Acrylamide based molecularly imprinted polymer for detection of m-nitrophenol.

Molecular imprinting has already proven to be one of the most promising artificial receptors that can lead to specific recognition at molecular level. In this work, molecular imprinting polymers (MIPs) were prepared from acrylamide (ACM) as functional monomer and m-nitrophenol as template respectively. Bis-acrylamide was used as cross-linker. Synthesis was carried out first by ultrasonication of the reaction mixture containing monomer, cross-linker and template in chloroform. Subsequently, the polymerization was conducted at high temperature catalyzed by initiator. Interaction between function

Monodispersed molecularly imprinted polymer for creatinine by modified precipitation polymerization.

A monodispersed molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for creatinine was prepared by modified precipitation polymerization. The retention and molecular-recognition properties of the prepared MIP were evaluated by the hydrophilic interaction chromatography mode using a mixture of ammonium acetate buffer and acetonitrile as a mobile phase in liquid chromatography. The MIP had a specific recognition ability for creatinine, while other structurally related compounds, such as hydantoin, 1-methylhydantoin, 2-pyrrolidone, N-hydroxysuccinimide and creatine, could not be recognized on the MIP. In additio

Electrochemical characterisation of a conductive polymer molecularly imprinted with an Amadori compound.

Type II diabetes is a disease that is often characterised by elevated levels of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), e.g. glycated haemoglobin (HbA(1c)), in a patient's bloodstream. This glycation reaction occurs when the carbonyl group of a circulating sugar (glucose) reacts with the amino group of the terminal valine residue of a haemoglobin chain, to form an unstable imine. This compound then undergoes an Amadori rearrangement to form the stable Amadori compound N-(1-deoxy-beta-D-fructopyranose-1-yl)-L-valine (Fru-Val). As an initial approach to fabricating a sensor for the Fru-Val compo

Molecular engineering of fluorescent penicillins for molecularly imprinted polymer assays.

The interaction of seven novel fluorescent labeled beta-lactams with a library of six polymer materials molecularly imprinted (MI) with penicillin G (PenG) has been evaluated using both radioactive and fluorescence competitive assays. The highly fluorescent competitors (emission quantum yields of 0.4-0.95) have been molecularly engineered to contain pyrene or dansyl labels while keeping intact the 6-aminopenicillanic acid moiety for efficient recognition by the cross-linked polymers. Pyrenemethylacetamidopenicillanic acid (PAAP) is the tagged antibiotic that provides the highest selectivity wh

Construction and application of hydrophilic magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers for the analysis of sulfamethoxazole.

Sulfamethoxazole (SMX) is a widely used toxic and persistent antibiotic, and its residues in water environments pose potential health risks. Interfering substances in complex matrices seriously affect its accurate detection. In this study, hydrophilic magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers were synthesized, which were combined with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to selectively enrich and detect SMX in environmental water and aquatic products. A series of characterization tests verified the successful fabrication of the material. The adsorption complied w

Biotin-specific molecularly imprinted polymers as a biomimetic test line in lateral flow assays.

Lateral flow assays are widely used for rapid diagnostics at the point of care. However, their dependence on biological receptors limits their stability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. This work demonstrates the use of biotin-specific molecularly imprinted polymers (biotin-MIPs) as synthetic recognition elements in nucleic acid lateral flow (NALF) assays. The biotin-MIPs were synthesized, structurally characterized, and integrated into the nitrocellulose membrane as a test line. Their selective binding affinity was first validated using biotinylated horseradish peroxidase as a model anal

Rotating Cylinder-Assisted Nanoimprint Lithography for Enhanced Chemisorbable Filtration Complemented by Molecularly Imprinted Polymers.

Rotating cylindrical stamp-based nanoimprint technique has many advantages, including the continuous fabrication of intriguing micro/nanostructures and rapid pattern transfer on a large scale. Despite these advantages, the previous nanoimprint lithography has rarely been used for producing sophisticated nanoscale patterns on a non-planar substrate that has many extended applications. Here, the simple integration of nanoimprinting process with a help of a transparent stamp wrapped on the cylindrical roll and UV optical source in the core to enable high-throughput pattern transfer, particularly

[Advances in application of molecularly imprinted polymers to the detection of polar pesticide residues].

Polar pesticides can be primarily classified as fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides; their rich variety and low cost have led to their extensive utilization in agriculture. However, the overuse of polar pesticides can lead to environmental contamination, such as water or soil pollution, which can also increase the risk of pesticide exposure among human life directly, or indirectly through contact with animal and plant-derived food. There are considerable differences in the physical and chemical properties of polar pesticides, as well as their trace amounts in complex food and environmenta

Sensitive detection of L-5-hydroxytryptophan based on molecularly imprinted polymers with graphene amplification.

A novel electrochemical sensor was presented for the determination of L-5-hydroxytryptophan (L-5-HTP) based on a graphene-chitosan molecularly imprinted film modified on the surface of glassy carbon electrode (GR-MIP/GCE). The morphology and composition of the imprinted film were observed in field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), raman spectroscopy and fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The properties of the sensor were evaluated by electrochemical techniques. Under the optimal conditions, the peak currents of L-5-HIP were found to be linear in the concentration range of 0.05-7.0

Surface plasmon resonance sensor based on magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers amplification for pesticide recognition.

We reported here a method to enhance detection sensitivity in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy integrated with a surface molecular imprinting recognition system and employing magnetic molecular imprinting polymer nanoparticles for amplifying SPR response. The proposed magnetic molecular imprinting polymer was designed by self-polymerization of dopamine on the Fe3O4 NPs surface in weak base aqueous solution in the presence of template chlorpyrifos (CPF). The imprinted Fe3O4@polydopamine nanoparticles (Fe3O4@PDA NPs) were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-v

Determination of L-tryptophan based on graphene oxide-magnetite-molecularly imprinted polymers and chemiluminescence.

A new method for determination of L-tryptophan (L-try) using the flow injection chemiluminescence (FI-CL) system of KMnO(4)-SnCl(2)-CHOH based on a graphene oxide-magnetite-molecularly imprinted polymer (GM-MIP) is described. The L-try GM-MIP was synthesized using graphene oxide (G) which improved the adsorption capacity as carrier, and magnetite nanoparticles which made the polymers easier to use in the sensor. The adsorption performance and properties were characterized. The GM-MIP was used in CL analysis to increase the selectivity and the possible mechanism was also discussed. The CL senso

Comparison of binding behavior for molecularly imprinted polymers prepared by hierarchical imprinting or Pickering emulsion polymerization.

The aim of this study was the evaluation of the binding performances and selectivity of molecularly imprinted beads prepared toward several penicillins (i) by hierarchical bulk polymerization in the pores of template-grafted silica microbeads (hMIPs) and (ii) by Pickering emulsion polymerization in the presence of template-decorated silica nanobeads (pMIPs). 6-Aminopenicillanic acid was chosen as the common fragmental mimic template. Both approaches produced micron-sized polymeric beads with good recognition properties toward the target ligands whereas the selectivity pattern appeared quite di

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Nanoparticles for Lung-Cancer-Cell-Surface Proteomics.

The identification and targeting of lung-cancer-cell-surface proteins are important for drug development. Molecularly imprinted polymer nanoparticles (nanoMIPs) offer a synthetic approach for the recognition of proteins on the cell surfaces. This work outlines the use of a novel 'snapshot imprinting' approach to characterize differences in the cell-surface proteomes of lung cancer cell lines (A549, H460, H522) and a non-cancerous cell line (BEAS-2B) to potential protein targets for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomics identified 2381 prot

Molecularly imprinted polymer-based SERS sensing of transferrin in human serum.

Specific detection of glycoproteins such as transferrin (TRF) related to neurological diseases, hepatoma and other diseases always plays an important role in the field of disease diagnosis. We designed an antibody-free immunoassay sensing method based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) formed by the polymerization of multiple functional monomers for the sensitive and selective detection of TRF in human serum. In the sandwich surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensor, the TRF-oriented magnetic MIP nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SiO2-MIPs) served as capture units to specifically recognize TR

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer-Based Electrochemical Sensors for the Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases.

The appearance of biological molecules, so-called biomarkers in body fluids at abnormal concentrations, is considered a good tool for detecting disease. Biomarkers are usually looked for in the most common body fluids, such as blood, nasopharyngeal fluids, urine, tears, sweat, etc. Even with significant advances in diagnostic technology, many patients with suspected infections receive empiric antimicrobial therapy rather than appropriate treatment, which is driven by rapid identification of the infectious agent, leading to increased antimicrobial resistance. To positively impact healthcare, ne

SPE columns with pH-sensitive molecularly imprinted polymer toward gentamicin.

Molecularly imprinted polymers with affinity toward gentamicin were synthesised according to the principles of green chemistry, in an aqueous solution at ambient temperature. Polyacrylic acid, a polymer that changes chain conformation depending on the pH, was incorporated into the polymer network. This approach allowed the development of a material regeneration method using changes in the alkalinity of the solution. Chiral acidic molecularly imprinted polymer for enantio-separation of norepinephrine racemate.

We are looking into how well a copolymeric material made of poly (maleic acid-co-4-vinylpyridine) cross-linked with divinylbenzene can separate L-norepinephrine (L-NEP) from (±)-NEP. The initial step in this direction was the synthesis and subsequent analysis of L-NEP-maleimide chiral derivative. A 4-vinylpyridine/divinylbenzene combination was copolymerized with the resultant chiral maleimide. After heating the polymer materials in a high-alkaline environment to breakdown the connecting imide bonds, they were acidified in an HCl solution to eliminate the incorporated L-NEP species.
