A rare case of giant myopericytoma of the lower limb: a case report and review of the literature.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Myopericytoma (MPC) is a rare soft tissue tumor that typically occurs in the extremities or distal limbs. These tumors are usually slow-growing, painless, and measure <2 cm on average. While generally benign, they can lead to complications if misdiagnosed. Surgical excision is the definitive treatment. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 15-year-old female from southern China presented with a painless mass in her right thigh, which had persisted for three years. Imaging revealed a mass measuring approximately 8.5 cm, initially suspected to be a synovial sarcoma. Magnetic reso

A retroperitoneal myopericytoma: The first case located at the retroperitoneal area and not originate from the kidneys.

A 25-year-old woman had a mass of approximately 65 cm × 33 cm × 102 cm, located in the left paraaortic area on CT scan. It was diagnosed as retroperitoneal malignant neoplasm on imaging. Afterward, open retroperitoneal tumor excision was performed. At laparotomy, the mass was carefully dissected from the ureter, renal artery, and aorta and excised as en-bloc. The pathological result was "myopericytoma." Histologically, the pathological findings characterized a pericytic neoplasm characterized by a perivascular growth of myoid tumor cells. In addition, there were uniform, oval-shaped cells with

Primary malignant myopericytoma with cancer cachexia: Report of the first case and review of literature.

RATIONALE: Malignant myopericytoma is extremely rare, with a few cases described in the English literature. PATIENT CONCERNS: This novel study aimed to report a case of malignant myopericytoma with cancer cachexia arising in the left armpit. Also, it presented a review of the English literature regarding primary malignant myopericytoma, aiming to clarify the clinical features and potentially curative treatment. A 56-year-old male presented with an ulcerated and smelly mass involving her left armpit. The patient had obvious symptoms of cancer cachexia, including emaciation, anemia, and lower e

Recurrent Myopericytoma of the Breast Mimicking Phyllodes Tumour: A Diagnostic and Management Challenge.

BackgroundMyopericytoma is a rare perivascular neoplasm typically found in the extremities, with only a single previous case report in breast.Case PresentationWe describe a 37-year-old woman presenting with a recurrent left breast mass, initially suspected to be a phyllodes tumour based on clinical and radiological features. Histologic examination revealed a spindle cell neoplasm with concentric perivascular growth, focal necrosis, brisk mitotic activity, and tumour infiltration into the adjacent breast. Immunohistochemistry confirmed positivity for smooth muscle actin and vimentin with a Ki-6

Myopericytoma of the Parotid and Molecular Profiling: Report of a Rare Case and Review of the Literature.

Myopericytomas are uncommon tumors defined by their round to spindle shaped cells often arranged in a concentric pattern of perivascular growth. They are typically well-circumscribed, nodular, slow-growing lesions that occur in the soft tissue of the extremities. Here, we present a 30-year-old female with a 2.4 cm myopericytoma occurring in the deep lobe of the parotid gland. The diagnosis was made with detailed histopathologic and immunohistochemical findings and positive identification of the specific mutation for PDGFRβ p.Asp666Lys by next generation sequencing (NGS). This is the first case

Clinico-pathological features of gynecological myopericytoma: a challenging diagnosis in an exceptional location.

Myopericytomas (MPC) are rare mesenchymal tumors, originating from the perivascular myoid cells. They predominantly occur in the skin and superficial soft tissues of the extremities, while visceral involvement is rare. Histological features and clinical course are usually benign. To the best of our knowledge, MPC is still an uncharacterized tumor entity of the female internal genital tract. We describe three MPC cases involving the female internal genital tract: (1) a uterine wall MPC arising in a 49-year-old woman with progressive pelvic/abdominal pain; (2) a cervix MPC of a 49-year-old woman

Myopericytoma at the Craniocervical Junction: Clinicopathological Report and Review of a Rare Perivascular Neoplasm.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Myopericytoma is an emerging class of neoplasm originating from the perivascular myoid cellular environment, previously classified as a variant of hemangiopericytoma. Most reported myopericytomas are found in soft tissues of the extremities; however, infrequent cases are described involving the central nervous system. Intracranial myopericytoma remains rare. Here, we describe the first report of myopericytoma occurring at the cervicomedullary junction in close proximity to the vertebral artery, mimicking a vascular lesion. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 64-yr-old woman pr

Intranasal myopericytoma. A tumour with perivascular myoid differentiation: the changing nomenclature for haemangiopericytoma.

We present a case report of a patient who developed a sinonasal myopericytoma treated by surgical excision through a lateral rhinotomy. Some aggressive features on pre-operative computed tomography scanning and the complexity of recent changes in the histological nomenclature for these tumours led to consideration of adjuvant therapy. The close histological relationship between myopericytoma, myofibromatosis, solitary myofibroma and infantile haemangiopericytoma is discussed. This group of lesions constitute a single morphological spectrum with differentiation towards perivascular myoid cells

Myopericytoma of skin and soft tissues: clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical study of 54 cases.

Perivascular neoplasms comprise traditionally glomus tumor and hemangiopericytoma (HPC). Whereas glomus tumor represents a well-defined entity, the existence of HPC as a separate entity has been questioned because a number of neoplasms of different lines of differentiation are characterized by a HPC-like vascular growth pattern. Myopericytoma represents a recently delineated entity showing a HPC-like vascular pattern. A large series of myopericytoma of skin and soft tissues has been analyzed to further characterize the clinicopathologic spectrum of this entity. Fifty-four cases of myopericytom

Head and Neck Myopericytoma (MPC): A Case Report of Double Synchronous Sinonasal MPC.

AIM: Myopericytoma (MPC) is a rare tumour characterized by a perivascular proliferation of pericytic cells with myoid differentiation and a typical spindle shape. Except for the rare malignant cases, MPC mostly shows a benign course. Symptoms are often non-specific, and the diagnosis could be accidental. Simple biopsies are often non-diagnostic and do not provide any information about the benign or malignant course of the disease. General agreement for its management is lacking. CASE PRESENTATION: An old patient was referred to our tertiary cancer centre for left nasal obstruction for the pre

CyberKnife radiation therapy for malignant myopericytoma in a pediatric patient: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Malignant myopericytoma is a very rare malignant soft tissue tumor which usually develops during adulthood. It has a very poor prognosis due to its aggressive nature and frequent distant metastases. METHODS: In our case report, we present a 17-month-old girl with malignant myopericytoma who was successfully treated using CyberKnife (Accuray; Sunnyvale, CA, USA) stereotactic radiotherapy. RESULTS: A rare localization of the tumor caused significant challenges during the course of treatment. Radical surgical resection was not achievable due to the tumor's location in the inner ear;

Myopericytoma of the thoracic spine in a pregnant woman: a case report on the management of a rare neoplasm.

Myopericytomas are perivascular myoid neoplasms that rarely exhibit malignant characteristics. They usually arise in the dermis or subcutaneous tissue and exceptionally involve deep soft tissues, with spinal localization being rare. We report the case of a previously healthy 32-year-old pregnant woman who presented with pain in the interscapular region and progressive loss of lower limb strength. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a solid neoplastic mass at the T3 level, with spinal canal invasion and spinal cord signal abnormalities. The pregnancy was terminated, followed by lesion embolizat

[Tumor-induced osteomalacia caused by an FGF23-secreting myopericytoma : Case report and literature review].

BACKGROUND: The symptoms of muscle weakness, bone pain and fragility fractures can be an indication of osteomalacia. Phosphate is often not considered within osteologic parameters, decreased levels are therefore easily overseen. The additional test for fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) as indicator for tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is still largely unfamiliar. OBJECTIVE: By emphasizing the role of phosphate and furthermore FGF23 in bone metabolism illustrated by the long-term disease process of our clinical case we would like to introduce these parameters to a broader public. METHODS: W

Imaging features of myopericytoma arising from the parotid gland: Report of 2 cases and literature review.

RATIONALE: Myopericytoma of the parotid gland is a rare condition of which preoperative definitive diagnosis is relatively challenging. The purpose of this case report is to highlight the radiologic features of myopericytoma of parotid gland. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 62-year-old man presented with a history of a walnut-size mass in left parotid gland when yawned for half-month, and a 48-year-old woman complaint about a grape-size, painless mass behind the right ear for a month. DIAGNOSES: Radiological examinations suggested that both lesions were cyst-solid mixed lesions with relatively smoothed

Recurrent Somatic PDGFRB Mutations in Sporadic Infantile/Solitary Adult Myofibromas But Not in Angioleiomyomas and Myopericytomas.

Infantile myofibroma (MF) is an uncommon benign myofibroblastic tumor of infancy and childhood. Solitary adult MF shares similar features with infantile MF. The lesions occur in 3 clinicopathologic settings: solitary, multicentric, and generalized and can be either sporadic or familial. Traditionally, infantile MF has been included in the spectrum of infantile hemangiopericytoma. The recent World Health Organization classification listed MF, angioleiomyoma, and myopericytoma under the general heading of perivascular tumors in the sense of a morphologic spectrum of perivascular myoid cell neopl

Spontaneous deep vein thrombosis of the upper arm due to an intravascular myopericytoma: A case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Intravascular myopericytomas are a rare type of myopericytomas. In most previously reported cases, these were benign, occurred on the legs or neck, and had low recurrence rates. We have described a unique case of an intravascular myopericytoma that caused spontaneous deep vein thrombosis. MAIN SYMPTOMS, IMPORTANT CLINICAL FINDINGS, AND MAIN DIAGNOSES: A 37-year-old man presented with sudden-onset pain and swelling in the upper arm; physical examination revealed a 10 cm, palpable, firm, and mobile lesion in the upper arm. A biopsy revealed intravascular myopericytoma; immunohisto

miRNA expression profiling divides follicular dendritic cell sarcomas into two groups, related to fibroblasts and myopericytomas or Castleman's disease.

Follicular dendritic cell (FDC) sarcomas are rare mesenchymal tumours, which are fatal in 20% of the patients and usually occur in secondary lymphoid organs or extranodal localizations. Due to the rareness of these tumours, only few studies have been conducted on molecular level. In the present study, we performed microRNA (miRNA) profiling of 31 FDC sarcomas and identified two subgroups, one with high miRNA expression and the other group with low miRNA expression levels. The first group showed a strong similarity to fibroblasts and myopericytomas, whereas the second group was more closely rel

Primary malignant myopericytoma of the left atrium--a tumor of aggressive biological behavior: report of the first case and review of literature.

We report a case of malignant myopericytoma arising in the left atrium with brain, skeletal, and liver metastases, which, to our knowledge, is the first report of this rare entity in this anatomic location. A 52-year-old man presented with progressive blackening of his left field of vision. Magnetic resonance imaging and a computed tomography scan of the brain and thorax showed a heterogeneous mass in the right occipital lobe and a large left atrial floor mass. Excision of the atrial mass showed a circumscribed but unencapsulated malignant spindled neoplasm with a perivascular concentric cellu

Benign perivascular myoid cell tumor (myopericytoma) of the urinary tract: a report of 2 cases with an emphasis on differential diagnosis.

Myopericytoma is a benign mesenchymal neoplasm thought to comprise part of a spectrum of perivascular myoid cell neoplasms with myofibroma, angioleiomyoma, and glomus tumor. We describe 2 such neoplasms involving the urinary tract: 1 incidentally identified in the kidney of a 59-year-old woman and 1 in the urinary bladder of a 52-year-old woman who presented with urinary frequency and dysuria. Histologically, the bladder tumor was composed of numerous blood vessels surrounded by plump perivascular myoid cells, as in subcutaneous myopericytoma. The renal tumor showed similar morphology centrall
