Evaluation of the antiulcer effects of a series of 2-piperidineethylesters of o-alkoxy-substituted phenylcarbamic acids were performed using two experimental models of gastric ulcers, e.g. induced by stress or by ligation of the pylor. Conditions for separation of enantiomers of a mandelic acid derivative, methyl 2-phenyl-2-(tetrahydropyranyloxy) acetate (the analyte) were studied. In this paper, we describe the direct semipreparative resolution of racemic (rac)-propranolol hydrochloride by high-performance liquid chromatography using cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) as chiral stationary phase and mobile phase systems containing petroleum ether and 2-propanol with the use of basic additives.
