[Experience with surgical-orthodontic management of impacted and retained upper canines].

On basis of experiences obtained in the course of the surgical orthodontic treatment of 26 upper impacted and retained, respectively, incisors it has been established that, at given conditions, positioning the incisor into occlusion should be tried, even if the axis position approaches 90 degrees. The lesion is discovered relatively lately, many do not risk the treatment and the number of interrupted treatments is high as well. There is possibility to avoid possible complications, interruption of joining to force system, loss of anchorage, pulpa necrosis, root resorption, cysta follicularis.

Autotransplantation of retained canines unable to undergo orthodontic traction. A clinical report.

AIM: The canine is the tooth that, together with the third molar, presents the highest risk of inclusion: 85% of these teeth are located in the palate and 15% in the buccal area. In most treatment plans, retained canines are driven to extrusion through orthodontic treatment. However, in some cases, for technical reasons or patient choice, it is not possible to perform this consolidated approach. The present clinical report evaluates 10 ectopic canines transplanted in both adults and younger patients with up to 60 months of follow-up. CASE DESCRIPTION: Two clinical cases are described in detai

Orthodontic treatment of a mandibular incisor fenestration resulting from a broken retainer.

This article describes the orthodontic relapse with mandibular incisor fenestration in a 36-year-old man who had undergone orthodontic treatment 21 years previously. The patient reported that his mandibular 3 × 3 bonded retainer had been partially debonded and broken 4 years earlier. The mandibular left lateral incisor remained bonded to the retainer and received the entire load of the incisors; consequently, there was extreme labial movement of the root, resulting in dental avulsion. As part of the treatment, the root was repositioned lingually using a titanium-molybdenum segmented archwire f

Evaluation of the physical and mechanical properties of 3D-printed resin for orthodontic fixed lingual retainers: An in vitro study.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Fixed lingual retainers (FLRs) often experience structural instability, including poor adaptation, and the untwisting of spiral wires, which can lead to unwanted tooth movement. Digital workflows have enhanced the appliance's accuracy. This study evaluated the water sorption (Wsp), water solubility (Wsl), staining resistance, and flexural performance of three-dimensionally printed resin (3DR) to determine its optimal design for FLRs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cylindrical 3DR specimens were immersed in distilled water and artificial saliva for 7, 14, and 30 days. Wsp and Wsl w

Utilizing orthodontic appliances to retain and disguise a pediatric maxillary obturator throughout growth.

Unique challenges are encountered when providing an obturator for an adolescent patient. Challenges include the need to modify the obturator throughout growth, engaging the mixed dentition or partially erupted teeth with minimal undercuts, the psychosocial challenges of an actively maturing patient, and the possible need for coincidental orthodontic therapy. This clinical report describes the ongoing rehabilitation of a patient who presented at the age of 10 with a biopsy-confirmed palatal mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Incorporating orthodontic brackets for retention of innovative adjustable obtur

[The surgical-orthodontic classification of retained and dystopic teeth of the second dentition in dysostosis cleidocranialis].

Dysostosis cleidocranialis concerns both teeth and jaw and is characterized by supernumerary teeth, dentitio tarda, tooth impaction and eventually follicular cysts. The concept of treatment can be divided in two stages: 1. At the beginning of the delayed secondary dentition (dentitio tarda) the operative removal of the supernumerary tooth germs and 2. corresponding to the belated morphological development (dentitio tarda) the operative exposure of the impacted teeth of the secondary dentition. The first operation facilitates a morphological development and especially a vertical drift without a
