A 72-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with 3 months of vision loss and 1 month of aggravation. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging examinations revealed a tumor in the sphenoid region, which was treated with surgical resection. Based on the pathology and immunohistochemistry findings, the tumor was diagnosed as a myoepithelial tumor. The patient was in good condition after surgery. Myoepithelial tumors are rare, with an even rarer occurrence in the sphenoid sinuses, where such tumors are particularly challenging to diagnose preoperatively. Diagnosis relies on postopera

Myoepitheliomas account for approximately 1.5% of all salivary gland tumors and arise most frequently from the parotid gland. Recently, a new myoepithelioma variant, called mucinous myoepithelioma, has attracted widespread attention. These tumors are recognized as a unique subtype of myoepithelioma, characterized by the presence of abundant mucin. We herein report the findings of an 86-year-old Japanese woman who presented with a hard mass of the right parotid gland behind her right ear which was gradually increasing in size. The patient had undergone a fine-needle aspiration biopsy 4 years ea

Myoepithelioma is an uncommon benign tumor that most likely occurs in the salivary gland. Extra-salivary myoepithelioma are sporadic and rare, especially the quantities occur in the sinonasal cavity are fewer in related literature reported. In this paper, we present a rare case of benign myoepithelioma that occurred in the nasal cavity, and the related process of pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis are discussed.

Myoepithelioma is an uncommon tumor of the myoepithelial cells that is considered to represent a distinct category of tumor by the World Health Organization. It accounts for less than 1% of all tumors that develop in the salivary glands. We describe the case of a 35-year-old woman who presented to us with a painless swelling on the right side of her face. She was diagnosed with a parotid gland cyst by ultrasonography and computed tomography. Following excision of the mass, however, the pathology report identified the tumor as a solid myoepithelioma. To the best of our knowledge, this is the fi

Myoepithelioma is a rare salivary tumour which is usually encountered in the parotid gland. Outside the parotid, myoepithelioma may arise from minor salivary glands of the hard palate and less frequently in bronchi or breast. In this report we describe the unique case of a metachronous bilateral nasopharyngeal myoepithelioma arising from the tubaric regions. Its microscopic features, immunophenotype, and the differential diagnosis together with a review of literature are discussed.

BACKGROUND: A case of malignant myoepithelioma in the lacrimal gland is reported.
CASE: The patient, a 77-year-old male with increasing proptosis in the left eye was referred to us. Steroid therapy was not effective, therefore lateral orbitotomy was performed.
RESULT: On pathological examination, the proper structure of actini was normal, but the cord of actini revealed the destruction layer tapering into the surrounding area. The tumor was composed of sarcomatoid changes with spindle-shaped cells, collagen fibers, and myxoid pattern. immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for epit

Minor salivary gland neoplasms with mesenchymal-like features are uncommon in the sinonasal tract. We herein report a case of spindle cell myoepithelioma of the nasal cavity in a 69-year-old woman who presented with a rapidly expanding tumor accompanied by episodes of epistaxis. Although initially considered as a mesenchymal neoplasm, ultrastructural and immunophenotypical characterization demonstrated its myoepithelial nature. In the sinonasal setting, this unusual neoplasm may be confused with soft tissue tumors showing spindle cell or myxoid features. Staining for cytokeratin is found to be

Salivary gland tumors that display myoepithelial differentiation exclusively or predominantly are relatively uncommon, and the assessment of malignancy in a myoepithelial tumor can be difficult. We report a case of parotid gland myoepithelioma composed predominantly of spindle cells with focal capsular invasion. The patient was a 65-year-old woman who presented with a painless mass in the right preauricular region. Histologically, the tumor had a solid and multinodular growth pattern and was predominantly made up of spindle cells with a minor component of epithelioid cells with moderate cellul

Background and Clinical Significance: Palatal swellings may originate from various pathological disorders. These swellings may include congenital or acquired factors. The posterior hard palate, which contains many minor salivary glands, is a common site for such swellings. Case Presentation: We present a rare case of intraoral palatal myoepithelioma in a 45-year-old Egyptian male with a significant history of smoking. Detailed clinical, radiographic, and operative findings are discussed alongside histopathological evaluation, surgical management, and postoperative outcomes. This case highlight

BACKGROUND: Myoepitheliomas are uncommon salivary gland neoplasms consisting entirely or predominantly of cells with myoepithelial phenotype. They commonly involve the parotid gland and the minor salivary glands of the palate.
AIM: A case of plasmacytoid myoepithelioma of the hard palate is described.
CASE DESCRIPTION AND RESULTS: A 55-year-old woman presented to her oral surgeon with a tumor on the hard palate. Microscopic examination showed a well-circumscribed but non-encapsulated tumor, consisting mostly of plasmacytoid cells in a loose fibrovascular stroma. Neoplastic myoepithelial cell

Myoepithelioma is an uncommon benign neoplasm that most likely occurs in the parotid gland. Extra-salivary myoepitheliomas are rare, with less than 10 cases reported in the sinonasal cavity. We present a rare case of benign myoepithelioma with recurrent behavior, abundant extensions to adjacent structures, and resistant to treat clinical course, which influenced the patient's quality of life for more than 18 years. Histologic, immunohistochemical, and the potential differential diagnoses are discussed. The patient refused to undertake any more treatments, but after 15 months of follow-up, the

The nuclear DNA content and morphologic data of 30 surgical samples (eight normal parotid gland, 12 myoepithelioma, and 10 myoepithelial carcinoma) were analyzed by the IBAS II analysis system. The results suggest that there are relationships between tumor ploidy distribution and prognosis, and that correct pathologic diagnosis can be obtained by the IBAS image system.

Myoepithelioma is an extremely rare benign tumor of the salivary glands that poses a diagnostic challenge because its clinical, radiologic, and cytopathologic characteristics may resemble those of several other salivary gland tumors. Accessory parotid myoepithelioma is even rarer. A 24-year-old female patient presented with a five-year history of a gradually increasing, painless swelling in the right mid-cheek region. Clinical examination revealed a firm, well-demarcated, nontender swelling in the right mid-cheek region without evidence of facial nerve involvement. Ultrasonographic evaluation

A 15-year-old girl presented with a mobile lesion with yellowish hue on the posterior lamella of the right lower eyelid adjacent to the punctum. Four years prior, a lesion thought to be a chalazion was excised from the same location. There was subsequent progressive painless enlargement. The patient ultimately underwent an internal excision of the mass. Histopathology demonstrated infiltrative nests and cords of epithelioid and plasmacytoid cells with abundant eosinophilic myxoid-collagenous stroma along with focal infiltration of skeletal muscle with immunohistochemical staining consistent wi

Malignant myoepithelioma is an extremely rare tumor of the salivary glands. Myoepitheliomas make up less than 1% of all salivary gland tumors. We report of a case of malignant myoepithelioma of the upper jaw in a 55-year old man. The tumor primarily arose from the maxillary sinus and secondarily involved the palate. A diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma was interpreted, following fine needle aspiration cytology and spindle cell tumor, following incision biopsy with a dilemma. The surgery consisted of subtotal maxillectomy preserving the infra orbital rim and posterior wall of the maxillary sinus,

Myoepitheliomas of the parotid glands are very rare in the pediatric population. Only a few cases of myoepitheliomas of the salivary glands have been reported in children. They have some similar features with pleomorphic adenoma. However, they may be malignant and infiltrate locally. Hence, histopathologic examination should be considered to differentiate these tumors. The treatment of myoepitheliomas is complete removal of the tumor. We report a child with myoepithelioma of the parotid gland and review the related literature.

Cutaneous syncytial myoepithelioma (CSM) is a recently recognized, histopathological variant of myoepithelial (ME) tumors of the skin. It is characterized by a syncytial arrangement of spindled, ovoid, and/or epithelioid cells forming a well-circumscribed, unencapsulated dermal nodule. There is a paucity of intervening stroma, and absent duct or gland formation. Strong immunohistochemical staining for S100 and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) has been described, while cytokeratin expression has been uncommon. The majority of CSMs harbor a rearrangement involving the EWSR1 gene. Although vario
