Focal dermal hypoplasia (FDH, Goltz syndrome), is an X-linked dominant mesoectodermal developmental disorder, involving skin, skeleton, eyes, teeth, and other organs. Mutations in PORCN, which stimulates the secretion of wingless family signal proteins, are found in FDH patients. A female fetus presented at 34 weeks gestation with interuterine growth restriction (IUGR), asymmetry, limb anomalies, microphthalmia, and lung anomaly. Focal dermal hypoplasia was confirmed at birth, with hypoplastic areas of skin, malformation of the limbs, diaphragmatic hernia, and ocular anomalies. Mutation analys

Hyper IgE syndrome (HIES) is a rare immunodeficiency syndrome characterized by a triad of cutaneous abscesses, mostly caused by Staphylococus aureus; pneumonia; and raised IgE levels. Nonimmunological associations include course facial features, multiple bone fractures, joint hyperextensibility, and retained primary dentition. Patients require long-term antibiotic therapy. We report here a classical case of HIES with rare associations of natal teeth, bilateral cervical ribs, and conductive deafness. The patient was being treated with monteleukast and dapsone.

A new syndrome, consisting of natal or defective teeth, or both, steatocystomas of the skin, and epidermal cysts of the scalp, is described in several generations. One member of the family had eruptive molars. Male-to-male transmission suggests autosomal dominant inheritance. This syndrome should be separated from pachyonychia congenita I and II.

Natal teeth are infrequent at birth. Dental extraction is the most recommended treatment to avoid complications. Reactive soft tissue lesions associated to natal tooth or its incomplete removal are rare. A five-month-old female presented natal teeth #71 and #81 which were removed the day after the birth. The baby evolved with two nodules in the region of #71 and #81, pedunculated, 10 and 9 mm, respectively, covered by a pink mucosa, firm in consistency. Periapical radiography showed two radiopaque areas, suggestive of root fragments. After 30 days the nodule located in the region of #81 became

Natal and neonatal teeth are rare features that can lead to various issues, from traumatic injuries and feeding difficulties to more severe problems, such as risk of aspiration due to excessive mobility of teeth. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the diagnosis and management of natal and neonatal teeth, and describe three cases of newborns with natal teeth. Decision processes and management are detailed regarding the specificity of each case. Periodic follow-up is recommended to maintain oral health and prevent any issues related to premature loss or eruption of primary teeth. A close co

A case of natal teeth associated with traumatic ulceration to the ventral surface of the tongue (Riga-Fedes syndrome) in a four week old boy is presented. On radiographic examination, two teeth, present at birth, were found to be early erupted deciduous lower central incisors. A family history of natal teeth, all involving both lower deciduous central incisors associated with trauma to the tongue during suckling, was elicited. The ulceration healed over a period of four weeks using an innovative conservative treatment regime, involving the use of Stomahesive Wafer. Four months later the only s

Reports of natal and neonatal teeth have been well documented in the literature, although the presence of natal primary molars remains rare, and a clear management strategy does not exist. This is a case study of a female newborn delivered at a gestational age of 41 weeks 1 day to a 31-year-old G1P1001 mother. Apgar scores were 8 and 9 at 1 and 5 min, respectively. The infant was delivered by cesarean section and was admitted to the Mass General Hospital Newborn Nursery, where she received routine care. The patient had two posterior molars, which warranted consultation for oral maxillofacial s

Natal teeth are those present in the oral cavity at the child's birth. These teeth can cause ulcers on the ventral surface of the tongue, lip, and the mother's breast characterizing the Riga-Fede Disease. The treatment depends on the tooth's mobility and the risk of aspiration or swallowing; whether it is supernumerary or regular primary teeth; whether it is causing interference in breastfeeding; breast and oral soft tissue injuries; and the general state of child's health. A 1-month-old female infant was diagnosed with two natal teeth and an ulcerated lesion on the ventral surface of the tong

OBJECTIVE: Natal teeth are teeth that are present at birth. Multiple natal teeth are extremely rare. The objective of this study was to find the molecular aetiology of a unique dental phenotype including natal teeth, tooth agenesis, and root maldevelopment in a 5-generation family.
METHODS: Oral and radiographic examination, linkage analysis, whole genome sequencing, and an immunohistochemical study of Kdf1 during tooth development in the mouse embryo were performed. A protein model was generated.
RESULTS: We report a 5-generation family in which multiple natal teeth, oligodontia, and root m

INTRODUCTION: Natal teeth are teeth which are seen at birth and neonatal teeth erupt during the first thirty days after birth. Exact cause is however unknown but trauma, malnutrition, infection or environmental factor can be the causitive factor. Different studies have shown different incident rates.
AIM: To find the incidence of natal teeth in neonates born in the hospital over a period of seven months and also to find out the most commonly occurring natal teeth among them.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study was conducted in the Government Medical College and Hospital, Chengalpattu, C

OBJECTIVE: Natal/neonatal teeth are very common in children with complete unilateral and bilateral cleft lip and palate. The extraction of these teeth is the usual treatment in the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies. The objective of this study was to verify whether these teeth could be of the normal complement or whether they were supernumerary.
DESIGN: The primary dentition of children with cleft lip and palate with and without natal/neonatal teeth was compared at the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies.
SUBJECTS: The sample consisted of 55 children wit

Teeth at the time of birth are termed "natal teeth." The trisomy of the 21st chromosome causes Down syndrome. Natal teeth in Down syndrome patients have not been reported frequently. The purpose of the present report was to describe a case of an infant with natal teeth and multiple cardiac problems, and karyotyping of his peripheral blood smear showed trisomy of the 21st chromosome. Management of natal teeth and the rationale for natal teeth have been demonstrated. The novelty of the case report is that it reports the first Indian infant to report on natal teeth in Down syndrome patients.

BACKGROUND: Natal and neonatal teeth are deciduous teeth present at birth or erupting within the first 30 days of life, respectively. They are a rare dental phenomenon with unclear etiology. Their presence can lead to clinical complications such as feeding difficulties or risk of aspiration. This study aimed to assess the incidence of natal and neonatal teeth in the Polish population over a 15-year period, analyze temporal trends in their occurrence and evaluate potential associations with perinatal variables, including newborn sex, gestational age, and maternal age.
METHODS: A retrospective

Eruption of the first deciduous teeth in children has shown much variation and occasionally may erupt prematurely at birth or within one month of life. Myths about natal/neonatal teeth abound in the Nigerian culture. Nurses are health care providers who are in constant close contact with patients and can be invaluable in helping to dispel these associated myths. However, to provide correct information they should be adequately equipped to do so. The aim of this study thus, was to assess the attitudes and beliefs of some nurses in Ibadan, Nigeria to natal/neonatal teeth in infants. A cross sect

INTRODUCTION: Riga-Fede disease is a rare pediatric condition in which chronic lingual ulceration results from repetitive trauma. Neonatal teeth or underlying neuro-developmental disorders which include Down syndrome are described as causative factors, but to the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of both Down syndrome and natal teeth coexisting. The need for early extraction in the presence of two risk factors is highlighted in this case report.
CASE PRESENTATION: An 18-month-old Sinhalese male presented with an ulcerating lingual mass on the ventral surface of the tongue.

This report concerned 2 cases (1-month and 8-day-old boy and 5-month and 27-day-old boy) of Riga-Fede's disease. The cases were treated with photopolymerized resin coverage of the incisal edges. Generally, the treatment methods for Riga-Fede's disease are discing and extraction of the traumatized teeth. The photopolymerized resin coverage proved to help in the rapid healing of the ulcerations. This method is useful because it is easy and is able to avoid a false pulp exposure of the hypoplastic natal and neonatal teeth by discing. 7 cases of natal and neonatal teeth were encountered at the Ped

Congenital granular cell lesion (CGCL) is a rare benign oral cavity tumor in infants. Neonatal teeth are also rare dental anomalies that appear during the first month of life. This report describes a case of eruption of neonatal teeth after surgical excision of CGCL. Surprisingly, residual neonatal teeth erupted after extraction of the neonatal teeth. If neonatal teeth are mobile, they should be carefully extracted with curettage of the underlying tissues of the dental papilla; failure to curette the socket might result in eruption of odontogenic remnants. If neonatal teeth were exfoliated, pa

The term "neonatal teeth" is applied to those teeth which erupt within the first 30 days of life. Case of a fifteen day old infant is presented here with a neonatal tooth that led to serious complications. An attempt has been made to highlight that these predeciduous teeth can sometimes lead to dangerous consequences about which the general dentist must be aware of and must take prompt action.
