This study aimed to investigate the knowledge and clinical skills of pre-hospital emergency personnel in providing obstetric services, offering an integrated overview of the current state at the Tehran Emergency Center. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted in March 2022 at the Tehran Emergency Center. A total of 97 pre-hospital emerg

Testing and Clinical Management of Health Care Personnel Potentially Exposed to Hepatitis C Virus - CDC Guidance, United States, 2020.

Exposure to hepatitis viruses is a recognized occupational risk for health care personnel (HCP). This report establishes new CDC guidance that includes recommendations for a testing algorithm and clinical management for HCP with potential occupational exposure to hepatitis C virus (HCV). Baseline testing of the source patient and HCP should be performed as soon as possible (preferably within 48 hours) after the exposure. A source patient refers to any person receiving health care services whose blood or other potentially infectious material is the source of the HCP's exposure. Two options are

Assessment of cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills using a clinical simulation approach among emergency medical personnel of the Kerman Emergency and Incident Management Center.

BACKGROUND: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) remains a major public health and emergency medical challenge worldwide, with generally poor survival outcomes. The quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) provided by prehospital emergency personnel plays a critical role in improving outcomes. This study aimed to assess basic and advanced CPR skills among operational staff of the Kerman Emergency and Incident Management Center using a clinical simulation-based approach. METHODS: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 267 operational personnel, including emergency me

Validity of a Questionnaire Assessing Preparedness and Self-Reported Confidence of Lebanese Emergency Department Personnel in Managing Ophthalmic Emergencies and Mass Ocular Trauma.

BACKGROUND: Ophthalmic emergencies constitute a significant portion of emergency department (ED) visits; yet, many non-ophthalmologists report feeling underprepared for their management. In Lebanon, mass-casualty events like the 2020 Beirut Port Blast have further highlighted the critical need for structured assessment of personnel preparedness in managing ocular trauma. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of a novel questionnaire designed to measure the self-reported preparedness and confidence of ED personnel and first responders in managing acute ocular emergencies. How can Blood Flow Restriction Exercise be Utilised for the Management of Persistent Pain Following Complex Injuries in Military Personnel? A Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND: Persistent pain is a complicated phenomenon associated with a wide array of complex pathologies and conditions (e.g., complex regional pain syndrome, non-freezing cold injury), leading to extensive disability and reduced physical function. Conventional resistance training is commonly contraindicated in load compromised and/or persistent pain populations, compromising rehabilitation progression and potentially leading to extensive pharmacological intervention, invasive procedures, and reduced occupational status. The management of persistent pain and utility of adjunct therapies has

A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial of Goal Management Training in Canadian Military Members, Veterans, and Public Safety Personnel Experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Symptoms.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe psychiatric illness that disproportionately affects military personnel, veterans, and public safety personnel (PSP). Evidence demonstrates that PTSD is significantly associated with difficulties with emotion regulation (ER) and difficulties with cognitive functioning, including difficulties with attention, working memory, and executive functioning. A wide body of evidence suggests a dynamic interplay among cognitive dysfunction, difficulties with ER, and symptoms of PTSD, where numerous studies have identified overlapping patterns of alteration

Concordance Study of Diagnoses and Therapeutic Management for Military Personnel Evacuated for Medico-psychological Reasons: From the Theater of Operations to the Military Training Hospital.

INTRODUCTION: The evolving global landscape has led to increased involvement of the French armed forces, exposing military personnel to operational challenges that can affect their mental well-being. As a result, psychiatry has become the second most common reason for Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC). In war zones where specialized medico-psychological consultations may not be readily available, medical officers play a vital role in providing initial care. Therefore, there is a growing emphasis on the precise evaluation of these practices. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective observationa

[Input of a laboratory in the management of patients with Ebola virus disease and in the training of health personnel: experience of the Forecariah Ebola treatment centre (Guinea) in 2015].

Ebola virus disease (EVD) is associated with a high lethality rate even when the afflicted are provided with good support in an Ebola treatment center (ETC). Basic laboratory tests can help to better understand the pathophysiology of the disease, to guide treatment and to establish simple protocols and procedures tailored to the practice of medicine in the context of such precarious environment for caregivers. Based on a few clinical cases of patients treated in the ETC of Forecariah, Guinea, run by the French Red Cross, this article describes the difficult conditions associated with the provi

Lessons from healthcare personnel screening and management during H1N1 pandemic in preparation for the impending COVID-19 pandemic in a tertiary care hospital in India.

BACKGROUND: In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic caused by a novel corona virus, health care personnel are at increased risk of acquiring the infection. In preparation for the management of health care personnel that are likely to be infected, we looked in to the data collected during the Influenza pandemic in 2009, caused by a novel strain of H1N1 influenza called swine flu. The care of healthcare personnel in our institution, who had an acute febrile respiratory illness (AFRI) during that period was routed through a single channel using a uniform protocol. We retrospectively analysed the ava

How 'Cracks' in Canada's Public Services System Manifested as Moral (Di)Stress or Resilience for Emergency Management Personnel During COVID-19: A Critical Realist Study.

Organizations ought to demonstrate a responsibility for conditions that reduce moral stress and enhance moral resilience for their employees. No literature to date has explored how Emergency Management Personnel (EMP) experience both moral stress and distress [(di)stress], building up to stigma during health crises, given their role in emergency management operations. This study draws from a primary study of EMP, including frontline and first responders and those in leadership, who reported structural stigma during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our research question was, In what ways did structural s

The Application of Military Mandibular Third Molar Guidelines in the Operative Management of Mandibular Third Molars in United Kingdom Armed Forces Personnel Diagnosed with Pericoronitis: A Service Evaluation.

INTRODUCTION: This service evaluation (SE) sought to determine if United Kingdom Armed Forces (UKAF) personnel diagnosed with pericoronitis were treated in line with Defence Guidance and Policy documents. United Kingdom Armed Forces Policy states pericoronitis should be managed in a proactive manner and all mandibular third molars (M3M) should be considered for extraction after a single episode of infection. An additional objective was to establish waiting times for M3M referrals to both Tier 2 (practice based) and 3 (hospital) providers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five hundred forty-five attenda
