Septal fracture in simple nasal bone fracture.

Nasal bone fractures are the most common type of facial fractures. Previous studies have shown that most nasal fractures involve the septum, which can provide an obstacle to the successful reduction of nasal bone fractures. In particular, septal fractures in combination with simple nasal bone fractures are usually unrecognized and untreated at the time of injury. Furthermore, systemized treatment protocols and diagnostic tools for septal fractures in the case of simple nasal bone fracture have not previously been presented. In this study, the clinical findings of septal fractures in cases of s

Nasal bone grafting using split skull grafts.

The nose has been reconstructed with bone grafts, cartilage, and silicone. Each of these methods has disadvantages, but the bone graft is most trouble free. It is possible to take a split skull graft with a high speed drill and an osteotome. The position of the graft site on the skull determines its shape. This can be tailored to the desired nasal contour. Several grafts may be used to build up the nasal dorsum further. This method has been used in patients suffering from acute trauma and deformities resulting from previous trauma, rhinoplasty, congenital anomalies, and after cancer resection.

Clinical factors indicating short nasal bone overlap.

CONCLUSION: It is important to take adequate precautions when performing septoplasty for elderly patients. OBJECTIVE: Septoplasty is the treatment of choice for deviation of the nasal septum. Saddle nose is a rare complication caused by damage to the keystone area. In this area, the nasal bone overlaps the upper lateral cartilages, so careful attention is needed when performing septoplasty to patients with short nasal bone overlap. Therefore, the factors associated with short nasal bone overlap were investigated to allow adequate precautions to be taken during surgery. METHOD: Computed tomog

Nasal bone fracture--ultrasonography or computed tomography?

AIM: The aim of the study is to estimate the diagnostic sensitivity and utility of high-resolution ultrasonography (HRUS) in comparison with a gold standard technique in the diagnosis of the nasal fracture. PATIENTS AND METHOD: Using a retrospective study design, facial Computed Tomography (CT) and HRUS examinations were performed on 87 consecutive patients with nasal trauma. Ultrasonograms were obtained with a high frequency linear transducer (10 MHz). All patients also underwent facial conventional radiography (CR). The sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of nasal fracture was evaluat

A new approach to the treatment of nasal bone fracture: radiologic classification of nasal bone fractures and its clinical application.

PURPOSE: A radiologic examination is required in the treatment of nasal bone fracture to determine the fracture condition. Thus, there is an increasing need for radiologic classification of nasal bone fractures that can be applied to clinical practice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Computed tomography was performed in 125 patients with nasal bone fractures to determine which axial view best showed the entire nasal view. The obtained axial view was then used as a reference for classification. The length from the top to the base of the nasal bone was divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, after

Study of Incidence and Location of Nasal Foramen in Nasal Bone of Adult Dry Skulls.

The nasal bones are miniature, quadrangular, and symmetrical bones occurring in pairs. Substantial literature describes nasal bone like single nasal bone, absent and hypoplastic nasal bones. But there is very scanty literature elucidating number and its incidence along with its location of nasal foramen from various landmarks. Hence the study was conducted. The aim of the study is to describe incidence, number and associated clinical significance of nasal foramen located on nasal bones. The study was conducted in the Department of Anatomy using 76 skulls with 76 right and 76 left nasal bones.

Relationship between the degree and direction of nasal septum deviation and nasal bone morphology.

BACKGROUND: Nasal septal deviation may affect nasal bone growth and facial morphology. Knowledge of nasal morphologic parameters may plays an important role in planning successful rhinoplasty and septoplasty operation. The aim of our study was to evaluate the relationship between the direction and degree of nasal septal deviation with nasal bone morphology, along with factors such as age and gender. METHODS: Maxillofacial computed tomography (CT) of 250 patients with nasal septal deviation was analyzed retrospectively in this study. We excluded patients with factors that could affect their na

Bone remodeling after conservative treatment of nasal bone fracture in pediatric patients.

BACKGROUND: The standard treatment of nasal bone fractures in pediatric patients is closed reduction. Conservative treatment is sometimes performed, but poses a risk of nasal deformity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of bone remodeling in pediatric nasal fractures. METHODS: Information was extracted from the medical records of patients under 12 years of age who received conservative treatment for a nasal bone fracture and underwent follow-up computed tomography (CT) examinations. The initial fracture and its outcomes over time were graded as excellent, good, or fair accord

Bone-forming capacity of adult human nasal chondrocytes.

Nasal chondrocytes (NC) derive from the same multipotent embryological segment that gives rise to the majority of the maxillofacial bone and have been reported to differentiate into osteoblast-like cells in vitro. In this study, we assessed the capacity of adult human NC, appropriately primed towards hypertrophic or osteoblastic differentiation, to form bone tissue in vivo. Hypertrophic induction of NC-based micromass pellets formed mineralized cartilaginous tissues rich in type X collagen, but upon implantation into subcutaneous pockets of nude mice remained avascular and reverted to stable h
