Forestier's disease is a skeletal pathology that sometimes affects the head and neck as a consequence of hyperostotic involvement of the cervical spine. We report the case of a 73-year-old man who had progressive difficulty in swallowing solids. Gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a bony mass in the hypopharynx. The case is described and the disease manifestations in head and neck are discussed.

The findings of paranasal and (or) orbital CT scannings of 283 cases who suffered from the nose-eye-related diseases were studied retrospectively in this paper. Of 283 cases, which were proved either by the operation or histopathology, 128 were neoplastic diseases, 120 were traumatic fractures, 23 inflammatory lesions and 12 fibrous dysplasia. A comprehensive allergological examinations of 92 patients with lesions of the nose and paranasal cavities and 20 essentially healthy subjects was carried out, using skin tests and neutrophil tests. Half of the patients showed sensitization to Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes allergens, which occurred more frequently in patients with chronic purulent sinusitis. It is recommended to expose such patients to allergological examinations and to prescribe, if indicated, desensitization therapy.
