Metastatic mandibular ameloblastoma of the lung ten years after primary resection: A rare case report.

Ameloblastoma is a rare odontogenic neoplasm of the jaw. It usually behaves as a benign, slow growing tumour of the oral cavity with a high recurrence rate, especially when it is inadequately resected. A small proportion of ameloblastomas metastasize to distant organs, with lungs representing the most common site of metastatic spread. In this report, we present the case of a middle-aged man with two pulmonary nodules and a history of mandibular ameloblastoma excised 10 years prior to this radiological finding. Following resection and histopathological analysis of the lung lesion, a diagnosis o

Giant Cell Tumor of the Distal Radius: Wide Resection, Ulna Translocation With Wrist Arthrodesis.

Giant cell tumor (GCT) of the bone is a locally aggressive neoplasm and usually managed with extended curettage and adjuvant therapy, which is associated with reduced risk of recurrence. The juxta-articular distal radius giant cell tumor is challenging due to the destruction of subchondral bone and articular cartilage, making it difficult to salvage the wrist joint anatomy and function. Various methods described include wide resection and reconstruction of allograft or centralization of the ulna with wrist arthrodesis. We present the functional outcome of distal end radius GCT, which was succe

[Leiomyosarcoma of the spermatic cord. Case report and revision of the literature].

A 76 year old man presented with an asymptomatic, very big left scrotal mass that was found to be a leiomyosarcoma of the spermatic cord. It was treated by radical orchiectomy with ligation of the spermatic cord at the internal inguinal ring. Convalescence was uneventful. 6 months postoperatively there was no evidence of local recurrence of the neoplasm or distant metastasis.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor arising in an adrenal ganglioneuroma in an adult male homosexual.

The authors report a case of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor arising in an adrenal ganglioneuroma in an adult. This is the first such case occurring in the absence of a history of childhood neuroblastoma treated with radiation, and provides evidence that such a transformation can occur spontaneously. The neoplasm demonstrated a highly malignant biologic behavior with rapid growth, local recurrence, and metastasis.

Percutaneous endoureterotomy of uretero-ileal stenosis in the Camey-Le Duc substitution bladder. Our experience in two cases.

Two patients with a Camey-Le Duc substitution bladder who presented monolateral uretero-ileal stenosis were treated by percutaneous endoureteral incision using electrocautery and moulding stents. The results were encouraging in one patient after 12 months follow-up. In the other case, however, endourological manipulation had solely symptomatic purpose since the stenosis was caused by local recurrence of primitive neoplasm.

Lipoma of the Palate: An Uncommon Finding.

BACKGROUND: Lipoma is a benign neoplasm originated from adipose cells circumscribed by connective tissue. This neoplasm represents about 1% to 4.4% of all oral benign tumors and it is rarely located in the palate area. OBJECTIVE: This case reports the occurrence of an oral lipoma in the hard palate of a 57-year-old woman and discusses its etiology and treatment. CASE REPORT: The treatment consisted in the total resection of the lesion and laser therapy. The patient is being followed up for forty three months with no signs of recurrence. CONCLUSION: Lipoma in hard palate is a rare entity tha

Giant cell type of primary intracranial malignant fibrous histiocytoma: a case report.

The primary intracranial giant cell type of malignant fibrous histiocytoma (GC-MFH) is rare, and the resemblance to meningioma causes diagnostic confusion. Discrimination from meningioma bears important therapeutic and prognostic implications. We report one such case in which an extracranial malignant neoplasm was seen after the initial diagnosis and treatment. A 62-year-old woman presented with history of seizure. MRI revealed a huge right frontotemporal, homogeneously enhanced extraaxial lesion with significant mass effect. The main vascular supply was the middle meningeal artery. Workup for

Mohs micrographic surgery for eccrine porocarcinoma: an update and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Eccrine porocarcinoma (EPC) is a rare malignancy of the eccrine sweat glands that is locally aggressive with a high propensity to metastasize. Most cases have been treated by wide local excision (WLE) with 20% local recurrence rate. There have been 20 cases of EPC treated with Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) in the literature. OBJECTIVE: To review the literature regarding the management of this aggressive tumor using MMS. METHODS: A comprehensive literature review was conducted by searching the PubMed database using the keywords Mohs, porocarcinoma, malignant eccrine poroma, and

Diagnosis and management of esthesioneuroblastoma.

Esthesioneuroblastoma is an uncommon malignant neoplasm of the nasal vault that in the past was considered benign or low-grade malignant. Surgical approaches in the main were transnasal, with a high recurrence rate and ultimate patient death. With the modern imaging of CT and MRI, should the patient be willing and fit enough, esthesioneuroblastoma currently should be approached using a craniofacial resection. Large tumors should be considered for preoperative chemotherapy and postoperative radiotherapy. Local tumor recurrence is not uncommon and is generally related to the attention to local a

Clear cell eccrine carcinomas of the skin. A clinicopathologic study of nine patients.

BACKGROUND: Sweat gland carcinomas with clear cell features are extremely rare neoplasms, with few well documented cases reported in the literature. METHODS: Data on nine patients with malignant eccrine adnexal neoplasms characterized by a prominent clear cell neoplastic component were studied. Immunohistochemical stains with a panel of antibodies against epithelial, stromal, and neural antigens were performed on five tumors and electron microscopic examination of one. RESULTS: The tumors showed a spectrum of histologic features and growth patterns that ranged from well differentiated, low g

Management of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the face using lower trapezius musculocutaneous pedicle flap reconstruction: a case report.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare neoplasm which represents <0.1% of all tumors but it is considered the most common skin sarcoma. It is a slow-growing tumor that arises from the dermis and invades deeper tissues. The precise origin of DFSP is not well known. It is most frequently seen on the trunk, extremities, and head and neck. The standard treatment of the localized huge DFSP consists of a wide local surgical resection with recommended surgical margins of 2-3 cm. Local recurrence after incomplete excision is common. We present a case of 35-year-old man with enormous bulky ma

An atypically located pleomorphic adenoma: Radiological and pathological correlation.

Pleomorphic adenoma is a common benign salivary gland neoplasm which very rarely occurs in the breast. Its radiologic and pathologic appearance may be mistaken for other benign or malignant lesions such as a fibroadenoma or invasive ductal carcinoma. Due to the risk of local recurrence and, rarely, malignant transformation, wide local excision with clear margins is recommended. As such, a correct diagnosis of this lesion is important to ensure appropriate surgical treatment. We report a case of an atypically located pleomorphic adenoma with radiologic-pathologic correlation in an asymptomatic

Multifocal Recurrent Microcystic Adnexal Carcinoma.

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) is a rare and locally aggressive neoplasm with preponderance for local recurrence but rarely nodal or distant metastasis. A 38-year-old male was referred to our clinic for definitive treatment of known recurrent and concern for multifocal MAC from previous biopsy. The patient was treated with modified Mohs and reconstruction with an anterolateral thigh (ALT) free flap for tissue coverage. This case highlights the rare nature of multifocal MAC, treatment challenges of Mohs clearance versus wide local excision, and reconstructive challenge associated with larg

Adenosquamous carcinoma of the tongue: A case report and an overview of histogenetic concepts.

Adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC), a rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma, is an aggressive and highly infiltrating epithelial neoplasm, which has a distinct histomorphological features comprising simultaneous areas of squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Some researchers consider it as a controversial neoplasm, as it may arise from the ducts of the minor salivary gland or from the overlying surface epithelium. In the head-and-neck region, commonly affected sites include paranasal sinuses, larynx and oral cavity. Areas of occurrence in the oral cavity include palate, tonsillar pillar are

Human Papillomavirus: Possible Mechanisms of Damage in Sinonasal Inverted Papilloma.

Sinonasal inverted papilloma (SNIP) is a benign neoplasm derived from the Schneiderian membrane and the endoderm of the ciliated respiratory epithelium of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. SNIP is uncommon and typically found between the fourth and seventh decades of life, with men being more frequently affected. The medical significance of this benign neoplasm lies in its potential to cause local tissue destruction, tendency toward malignancy, and high recurrence rate. This study describes the histology of the nasosinusal mucosa and histological characteristics of SNIP, as well as its c

[Bilateral inverted papilloma originating from the frontal sinus].

Inverted papilloma is a benign neoplasm characterized by its high rate of recurrence, local aggressiveness, and malignancy potential. Nasal obstruction is the most frequent presenting complaint. Bilateral inverted papillom involving both sides of the frontal sinus is extremely rare. Herein, we present a 64-year-old male case with a bilateral inverted papilloma involving the frontal sinus which was removed by an endoscopic surgery.

Phyllodes tumors of the breast: A comprehensive review of diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.

Phyllodes Tumor (PT) of the breast is a rare type of fibroepithelial neoplasm, classified into benign, borderline, and malignant subtypes. These tumors are known to be locally aggressive and have an inherent potential for Local Recurrence (LR), even after adequate surgical treatment. Establishing strategies to reduce LR has become increasingly important, as 21 % to 36 % of patients experience disease recurrence despite achieving negative surgical margins. Although surgical resection of the lesion is the gold standard treatment for all subtypes of phyllodes tumors, the ideal extent of the surgi
