Treatment of Skeletal Class II Division 1 Using Twin Block Myofunctional Appliance.

Myofunctional appliances are customarily used to treat Class II malocclusions in growing children to alter their growth. Functional appliances are widely accepted to enhance skeletal relationships in the short term efficiently. It utilizes muscular forces by muscles to make dental and skeleton modifications. The myofunctional appliance might be removable or fixed. The variation of mode and method of action depends on the design, but the forces created by the muscles' stretching provide their effect. According to research, the effectiveness of functional appliances as a therapy for Class II mal

Usage of Silver Nanoparticles in Orthodontic Bonding Reagents.

Fixed orthodontic appliances, which are cemented to tooth surfaces, complicate the maintenance of oral hygiene and create a rough surface that is favorable for bacteria attachment. Additionally, the presence of orthodontic appliances may conceive a unique environment that interacts with cariogenic microorganisms, fostering a distinct microbial ecosystem compared to that of the patients without orthodontic appliances, thus increasing the vulnerability of tooth surfaces to demineralization and caries formation. Silver (Ag) has shown strong antimicrobial effects and has been extensively investiga

Functional appliances: mode of action and clinical use.

Functional appliances are frequently used in the treatment of Class II division 1 malocclusions, either in isolation or, more commonly, before a course of fixed appliance therapy. Extensive speculation and investigation into the precise mode of action of these appliances has recently focused on their growth-restraining effect on the maxilla, their growth-enhancing effect on the mandible and dentoalveolar and soft tissue effects. The different types of functional appliances are described in this article, with emphasis placed on practitioners adopting a component approach to design. A checklist

[Canine avulsion: An extreme complication of a fixed mandibular lingual retainer].

INTRODUCTION: The use of fixed retainers at the end of a course of orthodontic treatment has become standard practice. The main complication that can occur with fixed retainers is the detachment of the wire from one or more teeth. A less common complication is unwanted tooth movement. METHOD: This article presents a patient with extreme tooth movement associated with a mandibular fixed retainer. Ten years after orthodontic treatment, a 26-year-old male sought treatment for post-orthodontic movement of the mandibular anterior six teeth. Despite the fixed retainer still being attached to all te

Removable orthodontic appliances: new perspectives on capabilities and efficiency.

AIM: Removable appliances are a dependable choice for many patients but like all orthodontic appliances, they have some limitations in use. Patient selection and appropriate appliance design are two key factors for success. Many patients, especially adults, prefer intra-oral appliances to extra-oral devices. Sometimes a removable intra-oral appliance can solve a dental problem in a shorter period of time compared to fixed treatment, and this has also been repeatedly seen in molar distalisation. From the interceptive perspective, the appliance can prevent or alleviate an impending crowding for
