Exogenous kinetin mitigates arsenic-induced oxidative stress by regulating ROS homeostasis and antioxidant defense in Ocimum basilicum L.

Integrated physiological, biochemical, histochemical, and structural analyses demonstrated that exogenous kinetin effectively alleviates arsenic-induced oxidative damage in Ocimum basilicum. Arsenic (As) contamination poses a severe threat to crop productivity by inducing oxidative stress through excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. This study aimed to investigate the protective role of exogenous kinetin (KN), a synthetic cytokinin, in alleviating As-induced phytotoxicity in Ocimum basilicum L. through a comprehensive morphological, physiological, biochemical, histochemical, a

Evaluation of gastric anti-ulcer activity of fixed oil of Ocimum basilicum Linn. and its possible mechanism of action.

Fixed oil of O. basilicum was found to possess significant antiulcer activity against aspirin, indomethacin, alcohol, histamine, reserpine, serotonin and stress-induced ulceration in experimental animal models. Significant inhibition was also observed in aspirin-induced gastric ulceration and secretion in pylorus ligated rats. The lipoxygenase inhibiting, histamine antagonistic and antisecretory effects of the oil could probably contribute towards antiulcer activity. O. basilicum fixed oil may be considered to be a drug of natural origin which possesses both antiinflammatory and anti-ulcer act

Tragacanth gum-based nano-nutraceuticals synthesis by encapsulation of beetroot juice and Ocimum basilicum leaves for micronutrient deficient population.

Micronutrient deficiencies, such as iron, folic acid, and vitamins C and D, are currently prevalent due to inadequate consumption of natural food sources, namely raw vegetables and fruits. This deficiency is compounded by the growing reliance on synthetic nutraceuticals and processed food, which exhibit poor absorbency within the gastrointestinal tract. Scientific studies consistently indicate that naturally prepared whole foods are superior in terms of nutrient absorption compared to processed and synthetic supplements. To address this issue, we utilized FDA-approved tragacanth gum (TG) in th

Agronomic Performance, Mineral Composition, and Biochemical Characteristics of Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) Grown in Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Aquaponic Systems.

Aquaponic systems are among the sustainable approaches for combining fish farming and plant cultivation and have been proposed as potentially economically viable food production technologies. Their performance depends on the balanced environmental conditions shared by fish, nitrifying bacteria, and plants. This study assessed the performance of a trout-based (Oncorhynchus mykiss) decoupled aquaponic system for basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) growth and essential oil composition. Two cultivation strategies were compared over 60 days: a non-supplemented system relying exclusively on trout rearing wa

Quercetin-3-Glucoside from Ocimum basilicum ameliorates polycystic ovary syndrome by targeting the IL-6/JAK-STAT3 signaling axis.

Chronic inflammation is a key contributor to the pathophysiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), disrupting hormonal signaling and ovarian function. This study investigated the therapeutic potential of Quercetin-3-Glucoside (Q3G), a bioactive flavonoid from Ocimum basilicum (OB), against PCOS-associated inflammation. An integrated approach of network pharmacology and molecular docking predicted Q3G interaction with key inflammatory targets IL6, STAT3, and BCL2, predominantly through the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. These predictions were validated in a letrozole-induced PCOS mouse model. M
