Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor mimicking a lateral periodontal cyst - A rare case report in the mandible.

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) is benign tumor of the oral cavity characterized by its slow growth accounting to 3%-7% of the odontogenic tumors. AOTs mostly occur in the maxillary anterior region and most often than not associated with impacted anterior teeth. It affects the younger age group, especially below 20 years and is commonly seen in females. It occurs as two main variants - (a) central/intraosseous which is more common and (b) peripheral which is rare. The location of the lesion, its association with the impacted tooth, is the basis for the classification of AOT. The intraosseo

Uncommon fusion of teeth and lateral periodontal cyst in a Chinese girl: a case report.

Fusion is a developmental anomaly of dental hard tissues. Most cases occur in the anterior region of both the primary and permanent dentitions. Occasionally, fusion of permanent and supernumerary teeth may occur in the maxillary anterior region; however, a supernumerary tooth fused with a premolar is a rare case. Developmental lateral periodontal cyst is also an uncommon developmental odontogenic cyst with no clinical symptoms, and the lesion is often discovered on routine radiographic examination. In the present case, we report the uncommon fusion of teeth and lateral periodontal cyst in a Ch

Use of guided tissue regeneration in the treatment of a lateral periodontal cyst with a 7-month reentry.

BACKGROUND: The lateral periodontal cyst (LPC) is an unusual cyst of odontogenic origin, most frequently encountered in the mandible between the roots of canines and premolars. The most common treatment for LPC is surgical enucleation. This article reports a case of an LPC treated with guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and bone allograft. METHODS: A 74-year-old woman presented for periodontal examination. Radiographs revealed a cystic lesion with LPC characteristics. After surgical incisions and flap reflection, the cyst was removed and sent for biopsy. Because of the anatomy of the resulting

Bacterial genera in the fluids from apical periodontitis-related radicular cysts: An observational study.

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate bacteriome profiles (diversity, composition and relative abundances of bacterial genera) of the fluids from apical periodontitis (AP)-related radicular cysts (RCs). METHODOLOGY: This observational study included 29 patients with AP and RC with complete sample triplets (supragingival plaque, cryopulverized tooth and cystic fluid). The bacteriome profiles of each matrix as well as of negative controls (NCs) were examined using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. RESULTS: Bacteriome profiles of cystic fluids differed from NCs in 79% of cases. The number of distinct a

[A clinical x-ray evaluation of the efficacy of hydroxyapatite with collagen in treating periodontitis and radicular cysts].

One-year follow-up of 20 patients with radicular cysts and 16 ones with medium-severity chronic periodontitis demonstrated the efficacy of hydroxylapatite with collagen. Active formation of osseous tissue at the site of cysts, in the periodontal osseous pockets, and at the apexes of interdental septa was observed 6 to 7 months after the treatment.

Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Review of the literature and report of a case associated with an apical periodontal cyst.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma arising centrally within the jaws is a rare lesion which exhibits considerable histologic variability and an unpredictable clinical course. Its specific pathogenesis is unknown, although speculation has centered on the pluripotential capabilities of the epithelial lining of odontogenic cysts. The case presented here illustrates the relationship of such a lesion arising from the cyst wall of an apical periodontal cyst.

Botryoid odontogenic cyst. Exploration of proliferative activity, apoptosis and expression of TP53 and BCL2 compared to the histologically identical lateral periodontal and gingival cysts.

The botryoid odontogenic cyst (BOC) is a rare, locally more aggressive variant of the usually indolent lateral periodontal cyst (LPC) and gingival cyst (GC). A recent case of BOC provided an opportunity for an exploratory study on the causes of its more aggressive behavior. The limited objective was to see if the BOC was sufficiently different from the other cysts to warrant an investment in a large study. Sections of neutral buffered formalin fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues from the BOC and archival specimens of four GCs, four LPCs and three odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) were stained using

Odontogenic keratocystic can be misdiagnosed for a lateral periodontal cyst when the clinical and radiographical findings are similar.

Lateral periodontal cyst (LPC) and odontogenic keratocystic (OK) are two osteolytic lesions of the jaw with different local invasiveness and percentage of recurrence. The aim of this study was to highlight the attention on the differential diagnosis of these lesions that sometimes can have unexpected location and can lead doubts on diagnosis, therapy, and follow-up. A 34-year-old man presented to our department with a complaint of soft pain in the vestibular aspect of left mandibular second premolar and left mandibular first molar. Vital teeth in the left mandible, no mucosal swelling, and no

Immunohistochemical profile of the anti-apoptosis, apoptosis and proliferation markers Bcl-2, caspase-3, p53, and Ki-67 in botryoid odontogenic cysts compared to lateral periodontal cysts and gingival cysts of the adult.

We investigated the differences in growth and rates of recurrence of the botryoid odontogenic cyst (BOC) and the less aggressive lateral periodontal cyst (LPC) and gingival cyst of the adult (GCA). We compared the immunohistochemical expression of selected biomarkers of apoptosis and proliferation and of regulators of their activity. Sections from archival paraffin blocks of 15 BOCs, six GCAs, six LPCs, and three odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) were processed for immunohistochemical localization of Bcl-2, caspase-3, p53 and Ki-67. Labeled and unlabeled epithelial cells were counted and differen

Lateral Periodontal Cyst Treated with Enucleation and Guided Bone Regeneration: A Report of a Case and a Review of Pertinent Literature.

Lateral periodontal cyst (LPC) is an uncommon developmental odontogenic cyst arising on the lateral surface of tooth roots. Commonly reported in mandibular canine-premolar or maxillary anterior regions, it presents as a well-circumscribed or tear drop-shaped radiolucency with a sclerotic border. Associated teeth are asymptomatic and vital, and roots may be displaced without resorption. Histopathologically, cystic lining resembles reduced enamel epithelium along with glycogen-rich clear cells and epithelial plaques. Unilateral variant of LPC has low recurrence and is managed by enucleation. A 4

[A technic for performing tooth-preserving operations in treating radicular cysts and chronic periodontitis of the permanent teeth in children and adolescents].

A high incidence of complications developing during and after removal of teeth with chronic periodontitis and radicular cysts has made the dentists resort to conservative surgical methods of treatment of such conditions. These methods are replantation, resection of radical apex, hemisection, radicular amputation, granulectomy, crown-radicular separation, crown-radicular amputation, hemireplantation, and inter-radicular granulectomy. The technique of such treatment is described in detail. Conservative surgical methods of treatment include the following stages: (1) conservative therapy; (2) surg

Surgical Approach to Managing an Apical Periodontal Cyst Using Titanium-Activated Platelet-Rich Fibrin (T-PRF) in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report.

This case report discusses the surgical management of an apical periodontal cyst in a 14-year-old male patient presenting with pain in the upper anterior jaw. The patient had a history of trauma to the upper anterior teeth, leading to the development of a radicular cyst involving teeth 11 and 12. The treatment plan included initial root canal therapy followed by surgical enucleation of the cyst, apicoectomy, and retrograde filling of the affected teeth. Titanium-activated platelet-rich fibrin (T-PRF) membranes were utilized along with an osseo-bone graft to promote healing and bone regeneratio

Management of a deeply impacted mandibular third molar and associated large dentigerous cyst to avoid nerve injury and improve periodontal healing: case report.

As dentigerous cysts increase in size, the risk of postsurgical complications increases as well. Emphasis is usually placed on the risk of neurologic damage caused by trauma during and after surgical removal and of mandibular fracture resulting from the large residual bone defect. However, influence on the periodontal status of neighbouring teeth should also be taken into account. In this article, we present an interdisciplinary, safe, minimally invasive approach to treating large dentigerous cysts associated with deeply impacted third molars. A dentigerous cyst is an epithelial-lined patholog

[Comparative characteristics of long-term results of using bioplant and colapol-KP3 and methods of managing bone wounds under a blood clot in surgical treatment of chronic periodontitis and periradicular cysts].

Use of colapol-KPZ manufactured by Polistom Firm (Moscow) in operations on the jaw bones (resection of the root apex, cystectomy) promoted a 1.75 times sooner repair of the bone than bioplant. In addition, colapol-KPZ prevented postoperative complications and relapses. Filling of bone defect with blood clot in resections of large cysts (a zone of 2 and more teeth) is ineffective, as it decelerates bone regeneration and leads to relapses in remote periods after surgery.

The gut-liver axis in cirrhosis: bacterial translocation, immune dysregulation, and the impact of microbiota in diverse aetiologies.

This article describes an unusual clinical-radiographic presentation of a lateral periodontal cyst, as a differential diagnosis of a residual cyst, following the 'CARE guidelines for case reports'. The radiolucent lesion was identified on the imaging exam of a 53-year-old male patient. Based on radiographic findings and aspiration puncture, the probable diagnosis was a residual cyst; however, histological analysis revealed a thin, non-inflamed fibrous capsule covered by some epithelial layers in most of the lesion. The definitive diagnosis was a lateral periodontal cyst with unusual clinical a
