OBJECTIVE: To develop a competency evaluation framework for OR nurse specialist training instructors.
METHODS: Guided by the Iceberg Model and the Onion Model of competency, a preliminary indicator framework was developed through a literature review, behavioral event interviews, and expert group discussions. A two-round Delphi survey involving 31 operating room nursing experts was conducted to refine the indicators. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to determine the weights of the final indicators. Expert authority, participation rate, and the degree of consensus were assessed.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of seamless operating room nursing combined with multistyle health education on the psychological state, rehabilitation quality, and nursing satisfaction in patients with internal fixation of femoral fracture.
METHODS: Eighty patients who received internal fixation of femoral fracture in our hospital (November 2020-November 2021) were chosen as the research objects, and their clinical data were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into experimental group and control group according to the sequence of hospital admission. In perioperative period, the con

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of predictive nursing in the operating room on the stress response and risk events of elderly patients with lower limb fractures.
METHODS: The medical records of 114 elderly patients with lower limb fractures who underwent surgical reduction from August 2020 to May 2022 in Baiyin First People's Hospital were collected for this retrospective analysis. Among them, 54 patients who received routine nursing during the perioperative period were the control group, and 60 patients who received predictive nursing in operating room during the perioperative period were

Aseptic technique is integral to infection prevention and control, but there is no agreement concerning its aims, how it is undertaken outside operating rooms, and related terminology. In addition, there is a lack of concordance in international guidelines. This critical review was undertaken to explore breaches of asepsis that could occur during aseptic procedures outside of the operating room environment. There was little direct research evidence, leading to low levels of certainty in outcomes. This review established that low levels of contamination are exhibited by some materials not marke

OBJECTIVE: Robotic surgery is increasingly used across specialties, yet its ergonomic impact on operating room nurses remains underexplored. This multicenter study aimed to evaluate the ergonomic challenges and musculoskeletal discomfort among scrub nurses during robotic surgery and to compare these outcomes with laparoscopic procedures, with additional analysis based on years of robotic surgery experience.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This cross-sectional, multicenter, questionnaire-based study was conducted between January and February 2025, among scrub nurses with experience in robotic surgery fr

Registered nurses in the operating room require specialized competencies that surpass basic educational training. Existing national and international documents attempt to outline these competencies but often lack comprehensive details. To address this, a repertoire of technical and professional competencies for operating room nurses, aligned with European and National Qualifications Frameworks, is proposed. Aim: Develop a repertoire of technical and professional competencies for perioperative and perianesthesiological specialist nursing roles. Methods: An at-home ethnography design was employe

BACKGROUND: The surgical environment has multiple factors that could affect nurses' health. The aim was to determine the effects of the working environment of operating room nurses on their health compared to hospitalization nurses.
METHODS: A sample of operating room nurses and hospitalization nurses were included in the study and participated by filling in a self-report survey containing sociodemographic data items, the validated Nordic and SF12 scales and a list of medical conditions.
RESULTS: Three hundred and thirty-one nurses participated in the study. Statistically significant results

All infants born in 1973-1978 to nurses working in anesthesiology or as operating room nurses were identified from a nationwide registry of all births in Sweden, a registry of hospitalized spontaneous and legally induced abortions that covers 70% of Sweden, and a nurse registry (n = 1323). For comparison, a group was formed that consisted of nurses working in medical wards (n = 1382). Delivery outcome was also compared with the estimate expected from nationwide figures. No statistically significant differences were seen, but infants of the anesthesiology/operating room nurses had a slightly hi

Embodied artificial intelligence may extend surgical robotics beyond teleoperation by enabling robots to interpret natural-language commands, perceive dynamic environments, and generate adaptive physical actions. Surgical instrument exchange provides a clinically recognizable test case requiring communication, visual localization, dexterity, and bidirectional interaction. We developed a voice-interactive robotic scrub nurse through task-specific adaptation of the pretrained π0.5 vision-language-action model capable of voice-conditioned surgical instrument handoff, take-back, and spoken acknowl

Operating rooms are complex, high-risk, and technology-intensive environments in which nurses perform safety-critical roles. This review aimed to reframe workplace safety, wellbeing, and performance among operating room nurses as interconnected system-level determinants of perioperative care. Using a thematic narrative approach and conceptual scope, literature published mainly between 2020 and 2026 was reviewed, with selected foundational studies included where conceptually necessary. Evidence was synthesized across occupational hazards, psychosocial stress, emotional labor, burnout, compassio

INTRODUCTION: Surgical care has been a vital part of healthcare services worldwide. Several patient safety measures have been adopted universally in the operating room (OR) before, during, and following surgical procedures. Despite this, errors or near misses still occur. Nurses in the OR have a pivotal role in the identification of factors that may impact patient safety and quality of care. Therefore, exploring the OR nurses' understanding of their roles and responsibilities for patient care and safety in the intraoperative practice, which could lead to optimal patient safety, is essential.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the application effect of perioperative comprehensive care in patients with coronary heart disease undergoing coronary stent implantation.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 150 patients who underwent coronary stent implantation at our hospital between January 2023 and January 2024. Based on documented perioperative nursing protocols, patients were categorized into an observation group (n=83), which received comprehensive nursing care (including psychological support, structured preoperative preparation, intraoperative coordination, enhanced postoperative

BACKGROUND: Hierarchy can inhibit nurses from raising patient-safety concerns in operating rooms, yet how Chinese peri-operative nurses navigate this with surgeons versus anaesthetists remains underexplored.
AIM: To explore when and how peri-operative nurses in Chinese operating rooms voice, withhold, or adapt patient-safety concerns with surgeons and anaesthetists.
DESIGN: A multi-site qualitative descriptive study using the Critical Incident Technique, supplemented by an interpretive interprofessional workshop.
METHODS: Twenty peri-operative nurses from three tertiary hospitals in Taiyuan

BACKGROUND: Owing to its association with a range of adverse psychological outcomes, including rumination and job stress, perfectionism can affect the performance of operating room nurses, thereby impacting the quality of care, service delivery, and patient safety. This study aimed to investigate the level of perfectionism and its relationship with rumination and job stress in operating room nurses.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted between June 2024 and July 2025 on 202 operating room nurses working in selected hospitals (three randomly selected government hospitals) in Tehra
