Here we describe an eight-year-old miniature schnauzer (MS) dog from Brazil with Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS) and the single base pair substitution in AMHR2 exon 3, first detected in this breed in the USA. This finding is evidence of mutation dissemination to South America. In PMDS, a type of XY Disorder of Sex Development (DSD), dogs with a male karyotype and external phenotype also have a uterus, oviducts, and a cranial vagina internally. Approximately half of PMDS MS are unilaterally or bilaterally cryptorchid and many develop pyometra and/or Sertoli cell tumor. Bilateral Serto

The diagnosis and treatment of a patient with Mullerian duct cyst torsion combined with bladder cancer were retrospectively analyzed. The patient received an open abdominal operation with right accessory resection plus pelvic adhesion release, and conducted microscopic examination for the bladder under general anesthesia. The results of histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of Mullerian duct cyst and papillary urothelial carcinoma at low level. After surgery, the patient received chemotherapy and follow-up observation, and all the indices for the patient were normal and no obvi

A case of late first trimester/early second trimester recurrent pregnancy loss in a 30-year-old para 3+0 Nigerian woman is reported. She was referred to the Radiologist for Hysterosalpingography (HSG) work-up following repeated spontaneous abortions at early pregnancy stage. There was no history of trauma, surgery, alcohol/drug abuse or haematological disorder such as sickle cell anaemia or Thalassemia. Her body weight was 105 kg. Systemic examination was normal. The HSG however demonstrated widely separated horns of the single endometrial cavity with intercornual angle measuring 107 degrees i

OBJECTIVE: To study the diagnosis and treatment methods of Mullerian duct cyst.
METHODS: The records of 48 patients with Mullerian duct cyst were reviewed and the diagnosis and treatment methods were compared. From January 1993 to December 1997, eight patients visited the clinic, most of whom complained of the chronic prostatitis symptom. They all underwent the transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS). Seven patients were treated by transperineal TRUS-guided aspiration therapy. One patient with the large Mullerian duct cyst was extirpated by open operation. From January 2002 to December 2007, we tr

We are reporting on the case of a 46XY male patient that presented a bilateral testicular seminoma in the setting of bilateral cryptorchidia and left inguinal hernia. The patient received five courses of cisplatin/ciclophosphamide followed by 3,000 cGy of radiation. The patient then, underwent resection of the residual mass and of an unrecognizable pelvic structure. The histopathological analysis revealed necrosis of the residual seminoma and an atrophic uterus. Currently, the patient is alive and asymptomatic at 88 months of follow-up. This is the third case reported of a patient with persist

Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS) is a rare disorder of defective sexual development in males. It is characterized by aberrant synthesis or inadequate action of Mullerian inhibiting factor resulting in derivatives of Mullerian duct, i.e. uterus, fallopian tube and upper vagina, to persist in a phenotypic male with 46XY karyotype. Here, we report a 19-year-old male with bilateral undescended testes. Further evaluation revealed that the patient had both his testes placed intra-abdominally along with a rudimentary uterus.

Mullerian duct anomalies (MDAs) are congenital defects of the female genital system that arise from abnormal embryological development of the Mullerian ducts. Septate uterus is the most common, resulting from incomplete resorption of the medial septum after fusion of the Mullerian ducts. Two main types of septate uterus exist, including septa that extend completely or partially from the uterine fundus to the cervical os. The combination of a uterine septum with a double cervix has been previously described; however, in most cases the septum was complete. We present a case of a 23-year-old fema…

According to additional anomalies, transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is classified into three groups. Type-2 TTE, accompanied by persistent mullerian duct syndrome, constitutes approximately 20% of the patients. Surgical treatment should be planned after careful physical examination, ultrasonography, and genetic/endocrinologic evaluation. Herniorrhaphy, orchiopexy with testicular biopsy, and excision of the mullerian structures are the most appropriate surgical approaches in cases of TTE with persistent mullerian duct syndrome. We aimed to share our approach to the diagnosis and treatment of

Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS) is a rare form of Disorder of sex development in which Mullerian duct derivatives (fallopian tubes, uterus and the proximal vagina) are present in an otherwise normally differentiated 46 XY male. In the majority of cases, PMDS is a surprise finding either during orchidopexy or during inguinal hernia repair. We report a case of 4 year child with female type (Type III) PMDS. We are discussing the presentation, management and review of the literature.

Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS) is a rare form of the 46 XY disorders of sexual differentiation, characterized by the presence of a uterus and fallopian tubes due to the failure of Mullerian duct regression in genotypically normal males. More than 150 cases have been recorded, most of them in adults. In most cases, the PMDS is discovered during surgery for inguinal hernia or cryptorchidism, or by the presence of transverse testicular ectopia (TTE). The presence of PMDS with TTE is even more uncommon. In TTE, both testes descend through the same inguinal canal into the same scrotal sa

Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS) is a rare syndrome and sometimes the cause of a common problem in paediatric and surgical practice, namely undescended testes. PMDS is a recessive disease in which there is a defect in anti-Mullerian hormone secretion or receptor activity resulting in persistence of Mullerian structures such as a uterus or fallopian tubes with otherwise normal virilisation. Here the authors present a case of a 1½-year-old boy who was referred to their hospital because of unilateral cryptorchidism. During laparoscopic surgery, two gonads were present joined toget

BACKGROUND: Müllerian duct anomalies consist of a set of congenital structural malformations that occur when the Müllerian ducts do not develop properly during embryonic life. Their molecular genetic basis is poorly understood.
METHODS: In this study, we conducted mutation analysis of the HOXA10 gene in a cohort of 109 Chinese women with Müllerian duct anomalies.
RESULTS: We identified a novel mutation (Y57C) in one patient with a didelphic uterus. The mutation affected the transcriptional regulation capacity of HOXA10.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that mutation of HOXA10 gene may contribu

Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome is a rare form of internal male pseudohermaphroditism, in which Mullerian duct derivatives (uterus and fallopian tubes) are present in a genotypic (46XY) and phenotypic male. Over 150 cases have been reported, mainly from outside the African setting. This article presents an unexpected case encountered in an African setting. Handicaps in the management were unavailability of necessary diagnostic tools as well as lack of finance to assess those available. Although a diagnosis was eventually arrived at and the parents thoroughly counseled, the patient has not r

Report about a Gartnergang-carcinoma of the cervix uteri of a 24 years old woman. The cytological findings as well as the typical histological characteristics are represented. Persisting particles of the Gartnergang have been proved at the right lateral wall of the cervix uteri and in the lower parts of the corpus uteri. Report about a woman of 62 years. A Mullerian mixed tumour of the corpus uteri with myxoedematous parts has been diagnosed. It must be pointed out, that previous radiotherapy of the true pelvis may possible incluence the development of a Mullerian mixed tumour.

BACKGROUND: We report a novel mutation in a case of Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS). PMDS is characterized by the persistence of female reproductive organs derivatives in a 46,XY subject due to the failure of the Mullerian duct to regress in utero. To date, 53 different mutations of the anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) gene, including the present one, have been identified.
CLINICAL CASE: A 2-week-old male presented with bilateral cryptorchidism and normal male external genitalia. His karyotype was 46,XY. hCG stimulation test was normal. At age 1 year and 4 months, he underwent laparosco
