Anticentromere antibody positive Ackerman's Syndrome with Granulomatous Anterior Uveitis.

Ackerman's Syndrome or Intersticial Granulomatous Dermatitis with Arthritis has been an issue of increasing number of reports in the last decade which had focused its heterogeneous cutaneous and rheumatologic expression besides the initial manifestations reported by Ackerman and his group. Granulomatosis anterior uveitis has not been previously described. Some patients are reported to have positive autoantibodies but association with anticentromere antibodies has not been previously described as well, to our knowledge. We report a new case of Ackerman Syndrome with cutaneous, articular and ocu

New PCNT candidate missense variant in a patient with oral and maxillofacial osteodysplasia: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Osteodysplasia of the oral and maxillofacial bone is generally accompanied by systemic bone abnormalities (such as short stature, joint contracture) or other systemic abnormalities (such as renal, dermatological, cardiovascular, optic, or hearing disorders). However, it does not always present this way. Recent reports have suggested that genome-wide sequencing is an effective method for identifying rare or new disorders. Here, we performed whole-exome sequencing (WES) in a patient with a unique form of acquired, local osteodysplasia of the oral and maxillofacial region. CASE PRESE

[Obstructive sleep apnea in microtia children with maxillofacial dysostosis].

Children with microtia are often associated with maxillofacial dysostosis, such as Treacher Collins syndrome, Goldenhar syndrome, and Nager syndrome, and they are prone to suffer from obstructive sleep apnea(OSA). Obstruction widely occurred in the upper airway is the main mechanism of OSA in these children, and dysplasia of the pharynx and neurodevelopmental abnormalities may also participate. Early diagnosis requires symptom screening and polysomnography. Imaging techniques and endoscopy can be adopted to fully assess the upper airway status to guide further treatment. According to the child

Temporomandibular disorders and orthognathic surgery.

The relations between temporomandibular dysfunctions (TMDs) and maxillomandibular malformations requiring orthognathic surgery for correction have been the object of different studies in medical literature. The authors have performed a bibliographic revision on this issue to show the state of the art. This study, an analysis of the literature of the last 20 years, is chronologically presented. It analyzes the prevalence of TMD in patients with different types of maxillomandibular deformities undergoing orthognathic surgery and the TMD changes that occurred after an orthognathic surgical treatm

Dental asymmetry and mental retardation: a comparison of subjects with mental retardation resulting from prenatal or postnatal influences.

The development of phenotypic characteristics is believed to be stabilised within certain limits of variability by processes described as canalisation or developmental homeostasis. Dental asymmetry is thought to reflect the relative success that developmental homeostasis has in countering developmental disturbances. The present study demonstrated that dental asymmetry of the permanent dentition was generally higher in non-Down retarded subjects whose mental retardation was associated with a prenatal rather than a postnatal or birth related insult. Because variations in the size and shape of te

A review of syndromes associated with blue sclera, with inclusion of malformations of the head and neck.

Blue sclera is attributed to a diversity of mechanisms, mostly arising in genetic syndromes and, to a lesser extent, in nongenetic disorders and may occur as a side effect of medication intake. A literature search was conducted to establish a database of blue scleral associations. This article represents the most comprehensive assemblage of etiopathologies coincidental with blue sclera, comprising 66 genetic syndromes, 8 disorders, and 4 pharmacologically induced pigmentations. To increase the knowledge regarding the clinical significance of blue sclera, summaries of the systemic and oral maxi

Oral and craniofacial findings of Binder syndrome: two case reports.

Binder syndrome is a malformative midfacial alteration, known also as maxillonasal dysplasia or maxillonasal dysostosis. In this article, two cases of affected patients are reported, and the features of the condition are reviewed. One case presents a cleft lip. Hypotheses about etiology, pathogenesis, and classification of the syndrome are illustrated. This work provides a contribution for the delineation of a differential diagnostic procedure.

[Treatment of dento-skeletal anomalies. Class II occlusion].

With the combination of orthodontics and oral surgery a skeletal distorelation can be treated with a predictable result. A prerequisite for this is a good mutual consultation, in which information for the patient has a central role. To guarantee this a seven-steps procedure is developed and described. Essential aspects of presurgical and postsurgical orthodontics are discussed. Possibilities of surgical correction are described.

Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita: dental and maxillofacial phenotype - A scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) is a heterogeneous group of disorders associated with decreased fetal movement, with a prevalence between 1/3000 and 1/5200 live births. Typical features of AMC include multiple joint contractures present at birth, and can affect all joints of the body, from the jaw, and involving the upper limbs, lower limbs and spine. The jaws may be affected in 25 % of individuals with AMC, with limited jaw movement and mouth opening. Other oral and maxillofacial deformities may be present in AMC, including cleft palate, micrognathia, periodontitis and

Airway management in patients undergoing maxillofacial surgery: State of art review.

Airway management in maxillofacial surgery is a critical aspect of anesthesia and perioperative care, demanding a broad array of techniques to ensure effective ventilation and oxygenation. The anatomical and physiological complexities of maxillofacial procedures necessitate a deep understanding of airway management strategies. Patients undergoing maxillofacial surgery often face heightened risks of airway compromise due to trauma, congenital abnormalities, or the surgical interventions themselves, requiring clinicians to be proficient in both routine and advanced techniques. This narrative rev

Fetal diagnosis and treatment of craniomaxillofacial anomalies.

So many advances in health care are built on the evolution of technology. In the case of fetal medicine, technology has availed an entirely new patient. Advances in prenatal imaging allow us to see and diagnose disease not previously appreciated. Armed with this information, clinicians can better plan for the delivery of the neonate such that any identified anomalies are optimally managed, and the impact on the neonate's health minimized. The oral and maxillofacial surgeon can be a key member in this team by offering expertise in the management of craniomaxillofacial anomalies including congen
