Dental implants are widely used in the rehabilitation of patients with edentulous jaws caused by periodontitis. The success of implants is closely related to their framework material and patients' periodontal health. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a kind of high polymer material that has broad prospects as the framework for full-arch dental prostheses, but long-term follow-up data are lacking. The present clinical report demonstrates the use of a PEEK framework for the construction of an implant-supported full-arch fixed dental prosthesis for a patient diagnosed with periodontitis. INTRODUCTION: The implant disease risk assessment (IDRA) tool was designed to assess an individual's risk of developing peri-implant diseases by evaluating and integrating multiple risk factors. This study aimed to evaluate the IDRA tool to determine the risk of developing peri-implant disease in patients rehabilitated with dental implants.
METHODS: A retrospective observational cross-sectional study was conducted, collecting data from 92 patients with 92 selected dental implants. Data included the history of periodontitis, sites with bleeding on probing (BoP), teeth and/or implants with prob

According to epidemiologic data patients with epilepsy generally have more caries, more missing teeth and worse periodontal status than the normal population. Epilepsy patients have a great risk of injury during their seizures or aspiration of foreign bodies such as removable dental prosthesis or fragments of prosthesis. Fixed dental replacements are therefore recommended to reduce this risk. In cases where the anatomic restrictions enable only a conventional removable prosthesis, an implant prosthetic treatment offers helpful alternative for the epileptic patient. The implant prosthetic treat

Complex periprosthetic cases are considered as challenges by clinicians. Clinical and radiographic parameters should be considered separately to make the right choice between an endodontically or periodontally compromised treated tooth and implant. Therefore, in order to decide whether the tooth is safe or not, data that have to be collected are specific parameters of both the patient and the clinician. In addition, the presence of periodontal, prosthetic, and orthodontic diseases requires patients to be set in multidisciplinary approach. The aim of this case report is to describe how the mult

Periodontal diseases result in damage and destruction of the supporting structures of the teeth, including the bone and periodontal ligament. In some cases, there is loss of gingival coverage of the teeth in esthetic regions, with gingival recession and loss of interdental papilla. The surgical treatment in such situations is costly, requires prolonged healing time, and the results are often unpredictable; this makes it an unpopular choice. The reconstruction of these areas with prosthesis like gingival veneer can be useful to correct the deformities remaining after the control of periodontal

Staging the extraction of selected teeth in a periodontally compromised patient during complete mouth rehabilitation has advantages, including avoiding a transitional complete denture, keeping the patient with a fixed prosthesis throughout the treatment without the need to immediately load the implants, maintaining the interdental papillae, and providing comfort for the patient. The need for a multistep extended treatment and additional cost are the main disadvantage of this approach. This clinical report describes the clinical steps and follow-up of a staging approach and implant placement in

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate patient-related and prosthetic factors associated with peri-implant marginal bone loss (MBL) in patients receiving supportive periodontal therapy (SPT).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included patients who underwent implant treatment and continued SPT for at least 10 years. MBL was evaluated using standardized dental radiographs obtained at baseline (1 year after prosthesis placement) and at follow-up (over 10 years after baseline). Patient-related factors (age, sex, history of diabetes mellitus, history of periodontitis, pla

We describe the management and 3-year outcome of a fractured pterygomaxillary implant in a full-arch maxillary rehabilitation. A 48-year-old man with severe periodontitis and bruxism received a six implant full-arch prosthesis, including two pterygomaxillary implants. One year post-delivery, the prosthesis fractured. Radiographic examination revealed fracture at the apical third of the right pterygomaxillary implant. Coronal fragment and prosthesis were removed, apical fragment was retained because of its anatomical position. To restore posterior support, a short implant was placed using trans

We report a case of generalized aggressive periodontitis (AgP) requiring periodontal treatment including flap surgery and ridge augmentation. The patient was a 39-year-old woman who presented with the chief complaint of pus discharge from tooth #36. No other obvious signs of gingival inflammation were observed. Periodontal examination revealed multiple sites with a probing depth of ≥10 mm. Radiography showed pro-nounced bone defects in the maxillary incisors and molar region. Real-time PCR was used to detect Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Tannerella forsyt

Routine preventive or restorative dental procedures (or both) may be compromised, deferred, or even denied to patients with exceptional problems that complicate treatment. Perforations of the hard palate require temporary obturation while the patient receives routine dental care such as prophylaxis, periodontic treatment, restorative dentistry, and repair or modification of an existing prosthesis. Temporary obturation, using an adhesive peristomal covering has been a helpful adjunct to prevent the dehydrating of a patient's nasal tissues, to facilitate the patient's speech and deglutition, and

BACKGROUND: Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome (PLS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by palmoplantar keratoderma and rapidly progressive periodontitis, resulting in early tooth loss and severe alveolar bone resorption. Prosthetic rehabilitation in such patients remains a significant clinical challenge due to compromised bone support and functional limitations. This report aims to evaluate the effectiveness of zygomatic implants as part of a multidisciplinary approach for oral rehabilitation in a patient with PLS.
METHODS: A 17-year-old female with a confirmed diagnosis of PLS pres

OBJECTIVES: Cardiovascular diseases remain a global health priority, with oral health linked to cardiovascular risk. However, existing studies have mainly focused on limited periodontal measures and lack analyses of multidimensional oral health.
METHODS: Using data from 4670 participants in the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort, this cross-sectional study employed an exposure-wide analysis to systematically examine associations between multidimensional oral health indicators and cardiovascular disease-related outcomes, and to exploratorily assess the role of blood and urine-based biomarkers as potent

Background/Objectives: Patients undergoing antiresorptive therapy were evaluated, focusing on clinical and radiological features and their relationship with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Methods: Patients were allocated to two groups: MRONJ (n = 27) and non-MRONJ (n = 139). Clinical evaluation included decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT), number of teeth, periodontal status, prosthesis use, and preventive/therapeutic measures. Imaging analysis included panoramic radiography (PAN) and cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) to assess MRONJ-related signs. Results: T

Hemisection of a molar denotes removal or separation of a root along with its accompanying part of crown. It is a suitable treatment option when the caries, resorption, perforation, or periodontal damage is restricted to one root while the other root is relatively healthy. Hemisection of the affected tooth helps to retain the tooth structure, surrounding alveolar bone, and may also facilitate the placement of fixed prosthesis. This case report describes the hemisection as a successful treatment method to save a grossly carious mandibular first molar with periodontal and periapical involvement.

The time elapsed between a trauma and tooth replantation usually ranges from 1 to 4 h. The chances of root surface damage are higher when tooth replantation is not performed immediately or if the avulsed tooth is not stored in an adequate medium. This invariably leads to necrosis of pulp tissue, periodontal ligament cells and cementum, thus increasing the possibility of root resorption, which is the main cause of loss of replanted teeth. This paper presents a comprehensive review of literature on root surface treatments performed in cases of delayed tooth replantation with necrotic cemental pe
