We report a new hemoglobin (Hb) variant, found in a North-East Italian family living in the city of Treviso. We have evaluated the efficacy of nedocromil sodium 1% nasal spray in 29 patients (14 males and 15 females, mean age 23 years) who had been suffering from seasonal allergic rhinitis due to Parietaria for at least three years. BACKGROUND: There is no previous report of Cupressaceae pollinosis in the Madrid area.
OBJECTIVE: To ascertain the presence of Cupressaceae pollinosis in the Madrid area.
METHODS: Thirty-six patients were studied who had winter pollinosis symptoms and a positive skin test to C. arizonica. INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Profilin is a panallergen contained in pollen, plant foods and latex. Although cross-reactivity is expected while performing skin prick tests (SPT) with allergens that contain profilin, this is not always noticed. The purpose of this study was to detect if profilin is contained in the commercial SPT extracts of pollen and plant foods which, in their fresh form, contain determined epitopes of profilin.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Commercial SPT extracts of different pharmaceuticals were analyzed using sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).

Fifteen asthmatic patients sensitized to Parietaria pollen were studied. Olea Europaea is the most important allergenic tree in Southern Italy and in the Naples area. Its pollination period lasts from the middle of April to the end of June. Asthmatic bronchial inflammation is associated with increased nitric oxide concentrations in exhaled air (eNO). Recent data suggest that this effect arises from atopy.
