Filler-Dominated Polymer Nanocomposites: Molecular Transport in Extended Nanocavities.

A deeper understanding of the molecular transport mechanisms in filler-dominated nanocomposites is a necessary step toward the development of innovative molecular separation membranes. Nanocomposite membranes were prepared with gas-impermeable Cellulose Nanocrystals (CNCs) at ∼80 wt % content and polyethylene glycol (PEG). Molecular transport takes place according to a configurational diffusion mechanism through extended nanocavities having a cross-sectional size of ∼0.52 nm between packed CNCs. The CO2 solubility-selectivity is favored by physical interaction with the ethylene oxide groups of

Nanocomposites to Overcoming Sorafenib Resistance in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Therapy.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is associated with a diverse range of lymphomas. EBV-specific T-cell (EBVST) infusions have shown promise in safety and clinical effectiveness in treating EBV-associated lymphomas; however, not all patients respond to T-cell immunotherapies. To identify EBV antigen-specific antibody responses associated with clinical outcomes, we comprehensively characterized antibody responses to the complete EBV proteome using a custom protein microarray in 56 patients with EBV-associated lymphoma who received EBVST infusions in phase 1 clinical trials. Responders (nonprogressors) an

Mechanical Biomimetic Nanocomposites for Multidimensional Treatment of Arterial Thrombosis.

Arterial thrombosis is a severe cardiovascular condition associated with high mortality and disability rates. Traditional pharmacological thrombolytic therapies, however, are limited by a narrow therapeutic window, short drug half-lives, restricted therapeutic effectiveness, and the risk of hemorrhagic complications. Moreover, the unique biological microenvironment of arterial thrombosis is characterized by high shear stress and an inflammatory milieu rich in reactive oxygen species (ROS), resulting in a relatively high recurrence rate. To address these challenges, a mechanical biomimetic nano

Thermoelectric Performance of Surface-Engineered Cu1.5-xTe-Cu2Se Nanocomposites.

Cu2-xS and Cu2-xSe have recently been reported as promising thermoelectric (TE) materials for medium-temperature applications. In contrast, Cu2-xTe, another member of the copper chalcogenide family, typically exhibits low Seebeck coefficients that limit its potential to achieve a superior thermoelectric figure of merit, zT, particularly in the low-temperature range where this material could be effective. To address this, we investigated the TE performance of Cu1.5-xTe-Cu2Se nanocomposites by consolidating surface-engineered Cu1.5Te nanocrystals. This surface engineering strategy allows for pre

Photocatalytic degradation of gaseous benzene using metal oxide nanocomposites.

Rapid industrial growth has been accompanied by the pollution of hazardous volatile organic pollutants (VOCs) in air. Among various options available for the treatment of VOCs, the use of metal oxide composites as photocatalysts has been adopted preferably due to their potential to induce the synergistic interactions between the metal nanoparticles (NPs) and metal oxides (especially titanium dioxide (TiO2)). In this context, an in-depth review is offered to describe the fundamental mechanism of metal oxide-based photocatalysis for the oxidation of gaseous benzene as a model VOC. The discussion

Synthesis and antimicrobial properties of Zn-mineralized alginate nanocomposites.

New bioactive and antimicrobial biomaterials were produced by alginate-mediated biomineralization with Zn-mineral phase. The synthesis procedure is simple, cost-effective and resulted in two different Zn-mineralized alginate nanocomposites, Zn-carbonate/Zn-alginate and Zn-phosphate/Zn-alginate. The presence of Zn-mineral phase and its type, have significantly affected nanocomposite morphology, stability, total metallic loading and potential to release Zn(II) in physiological environment. Antimicrobial experiments showed that both types of Zn-mineralized nanocomposites exhibit strong antimicrob

Fabrication of glutathione photoelectrochemical biosensor using graphene-CdS nanocomposites.

A novel glutathione (GSH) photoelectrochemical biosensor was fabricated using the newly synthesized graphene-CdS (GR-CdS) nanocomposites. The GR-CdS nanocomposites were prepared by a fast, one-step, aqueous reaction. The as-prepared GR-CdS structure inherited the excellent electron transport of GR and facilitated the spatial separation of photo-generated charge carrier, therefore resulting in the enhanced photocurrent, and making it a promising candidate for developing photoelectrochemical biosensors. The proposed GSH sensor displays satisfactory analytical performance with an acceptable linea

Physicochemical properties and sensing ability of metallophthalocyanines/chitosan nanocomposites.

Electroactive nanostructured films of chitosan (Ch) and tetrasulfonated metallophthalocyanines containing nickel (NiTsPc), copper (CuTsPc), and iron (FeTsPc) were produced via the electrostatic layer-by-layer (LbL) technique. The multilayer formation was monitored with UV-vis spectroscopy by measuring the increase of the Q-band absorption from metallophthalocyanines. Results from transmission and reflection infrared spectroscopy suggested specific interactions between SO(3)(-) groups from metallophthalocyanines and NH(3)(+) from chitosan. The electroactive multilayered films assembled onto an

Phase Engineering of WO3 Nanoparticles Towards Efficient Photochromic Nanocomposites.

Tungsten oxide (WO3) is an attractive phase-sensitive chromogenic material whose photoinduced optical response produces reversible coloration of interest light responsive optical devices. Here, WO3 nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized via a simple surfactant-free sol-gel precipitation route by systematically varying acid content and reaction temperature then characterized to establish a correlation among synthesis conditions, crystalline phase morphology and photochromic response. Morphological, structural and optical characterizations show that by gradually heating the precursors at 90 °C and

Collision-based synthesis of diamond-graphite nanocomposites: computational investigation.

Diamond-graphite nanocomposites have attracted significant attention due to their unusual structure, combining graphitic and diamond domains within a single material, as well as their promising electronic and mechanical properties. However, existing synthesis routes typically rely on poorly controlled high-pressure, high-temperature phase transitions, limiting the ability to "tune" the relative proportions of graphite and diamond. Here, we explored an alternative strategy that avoids bulk phase transformations and instead targets the formation of interfaces between pre-existing graphite and di

NiO/ZnO Nanocomposites for Multimodal Intelligent MEMS Gas Sensors.

Gas sensor arrays designed for pattern recognition face persistent challenges in achieving high sensitivity and selectivity for multiple volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particularly under varying environmental conditions. To address these limitations, we developed multimodal intelligent MEMS gas sensors by precisely tailoring the nanocomposite ratio of NiO and ZnO components. These sensors demonstrate enhanced responses to ethylene glycol (EG) and limonene (LM) at different operating temperatures, demonstrating material-specific selectivity. Additionally, a multitask deep learning model is

Organic‒Inorganic Multiscale Crosslinking Assembly for Ultrahigh-Toughness Nanocomposites.

Strength and toughness have traditionally been regarded as mutually exclusive, but simultaneously achieving both high strength and high toughness in organic‒inorganic nanocomposites remains a significant challenge. Inspired by natural nacre and bone, inorganic ionic oligomers and organic molecular chains are employed to achieve multiscale crosslinking assembly, advancing from the ionic-molecular level to nanolines, nanorods, nanofibers, microfibers, and ultimately to nanocomposite films and bulk nanocomposite materials. This process results in a highly integrated organic‒inorganic hierarchical
