Microbacterium paraoxydans Bloodstream Infection in a Patient with Long-Term Indwelling Central Venous Catheter: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Microbacterium species, a genus of aerobic Gram-positive coryneform rods, are rare causes of human infection with only a few sporadic cases reported worldwide. MALDI-TOF MS, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and even whole-genome sequencing are used to identify the species in a clinical laboratory setting. The study reports a case of Microbacterium paraoxydans bloodstream infection and reviews the literature, including eight additional reported cases of M. paraoxydans infection. We summarize the characteristics of each case, highlight the identification methods, and identify recurrent characteristics

Transcriptome analysis of the growth-promoting effect of volatile organic compounds produced by Microbacterium aurantiacum GX14001 on tobacco (Nicotiana benthamiana).

BACKGROUND: Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which promote plant growth. RESULTS: A potential PGPR strain GX14001 was isolated from marine samples, and the VOCs produced by GX14001 significantly promoted tobacco (Nicotiana benthamiana) growth in a plate experiment. Based on 16S rRNA sequence alignment and physiological and biochemical characterization, GX14001 was identified as Microbacterium aurantiacum. Comparative transcriptome analysis was conducted between GX14001 VOCs-treated tobacco and the control; it was found that 1286 genes were

Effect of subtherapeutic and therapeutic sulfamethazine concentrations on transcribed genes and translated proteins involved in Microbacterium sp. C448 resistance and degradation.

Microbacterium sp. C448, isolated from a soil regularly exposed to sulfamethazine (SMZ), can use various sulphonamide antibiotics as the sole carbon source for growth. The basis for the regulation of genes encoding the sulphonamide metabolism pathway, the dihydropteroate synthase sulphonamide target (folP), and the sulphonamide resistance (sul1) genes is unknown in this organism. In the present study, the response of the transcriptome and proteome of Microbacterium sp. C448 following exposure to subtherapeutic (33 µM) or therapeutic (832 µM) SMZ concentrations was evaluated. Therapeutic concen

Characterization and removal mechanism of a novel enrofloxacin-degrading microorganism, Microbacterium proteolyticum GJEE142 capable of simultaneous removal of enrofloxacin, nitrogen and phosphorus.

In the study, a novel ENR-degrading microorganism, Microbacterium proteolyticum GJEE142 was isolated from aquaculture wastewater for the first time. The ENR removal of strain GJEE142 was reliant upon the provision of limited additional carbon source, and was adaptative to low temperature (13 ℃) and high salinity (50‰). The ENR removal process, to which intracellular enzymes made more contributions, was implemented in three proposed pathways. During the removal process, oxidative stress response of strain GJEE142 was activated and the bacterial toxicity of ENR was decreased. Strain GJEE142 coul

Microbacterium sp.-Nitric Oxide-Ag-NPs Alleviate Mercury Toxicity in Wheat by regulating Redox Homeostasis and Restricting Hg Uptake and Translocation.

Mercury (Hg) contamination impairs crop productivity by disrupting photosynthesis, inducing oxidative stress, and increasing Hg accumulation in plant tissues. Sustainable strategies for mitigating Hg phytotoxicity in agriculturally important crops remain needed. This study evaluated the combined effects of a Hg-tolerant plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium (PGPR), Microbacterium sp. PGPB-3 strain, nitric oxide (NO), and silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) on Hg-stressed wheat. Wheat plants exposed to increasing Hg concentrations were treated individually or with combinations of PGPB-3 strain, NO, A

From pathogen to a commensal: modification of the Microbacterium nematophilum-Caenorhabditis elegans interaction during chronic infection by the absence of host insulin signalling.

The nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans depends on microbes in decaying vegetation as its food source. To survive in an environment rich in opportunistic pathogens, Celegans has evolved an epithelial defence system where surface-exposed tissues such as epidermis, pharynx, intestine, vulva and hindgut have the capacity of eliciting appropriate immune defences to acute gut infection. However, it is unclear how the worm responds to chronic intestinal infections. To this end, we have surveyed Celegans mutants that are involved in inflammation, immunity and longevity to find their phenotypes durin

Characterization of a Pyranose Oxidase/C-Glycoside Oxidase from Microbacterium sp. 3H14, Belonging to the Unexplored Clade II of Actinobacterial POx/CGOx.

Pyranose oxidase (POx) is an FAD-dependent oxidoreductase and belongs to the glucose-methanol-choline (GMC) superfamily of oxidoreductases. As recently reported, POxs and FAD-dependent C-glycoside oxidases (CGOxs) share the same sequence space, and phylogenetic analysis of actinobacterial sequences belonging to this shared sequence space showed that it can be divided into four clades. Here, we report the biochemical characterization of a POx/CGOx from Microbacterium sp. 3H14 (MPOx), belonging to the hitherto unexplored clade II of actinobacterial POx/CGOx. Overall, MPOx demonstrates comparable

Antibacterial efficacy of synthesized silver nanoparticles of Microbacterium proteolyticum LA2(R) and Streptomyces rochei LA2(O) against biofilm forming meningitis causing microbes.

Actinobacteria obtained from the least explored Indian regions were studied for their ability to suppress meningitis-causing bacteria in nanoparticle form. Drug-resistant bacteria and long-term treatment with different medications make meningitis control complicated. Thus, new meningitis drugs are required to combat MDR bacteria. In this study, secondary metabolites isolated from actinomycetes strains, Microbacterium proteolyticum LA2(R) and Streptomyces rochei LA2(O), were employed to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) at 37 °C for seven days incubation. Identification of xenobiotic response element family transcription regulator SadR from sulfonamides-degrading strain Microbacterium sp. HA-8 and construction of biosensor to detect sulfonamides.

Deciphering the regulatory mechanisms of sulfonamides (SAs) metabolism will contribute to a deeper understanding of SAs degradation in the environment. In this study, a SAs-degrading strain Microbacterium sp. HA-8 harboring a highly conserved SAs-degrading genes sadABC was isolated. SadR was a newly discovered regulator, belonging to xenobiotic response element (XRE) family, which negatively regulated the transcription of sadAB genes. Specifically, SadR bound to the sadA promoter region to repress the expression of sadAB genes. While, SAs prevented SadR from binding to sadA promoter to induce

Production of (R)-3-quinuclidinol by E. coli biocatalysts possessing NADH-dependent 3-quinuclidinone reductase (QNR or bacC) from Microbacterium luteolum and Leifsonia alcohol dehydrogenase (LSADH).

We found two NADH-dependent reductases (QNR and bacC) in Microbacterium luteolum JCM 9174 (M. luteolum JCM 9174) that can reduce 3-quinuclidinone to optically pure (R)-(-)-3-quinuclidinol. Alcohol dehydrogenase from Leifsonia sp. (LSADH) was combined with these reductases to regenerate NAD+ to NADH in situ in the presence of 2-propanol as a hydrogen donor. The reductase and LSADH genes were efficiently expressed in E. coli cells. A number of constructed E. coli biocatalysts (intact or immobilized) were applied to the resting cell reaction and optimized. Under the optimized conditions, (R)-(-)-

Engineering the Enantioselectivity and Thermostability of a (+)-γ-Lactamase from Microbacterium hydrocarbonoxydans for Kinetic Resolution of Vince Lactam (2-Azabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-en-3-one).

To produce promising biocatalysts, natural enzymes often need to be engineered to increase their catalytic performance. In this study, the enantioselectivity and thermostability of a (+)-γ-lactamase from Microbacterium hydrocarbonoxydans as the catalyst in the kinetic resolution of Vince lactam (2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-en-3-one) were improved. Enantiomerically pure (-)-Vince lactam is the key synthon in the synthesis of antiviral drugs, such as carbovir and abacavir, which are used to fight against HIV and hepatitis B virus. The work was initialized by using the combinatorial active-site sat

Using fungal-bacterial community analysis to explore potential microbiomes to manage Meloidogyne incongnita.

Rhizosphere microbial communities strongly affect outbreaks of root-knot nematode (RKN) disease. However, little is known about the interactions among fungi, bacteria and RKN. The bacterial and fungal community compositions in the rhizospheres of four representative tobacco varieties, both resistant and susceptible to RKN, were characterized using 16S rRNA gene sequencing for bacteria and internal transcribed spacer gene sequencing for fungi. Our findings revealed that the fungi played crucial roles in facilitating the cross-kingdom and symbiotic fungal-bacterial interactions to suppress RKN.

Isolation and characterization of a heavy metal- and antibiotic-tolerant novel bacterial strain from a contaminated culture plate of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, a green micro-alga.

Background:Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, a green micro-alga, is normally cultured in laboratories in Tris-Acetate Phosphate (TAP), a medium which contains acetate as the sole carbon source. Acetate in TAP can lead to occasional bacterial and fungal contamination. We isolated a yellow-pigmented bacterium from a Chlamydomonas TAP plate. It was named Clip185 based on the Chlamydomonas strain plate it was isolated from. In this article we present our work on the isolation, taxonomic identification and physiological and biochemical characterizations of Clip185. Methods: We measured sensitivities of Cl
