OBJECTIVE: This review aimed to synthesize evidence on the design characteristics, implementation considerations, and operational challenges of mobile cancer screening units.
METHODS: A PRISMA-guided review was conducted. Data extracted included screening type, target population, program characteristics, mobile unit features, and reported implementation barriers. Study quality was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT).
RESULTS: Sixty-four articles published across 13 countries met the inclusion criteria. Most interventions focused on breast cancer screening (n = 37), followe

BACKGROUND: Substance use treatment providers have increasingly developed novel engagement and low-threshold treatment services (such as mobile treatment units) to meet the needs of people with opioid use disorder (OUD). Use of these service models has outpaced the research on their effectiveness. The current study examines the effectiveness of a mobile engagement unit in connecting individuals with OUD to a treatment program.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 468 Medicaid-enrolled individuals served through a managed care behavioral health system. Analyses used administrative

With annual point-in-time counts indicating a rise in unsheltered homelessness in the United States, much attention has been paid to how to best provide care to this population. Mobile medical units (MMUs) have been utilized by many programs. However, little is known regarding the evidence behind their effectiveness. A scoping review is conducted of research on MMU provision of medical services for populations experiencing homelessness in the USA to examine the extent and nature of research activity, summarize available evidence, and identify research gaps in the existing literature. Following

A proactive clinical approach to stroke care improved functional outcomes with implementation of specialized in-hospital stroke units, urgently delivered systemic thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy and most recently with mobile stroke units deployed in the field. An 18% absolute difference in outcomes as a shift across all modified Rankin Scale strata at 3 months in the recent Berlin study may not be explained by just 8.8% more patients treated within the golden hour for thrombolytic treatment from symptom onset. These findings parallel the findings in the largest controlled multi-center BE

INTRODUCTION: An estimated 5800 to 46,500 lives are lost due to homelessness each year. Experiencing homelessness and poor health are cyclically related, with one reinforcing the other. Mobile programs, which include vehicles that travel to deliver care, and street medicine, the act of bringing care to spaces where PEH live, may play a role in alleviating this burden by providing trusted, affordable, and accessible care to this community.
METHODS: We conducted a scoping review of peer-reviewed literature on the role of mobile clinics and street medicine in providing care for PEH by searching

The Ebola virus, which became a global health concern in 2014, is an example of an emerging pathogen. Ebola virus disease can only be diagnosed in biosafety level 3 and 4 laboratories, which provide the security required to avoid exposure of both the staff and the environment to the pathogen. These laboratories are often far from the site of outbreaks, which may occur in rural areas or border regions (when the disease is imported from a neighboring country). Rapidly deployable laboratory units can bring the diagnosis closer to the outbreak site and thus significantly shorten the time to delive

BACKGROUND: Homelessness remains a public health concern in the United States (U.S.) and ending veteran homelessness has been a significant priority for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for over a decade. However, veterans experiencing homelessness (VEH) have unmet healthcare needs and face numerous barriers to accessing and engaging in healthcare.
OBJECTIVES: The Veterans Health Administration's (VHA) Homeless Programs Office (HPO) implemented mobile medical units (MMUs) within the tailored primary care model established in 2011 called the Homeless Patient Aligned Care Team (HPAC

UNLABELLED: There is a significant unmet need for mental health services in the United States. Many communities have responded to the unmet need by creating mobile crisis response programs. Enhanced understanding of the differences and common themes in mobile crisis response programs will guide efforts to construct frameworks for successful future program development. This review aims to characterize the current state of the industry among mobile crisis response teams.
METHODS: We employed a scoping review methodology to explore the state of the work in mobile crisis response.

This report describes the development and deployment of the Public Health Quality Tool (PHQTool), an online resource designed to help mobile health clinics (MHCs) assess and improve the quality of their public health services. MHCs provide essential clinical and public health services to underserved populations but have historically lacked tools to assess and improve the quality of their work. To address this gap, the PHQTool was developed as an online, evidence-based, self-assessment resource for MHCs, hosted on the Mobile Health Map (MHMap) platform. This report documents the collaborative d

Purpose: To describe structural and systemic barriers to ophthalmic care experienced by underserved patients, particularly those facing language obstacles, immigration-related constraints, limited insurance coverage, financial hardship, and navigation challenges in an urban setting, and to examine these barriers through a complexity-informed lens. Methods: We conducted a narrative literature review focused on healthcare disparities, patient navigation, complexity in care delivery, and time-sensitive prioritization frameworks in ophthalmology. Findings were integrated with case vignettes drawn

BACKGROUND: Rural populations face higher risks of poor health outcomes in part due to limited access to diagnostic imaging. Geographical barriers may be exacerbated by longer travel distances, limited public transportation, and structural and policy factors such as Certificate of Need (CON) regulations. Mobile MRI units have been deployed across Michigan; however, it remains unclear whether they are deployed in a manner that meaningfully reduces geographic barriers to MRI access in rural populations.
PURPOSE: To examine geographic disparities in access to MRI machines across Michigan countie

1. Trachoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in Kenya, but it may be prevented in the early stages by tetracycline ointment. Mobile eye units (MEUs) provide the means by which technicians travel to remote villages. 2. Ophthalmic clinical officers travel to remote areas, providing examinations, diagnoses, ointments, eye medications, and lectures on eye care. In addition, villagers are trained in basic health and hygiene to help prevent many eye disorders. 3. Once the MEUs are purchased, continuing funds are needed to keep them running and to supply them with gasoline.

BACKGROUND: Evidence from other high-risk industries has demonstrated that teamwork skills can be taught and effective teamwork may improve safety. Increasingly, health care providers, hospital administrators, and quality and safety professionals are considering simulation as a strategy to improve quality and patient safety.
MOBILE OBSTETRIC SIMULATION AND TEAM TRAINING PROGRAM: A mobile obstetric emergency simulation and team training program was created to bring simulation technology and teamwork training used routinely in other high reliability fields directly to health care institutions.

BACKGROUND: Intensive care unit early mobility programs improve patients' functional status and outcomes. An electronic health record-based communication tool improved interprofessional communication within an early mobility program. Long-term sustainability of this communication tool has not been evaluated.
LOCAL PROBLEM: Ineffective interprofessional communication was perceived as a barrier to success of an intensive care unit early mobility program at the project institution. An electronic health record-based communication tool was successfully implemented to improve communication. Sustain

This paper describes the development of the UK military's Ebola Virus Disease Treatment Unit (EVD TU) that was deployed to Sierra Leone as part of the UK response to the West African Ebola virus disease (EVD) epidemic in 2014 and 2015. It highlights specific challenges faced within this unique Field Hospital environment. The military EVD TU was initially established to provide confidence to international healthcare workers coming to Sierra Leone to assist in the international response to the EVD epidemic and formed a key part of the action plan by the UK's Department for International Developm
