BACKGROUND: Both night-eating syndrome and binge-eating disorder are characterized by episodes of excessive food consumption, significant distress, and functional impairment related to maladaptive eating behaviors. Both types of eating disorders are associated with poorer sleep quality. Cognitive behavioral therapy has demonstrated good outcomes for binge-eating disorder; however, it is unknown if it is effective for night-eating syndrome and comorbid insomnia.
CASE PRESENTATION: The current paper presents a case report of a Dutch woman in her 40's receiving cognitive behavioral therapy-enhan

OBJECTIVES: Despite the initial characterization of night eating syndrome (NES) in 1955, the definition and operationalization of its symptoms has varied considerably. To standardize the definition of NES and its symptoms, Allison et al. developed research diagnostic criteria. Even so, conceptualization and intervention of NES remains guided by medical models, which assume that pathology is driven by a distinct, underlying causal mechanism. Conversely, recent work on other eating disorders (EDs) has used network analysis to reconceptualize ED psychopathology and treatment by identifying (a) un

Introduction Night eating syndrome (NES) is categorized as an eating disorder characterized by a delayed circadian rhythm of food intake and involves evening hyperphagia and/or nighttime awakening and food consumption two or more times per week. Young adults showed a higher prevalence of night eating, and students who reported high stress, irregular sleep patterns, and disordered eating may be more likely to develop NES symptoms. Objective This study aimed to assess the prevalence of Night Eating Syndrome among college students in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu (India) and to find out the

Night eating syndrome (NES) is characterized by excessive evening and/or nocturnal eating episodes. Studies indicate an attentional bias towards food in other eating disorders. For NES, however, evidence of attentional food processing is lacking. Attention towards food and non-food stimuli was compared using eye-tracking in 19 participants with NES and 19 matched controls without eating disorders during a free exploration paradigm and a visual search task. In the free exploration paradigm, groups did not differ in initial fixation position or gaze duration. However, a significant orienting bia

INTRODUCTION: Night-eating syndrome (NES) involves uncontrolled and most often repeated binge eating during the night. It is related with mood disorders as well as sleep disorders and it may cause obesity. Risks related to NES are obesity, binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, affective disorders, and sleep disorders. The objective of this study is to analyze eating habits in terms of the risk assessment of NES occurrence in the population of women in the Masovian Voivodeship (in Poland).

Night Eating Syndrome (NES) is an eating disorder associated with circadian rhythm disruption, but its clinical relevance in metabolic diseases remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of NES in individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and to examine its associations with glycemic control and metabolic risk markers within each subtype. This cross-sectional study included 500 patients with diabetes (108 with type 1 and 392 with type 2). NES was assessed using the Night Eating Questionnaire (NEQ), with a score ≥ 25 indicating NES. Group comparisons, correlation analyses,

Night eating syndrome (NES) represents a delay in the circadian pattern of food intake, manifested by evening hyperphagia and/or nocturnal awakenings accompanied by ingestions of food. A neurobiological marker of NES has been implicated with the recently discovered therapeutic response to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) sertraline. This pilot SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) study compared the serotonin transporter (SERT) uptake ratios of night eaters with those of healthy controls. Six night eaters underwent SPECT imaging using the radiopharmaceutical (123)

INTRODUCTION: Night Eating Syndrome (NES) is a distinct psychopathological entity variously considered as a mental health disorder, eating disorder or circadian rhythm disorder. Medical students are faced with hectic schedules, sleep interruptions and high-stakes exams as they become healthcare providers. Such social factors coupled with poor dietary practices may impact their mental health and biological clocks, leading to NES amongst this population. However, the magnitude of its occurrence and the associated factors are still not well understood, especially in an Indian context. The present

Previous research has shown that "attachment anxiety" is a robust predictor of disinhibited eating behaviours and that this relationship is underpinned by difficulties in managing emotion. Night eating syndrome (NES), a proposed eating disorder characterized by evening hyperphagia, nocturnal awakenings to eat, and morning anorexia, is also associated with eating to manage emotion. Across two studies (N = 276 & N = 486), we considered a relationship between attachment anxiety and NES. In Study 1, we hypothesised (pre-registered) that attachment anxiety would predict NES score and that this rela

Background and Objectives: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder that significantly affects quality of life. Night eating syndrome (NES), characterized by evening hyperphagia and nocturnal eating, may worsen reflux through delayed gastric emptying and increased nocturnal acid exposure, yet evidence in young adults remains limited. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of GERD and NES, examine their association, and identify clinically relevant predictors among adults in southern Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 8

This web-based cross-sectional survey aimed to elucidate the differences between the two core symptoms of night eating syndrome (NES): evening hyperphagia and nocturnal ingestion in the general Japanese population aged 16-79 years. Participants who consumed at least 25% of daily calories after dinner were defined as having evening hyperphagia. Those who consumed food after sleep initiation at least twice a week were determined to have nocturnal ingestion. Of the 8348 participants, 119 (1.5%) were categorized in the evening hyperphagia group, 208 (2.6%) in the nocturnal ingestion group, and 802

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Cardiovascular disease develops throughout life, with metabolic syndrome components increasing risk. Eating patterns - how long individuals eat during a 24-h period and the timing of caloric intake, particularly at night - may play critical roles in metabolic syndrome development. This study aimed to describe eating window length and night eating (% of calories consumed after 8pm or after dinner) and their associations with metabolic syndrome risk in emerging adults. Diet quality was assessed as a mediator between eating variables and metabolic syndrome risk.
