METHOD: We studied associations of BMI, serum levels of soluble leptin receptor (ObRe) and leptin as well as the free leptin index with binge drinking in 93 male and 99 female young adults. RESULTS: In men, binge drinkers showed significantly higher BMI (kg/m2) th

Jump now, pay later: saltatory behavior trades off with body mass and facilitates shelter repair in a seed-dwelling insect.

Many animals inhabit spatially confined shelters that provide protection but impose sensory and energetic constraints. In the Mexican jumping bean moth, Cydia saltitans, larvae use saltatory ("jumping") movements to relocate their shelters (i.e., parasitized seeds) away from aversive stimuli, potentially at a high energetic cost. We tested whether these movements trade off with larval energetic reserves, development, and shelter repair. We placed larvae in one of two treatments: a control group allowed to move freely, and a stationary group in which shelter movement was physically prevented, a

Solvent effect on the detection of peptides and proteins by nanoelectrospray ionization mass spectrometry: Anomalous behavior of aqueous 2-propanol.

To investigate the solvent effect on the detection of peptides and proteins, nanoelectrospray mass spectra were measured for mixtures of 1 % acetic acid and 5 × 10-6 M gramicidin S (G), ubiquitin (U), and cytochrome c (C) in water (W), methanol (MeOH), 1-propanol (1-PrOH), acetonitrile (AcN), and 2-propanol (2-PrOH). Although doubly protonated G (G2+) and multiply protonated U (Un+) and C (Cn+) were readily detected with a wide range of mixing ratios of W solutions for MeOH, 1-PrOH, and AcN, Cn+ was totally suppressed for the solutions with mixing ratios (v/v) of W/2-PrOH (50/50) and (70/30).

Elucidating the Gas-Phase Behavior of Nitazene Analog Protomers Using Structures for Lossless Ion Manipulations Ion Mobility-Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry.

2-Benzylbenzimidazoles, or "nitazenes", are a class of novel synthetic opioids (NSOs) that are increasingly being detected alongside fentanyl analogs and other opioids in drug overdose cases. Nitazenes can be 20× more potent than fentanyl but are not routinely tested for during postmortem or clinical toxicology drug screens; thus, their prevalence in drug overdose cases may be under-reported. Traditional analytical workflows utilizing liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) often require additional confirmation with authentic reference standards to identify a novel nitazene.

Experimental simulation investigation on fracture behavior and bolt anchoring mechanism in a circular tunnel under support in layered rock mass.

This paper aims to explore the fracture behavior and bolt anchoring mechanism in circular tunnel under support in layered rock mass. Seven support methods, horizontal and vertical bedding planes are set up, and cubic rock-like material samples with a prefabricated circular hole and bedding planes are tested under uniaxial compression. During the compression, the failure of the hole sidewall is monitored by a camera. The fracture behavior in tunnels under support in layered rock mass is reproduced. After uniaxial compression failure, the fracture behavior of specimens is analyzed via CT scannin
