Orbital tumors evaluated by computed tomography.

Computed tomography (CT) of more than 90 orbital tumors revealed both benign and malignant neoplasms, including hemangiomas, lacrimal gland tumors, lymphomas, carcinomas, metastases, pseudotumors, and optic nerve tumors. Detection of orbital tumors was better and the information gained more complete with CT than with any other modality.

Intracranial extension of inflammatory pseudotumor of the orbit. Case report.

Orbital pseudotumors are inflammatory lesions of the orbit of unknown etiology, which initially mimic an orbital neoplasm. Involvement of the other orbit is uncommon, and extension into the paranasal sinus rare. Intracranial extension of pseudotumor of the orbit is previously unreported. This is a case report of a patient with pseudotumor of the orbit with intracranial extension. The literature of the subject is reviewed.

Demographics of Pediatric Orbital Lesions: A Tertiary Eye Center Experience in Saudi Arabia.

Orbital lesions vary in their classification, incidence, and presentation depending on the age and geographic distribution. Such lesions in the pediatric age group have been studied extensively because of the possibility of faster progression of orbital involvement and the higher risk of morbidity in this age group in which vision is still developing. In Saudi Arabia, orbital lesions were studied over a 6-year period in the late 1980s, when retinoblastoma cases used to present late with orbital involvement. In this study, we revisited the same topic 20 years later aiming to find out the most r

Rehabilitation of orbital exenteration postsquamous cell carcinoma of orbit using magnet retained two-part silicone and acrylic prosthesis: A case report.

Orbital exenteration performed to treat various neoplasms or nonmalignant diseases results in functional, aesthetic, and psychological issues for the patients. If reconstructive surgery is not possible or not desired by the patient, an orbital prosthesis is an excellent choice for cosmetic and psychological rehabilitation. An orbital prosthesis is aesthetic, durable, long lasting, cost-effective, and most importantly retentive. The present case report describes the rehabilitation of an orbital exenteration postsquamous cell carcinoma using a two-part prosthesis, in which retention is achieved

Orbital Disease in Neuro-Ophthalmology.

Many abnormalities of the orbit present with neuro-ophthalmic findings, such as impaired ocular motility or alignment, and sensory changes, including optic neuropathy. Comprehensive coverage of all orbital diseases is beyond the scope of this article. This review focuses on diagnosis and management of the most common and the most vision- or life-threatening orbital conditions as well as more recently discovered entities and points of active controversy. These conditions include orbital trauma, vascular disease, inflammatory and infectious diseases, and neoplasms. Common presenting symptoms and

Custom Ocular Prosthesis With Intraoral Obturator for Orbital and Intraoral Defects Resulting From Mucormycosis: A Technical Case Report.

Orbital defects can result from a myriad of underlying diseases and injuries. Treatment of malignant neoplasms and maxillofacial trauma are common reasons for orbital exenteration. Recently, a growing number of cases of orbital defects have been reported due to mucormycosis in patients with COVID-19. In this report, we describe a technique to achieve ideal iris orientation in the fabrication of a silicone orbital prosthesis using custom-made eyeglasses as a jig. This method allows for easy orientation and reorientation, enabling precise iris alignment and enhancing the aesthetic outcome.

Orbital Apex Syndrome Associated with Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma and Uterine Leiomyosarcoma: A Report of Synchronous Primary Tumors.

Orbital apex syndrome is an uncommon neuro-ophthalmologic entity caused by lesions affecting the orbital apex and associated with inflammatory, infectious, vascular, and neoplastic processes. Synchronous tumors represent an exceptional condition defined by the simultaneous coexistence of neoplasms with different histological origins. We present the case of a 45-year-old woman with progressive visual acuity loss, painful ophthalmoplegia, facial hypoesthesia, and a right relative afferent pupillary defect, associated with an oropharyngeal lesion, nasal obstruction, dysphagia, and dysphonia. An isolated orbital mass with proptosis and diplopia: an uncommon metastasis from intracranial olfactory neuroblastoma in a chinese patient.

PURPOSE: Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) is a rare neuroectodermal malignant neoplasm that originates from the olfactory sensory epithelium. In reported cases involving the orbit, the primary neoplasms could invade the orbits through bone destruction or cranio-orbital communication anatomical structure. The present study reports a rare case of orbital metastatic tumor arising from an intracranial ONB in a Chinese patient, which is the first case demonstrating an uncommon route of ONB involving the orbit. PATIENT AND METHODS: A 62-year-old man with a right orbital tumor was diagnosed as having a

Solitary Fibrous Tumor in the Orbit: A Rare Occurrence.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) of the orbit are exceptionally rare neoplasms. We present the case of a 77-year-old female who first presented in 2021 with a spindle cell neoplasm in the superior right orbit. Following surgical excision and a negative PET scan, she opted for surveillance without adjuvant radiation therapy. Three years later, MRI revealed a recurrence of the orbital SFT. The patient underwent a second surgical resection and adjuvant proton radiation therapy to reduce the risk of further recurrence. This case draws attention to the importance of long-term follow-up in orbital SFT

Congenital mature orbital teratoma: A case report.

Teratomas are gonadal or extragonadal neoplasms, derived from the three embryonic tissues, composed of germ cells of the neuroectoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm. Congenital orbital teratoma (OCT) commonly affects the left orbit, primarily affecting women over men at a ratio of 2:1. We present the case of a female patient of 9 days of extrauterine life with a left mature congenital orbital teratoma. The orbit and oculoplastic service performed an orbital exenteration and total resection of the tumor mass.

Orbital Plasmacytoma in an Elderly Patient With Multiple Myeloma.

Orbital plasmacytomas are exceedingly rare neoplasms characterized by the proliferation of monoclonal plasma cells in the orbital soft tissues. Their presentation and clinical course can be diverse, making early diagnosis and management challenging. This case report sheds light on one such instance, emphasizing the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of this uncommon condition. We present an 81-year-old patient with a prior diagnosis of multiple myeloma and bilateral orbital plasmacytomas, highlighting the importance of imaging in diagnosis and management.

Clinical, morphologic, immunophenotypic, and molecular genetic analysis of bilateral ocular adnexal lymphoid neoplasms in 17 patients.

We investigated the clinical, morphologic, immunologic, and molecular genetic characteristics of the lymphoid tumors occurring in 17 patients with bilateral ocular adnexal lymphoid neoplasia. We found no obvious differences in the age, sex, clinical appearance, or ophthalmic findings between patients with unilateral and those with bilateral ocular adnexal lymphoid neoplasms. Five orbital and two conjunctival lymphoid neoplasms removed from five patients were polyclonal pseudolymphomas, while nine orbital, eight conjunctival, and two eyelid lymphoid neoplasms removed from 12 patients were monoc

Tumours of the eye and orbit in Ibadan.

Four hundred and forty ocular and orbital tumours seen in Ibadan over 11-year-period (1980-1990) are reviewed. Three quarters of the 252 patients who had enucleation had malignant neoplasms, of which 55% were retinoblastomas. The mean age of patients with retinoblastomas (3.2 years) was less than that of patients with carcinoma and malignant melanomas (47 years). Malignant melanomas were rare neoplasms in Ibadan. The commonest orbital lymphoma was Burkitt's lymphoma. Only 24% of the enucleated eyes had inflammatory conditions, of which 38% gave a positive history of trauma. Inflammatory lesion

Orbital extension of a frontal sinus osteoma in a thirteen-year-old girl.

Osteomas are uncommon, slow-growing, benign osteogenic neoplasms that arise most frequently in the craniofacial skeleton. (1,2) Osteoma is the most common benign tumor of the nose and paranasal sinuses and the most common neoplasm of the frontal sinus. (3-5) Paranasal sinus osteomas originate in the sinus wall, fill the lumen with well-defined mature osseous tissue, and occasionally extend into the orbit where they give rise to orbital signs and symptoms. Osteomas most commonly become symptomatic in the second to fifth decade in life, but orbital involvement has rarely been reported in patient

Primary adenocarcinoma of the orbit initially diagnosed as idiopathic sclerosing orbital inflammation.

PURPOSE: Differentiating idiopathic sclerosing orbital inflammation from orbital inflammation secondary to neoplasia may be challenging, as both processes can present similarly. Neoplasms in the orbit may induce inflammation with accompanying fibrosis. Limited sections of histopathological specimens may demonstrate nonspecific inflammation and lead to an inaccurate diagnosis. OBSERVATIONS: The authors present a case of infiltrating adenocarcinoma of the orbit with mucinous features which was misdiagnosed as idiopathic sclerosing orbital inflammation due to three separate benign biopsy specime

[MALT lymphoma of the orbit].

MALT lymphomas of the orbit are rare orbital tumors; the differential diagnosis needs to exclude inflammatory pseudotumors of the orbit, but also benign lymphoproliferations, pseudolymphomas, and other orbital neoplasms. After histological confirmation of the diagnosis staging is necessary, and - as long as the disease is localized exclusively in the orbit - radiation therapy should be started. The clinical picture of MALT lymphoma and its differential diagnosis and treatment are discussed with reference to an actual case.

Orbital Cellular Myofibroma: A Rare Case With Detailed Vascular Characterization.

This case report describes a rare presentation of orbital cellular myofibroma in a 30-year-old female who initially presented with right proptosis and conjunctival injection. Endovascular embolization followed by surgical resection revealed an unencapsulated, vascular tumor with histopathologic and molecular findings consistent with cellular myofibroma harboring an SRF::RELA gene fusion. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges associated with orbital tumors and the importance of considering myofibroma in the differential diagnosis. The report also underscores the role of multidisciplina
