In a group of patients suffering from common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), levels of interleukin-6 (IL6) were measured and found to be in the normal range or even increased, for single patients. A method to preserve stained human lymphocytes for subsequent cell surface analysis by flow cytometry (FCM) is described. Cells stained with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) and phycoerythrin (PE)-conjugated monoclonal antibodies and then fixed in 1% paraformaldehyde, followed by extensive washing and resuspension in 1% BSA medium, could be stored at 4 degrees C for at least 2 weeks prior to FCM analysis without significant alteration in the light scatter or fluorescence properties of the cells. Anti-IgA may cause anaphylactic transfusion reactions in IgA-deficient individuals. Testing for IgG anti-IgA is useful to identify persons at risk. This report describes an immunoassay for anti-IgA that uses polyclonal IgA coupled to fluorescent microspheres as an immunosorbent. Anti-IgA is detected by phycoerythrin-labeled anti-IgG. The expression of interleukin 4 (IL-4) receptors on resting T and B lymphocytes was enhanced 4- to 8-fold by IL-4 stimulation of these cells. BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa is a skin disease of recurrent episodes of inflammatory nodules, abscesses, and scarring of the intertriginous regions, e.g. the axillae and groin. This study developed an integrated process combining green NaCl-assisted freeze/thaw extraction with Refractance Window (RW) drying technology to produce phycocyanin-rich powder from Spirulina platensis for application as a natural colorant in set-type yoghurt. Cryptosporidium parvum is transmitted through water and can cause severe diarrhea. The diagnosis is usually based upon observer-dependent microscopic detection of oocysts, with rather low sensitivity and specificity. Lymphocytes from eight patients with adult T-cell leukemia were analyzed by two color flow cytometry. Monoclonal antibodies (Leu 3 a, Leu 8, Leu 2 a and Leu 15) labelled with fluorescein isothiocyanate or phycoerythrin were used.
