Thioureas are a relatively uncommon cause of allergic contact dermatitis and a rare cause of photoallergic contact dermatitis. They are primarily used as vulcanization accelerators in the production of neoprene, and common sources of exposure include gloves, shoe insoles, wet suits, and orthopedic braces. We report a multifactorial case of severe episodic photoallergic contact dermatitis to thiourea in a 29-year-old firefighter. Multiple sources of neoprene exposure were identified, including a firefighting mask, continuous positive airway pressure strap, and hockey helmet.

Once installed, underground concrete pipes with rubber gaskets might be exposed to contaminated soil and groundwater. A pipe material monitoring capsule (PMMC) has been developed to evaluate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) breaking through three types of pipe gaskets; Neoprene, Buna-N, and Viton. Fifteen car assembly workers became sensitized to self-skinning neoprene foam weather strips by contact with the bare forearms for the greater part of the working day. A series of patch tests showed 11 out of 11 tested to be sensitive to diethyl thiourea present in the neoprene as an accelerator. The condition cleared on modification of the assembly process.

Experimental pancreatic transplantation was performed in dogs using different surgical techniques. Ten dogs underwent whole organ graft with diversion of exocrine secretion by anastomosis of duodenal segment to bladder (six animals) and of duodenum to a jejunal loop (four animals). Segmental pancreatic grafts were performed in 10 dogs with ductal filling with polymer in six animals and duct ligation in four dogs. It is concluded that segmental pancreatic graft with ductal filling with polymer is preferable to the other surgical techniques.

P-tert-butylphenol formaldehyde resin (PTBPFR) is recognized as a significant source of allergic contact dermatitis in adults and children in association with athletic gear, shoes, and neoprene. Different methods of pancreatic stump management are possible to perform after pancreaticoduodenectomy. The group of 24 patients after pancreaticoduodenectomy with pancreaticojejunostomy, pancreaticogastrostomy and occlusion of the pancreatic duct by Neopren or Ethiblock were analysed. According to the literature and own results pancreatogastrostomy or occlusion of the pancreatic duct seems to be the safer procedure, but sometimes the choice is made intraoperatively.
