[Rare case of multiple pulmonary nodules--a case report].

The article presents the case of a 44 years old female patient admitted in the hospital for a solitary pulmonary nodule discovered through a chest X-ray performed for left thoracic pain. Despite the young age, a lot of comorbidities were present: severe dyslipidemia, ischemic right cerebellar lesion, degenerative periventricular lesions, chronic autoimmune thyroiditis, uterine fibroma, fibrocystic mastitis, polyglobulia of uncertain etiology and Rendu-Osler disease. The investigation which showed the nature of the pulmonary nodule was the CT scan with intravenous contrast, which demonstrated t

Multiple pulmonary nodules and underlying head and neck cancer.

We describe a 66-year-old woman with recently diagnosed cT2N0 mouth cancer and multiple hypo-dense pulmonary nodules discovered on a computed tomographic chest scan. These nodules were located in the anterior part of the right upper and middle lobe and were resected thoracoscopically. Histologic examination of these nodules revealed a lipoid pneumonia. Exogenous lipoid pneumonia is a rare but described pulmonary disease that typically presents as consolidations. An exclusive presentation such as multiple pulmonary nodules is very unusual.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma presenting as multiple cavitating pulmonary nodules.

Intrathoracic involvement is common in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). We present the case of a young woman with a secondary pulmonary lymphoma (SPL) of the centroblastic subtype, with B-cell characteristics. The chest radiograph at presentation revealed an extremely rare pattern of multiple cavitating pulmonary nodules. The radiographic patterns of intrathoracic NHL are discussed.

Formation of multiple pulmonary nodules during treatment with leflunomide.

Pulmonary involvement is one of the extra-articular manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis and can be due to the disease itself or secondary to the medications used in order to treat it. We report the case of a 60-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and developed multiple pulmonary nodules during treatment with leflunomide.

Multiple pulmonary nodules: a complex case of Wegener's granulomatosis.

Wegener's granulomatosis is a granulomatous vasculitis that can present with a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations. This disease entity predominantly affects the respiratory tract and the kidneys. Two forms of Wegener's granulomatosis have been recognized: systemic and limited. It has not been established if the two forms represent separate disease entities or different stages of the same condition. In the limited form of Wegener's granulomatosis there is no immediate threat to the function of vital organs and there is no evidence of glomerulonephritis. Environmental factors that could se

A 40-year-old woman with multiple pulmonary nodules. Pulmonary hyalinizing granuloma.

A 40-year-old woman (a nonsmoker) with history of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and a platelet count > 90,000 cells/μL without specific medication was referred to pulmonary clinic for evaluation of multiple pulmonary nodules. The patient presented to an outside hospital with fatigue, lack of energy, and dyspnea on exertion for 2 years. She denied fever, cough, chest pain, or weight loss. An initial chest radiograph showed bilateral multiple pulmonary nodules. A chest CT scan revealed multiple nodular lesions, varying in size, in all lobes of both lungs. There was no mediastinal lympha

[A case of secondary pulmonary malignant lymphoma with multiple pulmonary nodules and spiculation].

A 72-year-old man presented to our hospital with fatigue and anemia. Chest CT showed multiple nodular shadows. We first suspected lung cancer and multiple metastatic lesions because some nodules had spiculation. However, PET-CT revealed the small intestine, thyroid and rib as well as these nodules to be positive for FDG uptake, suggesting malignant lymphoma and lung involvement. For diagnosis, lung biopsy by video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) was performed. Pathologic examination of the lung biopsy specimen showed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. We diagnosed secondary pulmonary malignant ly

[Multiple pulmonary nodules in an electric welder with recurrent fever].

This article reported a 33-year-old male electric welder with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) who presented with recurrent fever. Laboratory tests revealed anemia, thrombocytopenia, elevated inflammatory markers, and positive blood cultures. Chest imaging examinations showed diffuse miliary nodules in both lungs, enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes, and recurrent new patchy shadows in the lungs. Antibacterial treatment was ineffective. Through video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery and pathology, the patient was diagnosed with pulmonary iron dust deposition, lipoid pneumonia, pulmonary alveolar prot

Microwave ablation after VATS in patients with multiple pulmonary nodules.

BACKGROUND: The management of residual nodules after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for multiple pulmonary nodules (MPNs) is challenging. Microwave ablation (MWA), which is highly repeatable and minimally invasive, has garnered widespread attention in the treatment of MPNs. METHODS: Ninety-one patients with MPNs who underwent VATS for resection of high-risk nodules followed by MWA for residual nodules were examined. Clinical efficacy and complications were assessed. The primary end points were MWA success rate and complete ablation rate. Secondary end points were local progressio

Q fever represented as multiple pulmonary nodules: a case report.

Q fever is an important zoonotic disease caused by the pathogen Coxiella burnetii, which is inhaled into the body through the respiratory tract leading to acute symptoms. Severe acute Q fever may result in complications, such as pneumonia, hepatitis, or myocarditis, and some patients may develop chronic Q fever after incomplete treatment. Local persistent C. burnetii infection may lead to chronic Q fever that often requires surgery and anti-infection treatment for several years, seriously endangering patient health and increasing the economic burden for families. The clinicians' lack of awaren

Seasonal Influenza Vaccine-induced Pneumonitis Presenting with Multiple Pulmonary Nodules.

A 39-year-old woman received a seasonal influenza vaccine in November 2015 and subsequently experienced malaise, low-grade fever, and chest discomfort. A chest X-ray performed 2 weeks after vaccination showed multiple nodular shadows in both lungs and ground-glass shadows in both lower lung fields. Her bronchoalveolar lavage fluid contained an unusually high number of lymphocytes, and a drug-induced lymphocyte stimulation test for seasonal influenza vaccine was positive. Transbronchial lung biopsy revealed the presence of granulomatous inflammation. Thereafter her abnormal chest shadow spontan

Invasive Aspergillosis Masquerading as Multiple Pulmonary Nodules: A Challenging Diagnosis.

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is an aggressive fungal infection of the lungs characterized by tissue invasion by fungal hyphal elements. The definitive diagnosis is challenging because it relies on histopathological demonstration of fungal elements, and these days clinicians are relying more on bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) cultures and serum biomarkers (galactomannan and beta-D-glucan). We would like to emphasize through our case the necessity to keep a high index of suspicion for IPA despite negative cultures and serum biomarkers in immunosuppressed patients and consider surgical bio

Modified hook-wire placement technique for localizing multiple pulmonary nodules.

BACKGROUND: The localization of multiple pulmonary nodules is challenging due to a high incidence of pneumothorax after each needle insertion into lung parenchyma. The aim of the current study is to verify the safety and effectiveness of a modified technique utilizing simultaneous Hookwire placement to localize multiple lesions. METHODS: The proposed method comprises a row of metal wires, perpendicular insertion, simultaneous release of Hookwire, and a lateral position to modify a conventional localizing technique. From January 2015 to August 2016, 23 patients were subjected to the modified t

Multiple Pulmonary Nodules in an Immunocompetent Adolescent with Infectious Mononucleosis.

BACKGROUND: Infectious mononucleosis is usually a self-limiting illness, but can be rarely associated with complications. CASE CHARACTERISTICS: A 17-year-old boy with Epstein-Barr virus related infectious mononucleosis and cold antibody-mediated autoimmune hemolytic anemia with incidentally noted multiple pulmonary nodules. OBSERVATIONS: Nodules regressed over the next few weeks without specific therapy. MESSAGE: Pediatricians need to be aware of this rare clinical presentation of infectious mononucleosis so that further invasive testing can be avoided.

Multiple cavitating pulmonary nodules: rare manifestation of benign metastatic leiomyoma.

Benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML) is a rare disease of pathologically benign, but the tumor metastasizes to other organs. The most common organ involved in BML is lung. Pulmonary involvement usually manifested as multiple nodules on chest X-ray, however we experienced an interesting case of a 52-year-old premenopausal woman who presented with multiple bilateral lung cavitations and nodules on a chest X-ray without any respiratory symptoms. Chest computed-tomography identified multiple cavitary lesions of 5-12 mm in diameter and well-defined nodules of 5-10 mm in diameter in both lung fields

An uncommon cause of multiple pulmonary nodules; hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia.

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), or Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome (ROWS) is a very rare hereditary disease. The diagnosis is based on the clinical findings such as recurrent epistaxis, telangiectases, visceral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and family history. AVMs are found in the liver, lung or brain and could mimick the masses of these organs. Radiologic evaluation plays a critical role during diagnostic and therapeutic management of ROWS. Hence, radiologists should be aware of the diagnosis of HHT in the patients with AVMs, history of epistaxis and family history. We report a
