BACKGROUND: Improvement in skin luminosity and dyschromia such as postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and actinic photodamage are leading causes for cosmetic consultation. Formulation of topical at home treatment is challenging, using a range of modalities, to help hinder or prevent inflammatory mediators without further irritating the skin. Glycolic acid is a known antioxidant; in various free acid levels, it has been introduced as a topical therapy aimed at reducing pigmentation and improving skin texture, tone, and luminosity.
METHODS: In a 12-week clinical study, a novel, topical fac

To address the current development requirements for multifunctional cotton fabrics, a phytic acid-induced flame-retardant hydrophobic coating containing nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and silicon (Si) was grafted on the surface of cotton fabrics using a facile step-by-step immersion method. The limiting oxygen index value improved to 31.2 %, decreasing to 26.7 % after 50 laundering cycles, while the fabric remained self-extinguishing effect in the vertical flammability test and showed a water contact angle of 126.1°. Cone calorimetry test showed that the modified fabric could not be ignited at

Phospholipids and phytic acid are important phosphorus (P)-containing compounds in rice grains. Phytic acid is considered as a major antinutrient, because the negatively charged phytic acid chelates cations, including essential micronutrients, and decreases their bioavailability to human beings and monogastric animals. To gain an insight into the interplay of these two kinds of phosphorus-containing metabolites, we used the CRISPR/Cas9 system to generate mutants of a phospholipase D gene (OsPLDα1) and analyzed the mutational effect on metabolites, including phytic acid in rice grains. Metaboli

To retard the deterioration of texture and color of ready-to-eat (RTE) shrimps during storage, phytic acid (PA) and lactic acid (LA) were used to soak the shrimp prior to cooking. The factors affecting texture (water holding capacity, protein oxidation and degradation, and microstructure) and color (Maillard reaction and lipid oxidation) were determined separately. The free radical and copper ion content were also determined in order to investigate the regulation mechanism of phytic acid and lactic acid on the texture and color of RTE shrimps. It was found that the inhibitor-treated RTE shrimp

This study investigated phytic acid (IP6) effect on chemical, structural, and mechanical characteristics of nickel-titanium (NiTi) files. The tested files were equally divided into groups according to the immersion protocol: sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), IP6, EDTA followed by NaOCl, and IP6 followed by NaOCl. These groups were then compared in terms of Ni, Ti, and chromium (Cr) ions release from the files. Microstructural changes using field emission scanning electron microscope (Fe-SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and surface roughness

The use of in vivo models to assess nephrotoxicity has faced ethical limitations. A viable alternative is the ex vivo model that combines the 3 R principles with the preservation of tissue histology. Here, we established a gentamicin nephrotoxicity model using pigs` kidney explants and investigated the effect of phytic acid (IP6) against gentamicin- induced nephrotoxicity. A total of 360 kidney explants were divided into control, gentamicin (10 mM), IP6 (5 mM), and gentamicin+IP6 groups. The activity of gammaglutamyltransferase (GGT), creatinine levels, histological assessment, oxidative stres

OBJECTIVE: We explored the effects of fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) and phytic acid (PA) on the absorption of minerals and their interaction.
METHODS: A 3 x 2 factorial experiment was designed to evaluate the effects of FOS (in the presence or absence of PA) on the apparent absorption rate of minerals and the mineral status (plasma, hepatic, and bone) in mice. Sixty Kun-Ming mice were randomized into six groups: basal diet group; basal diet+1% PA group (PA); basal diet+0.8 g/kg of body weight FOS group (FOS1); FOS1+1% PA group (FOS1+PA); basal diet+2.5 g/kg of body weight group (FOS2); and FO

AIMS: Phytic acid, a major constituent of cereals, pulses, and seeds has been advocated as an important antioxidant component of dietary fibre that affords possible protection against colorectal cancer. This is supported by experimental studies showing it has antineoplastic activity in animal models of both colon and breast cancer. To date the concentration of faecal phytic acid in human clinical groups has not been evaluated. Therefore the faecal phytic acid content of adenoma patients drawn from a placebo controlled calcium intervention trial was evaluated.
METHODS: Phytic acid was measured

Although significant advances have been achieved in the biofortification of common beans to overcome deficiencies in Zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe), the mechanisms involved remain poorly understood. We thus explored the relationships between phosphorus nutrition and Zn and Fe accumulation in four bean genotypes (Edar, Nizok, Colorado and Chimbolos) that nominally show differences in seed Fe and Zn accumulation. In contrast to other genotypes, while phosphorus availability had no effect on seed Fe accumulation, phosphorus and phytate levels were decreased in all lines under phosphorus deficiency. Edar

Uncontrolled hemorrhage is a major cause of mortality in traumatic injuries, necessitating the development of efficient and biocompatible hemostatic materials suitable for clinical and emergency applications. Herein, we report a phytic acid (PA)-coordinated, dual-network injectable hydrogel composed of magnesium polyacrylate (PAMg), carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), and PA. The hydrogel is formed through both chemical and physical crosslinking, including covalent bonding, ionic interactions, and metal-ligand coordination, resulting in enhanced mechanical integrity, injectability, and biological p

Iron deficiency and anemia are common in low- and middle-income countries. This is due to a poor dietary iron density and low iron absorption resulting from the high inhibitory phytic acid content in cereal and millet-based diets. Here, we report that a naturally occurring low phytic acid finger millet accession (571 mg 100 g-1), stable across three growing seasons with normal iron content (3.6 mg 100 g-1), increases iron absorption by 3-folds in normal Indian women. The accessions differing in grain phytic acid content, GE 2358 (low), and GE1004 (high) were selected from a core collection of

Flame retardant systems based on bio-sourced products combine quite high fire performances with the low environmental impact related to their synthesis and exploitation. In this context, this work describes a new all bio-sourced flame retardant system designed and applied to cotton fabrics. In particular, it consists of phytic acid (PA), a phosphorus-based naturally occurring molecule extracted from different plant tissues, in combination with biochar (BC), a carbon-rich solid product obtained from the thermo-chemical conversion of biomasses in an oxygen-limited environment. PA and BC were mix

Although oral administration is favorable mode of insulin delivery, it is the most challenging route, owing to poor oral bioavailability. In this study, a chitosan (CS)-based insulin delivery system was developed by ionic crosslinking with phytic acid (PA). CS-PA microspheres were optimized with different crosslinking conditions of CS and PA using response surface methodology to retain insulin during preparation and gastric digestion. Furthermore, the in vitro release profile, morphological structure, cytotoxicity, and intestinal permeability of the optimized microspheres, and its hypoglycemic

Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus) is a plant pathogenic fungus that produces toxic and carcinogenic aflatoxins, posing a threat to food safety and human health. As a kind of food additive, phytic acid (PA) exhibits excellent antimicrobial activity. However, the antifungal effects of PA against A. flavus are not well understood. Here, transcriptomic and biochemical analyses were carried out to investigate the inhibitory effects of PA against A. flavus and potential mechanisms. Our findings demonstrated that PA effectively inhibited the vegetative growth, conidiation and aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) product

Phytic acid (PA), [myo-inositol 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexakisphosphate] is the principal storage compound of phosphorus (P) and account for 65%-85% of the seeds total P. The negative charge on PA attracts and chelates metal cations resulting in a mixed insoluble salt, phytate. Phytate contains six negatively charged ions, chelates divalent cations such as Fe2+, Zn2+, Mg2+, and Ca2+ rendering them unavailable for absorption by monogastric animals. This may lead to micronutrient deficiencies in humans since they lack the enzyme phytase that hydrolyzes phytate and releases the bound micronutrients. There a

Lupin proteins have repeatedly been shown to exhibit lipid lowering properties and reduce aortic calcification in atherosclerosis models. Despite many efforts on its identification, the component which is responsible for the observed effects is still under debate. Phytic acid which is generally associated with lupin protein isolates has currently been described as bioactive plant compound. The objective of the study was to determine the role of associated phytic acid for the described lupin protein effects. A two-factorial study with ApoE knockout mice was conducted in which mice received lupi

A fully natural polysaccharide-based hydrogel with tunable mechanical and electrical properties was developed by introducing phytic acid (PA) into a dynamic Schiff-base network formed between chitosan (CS) and oxidized sodium alginate (OSA), using a simple and scalable post-treatment strategy. Unlike conventional methods that require complex chemical modifications or synthetic conductive additives, this approach leverages the inherent multifunctionality of PA to simultaneously achieve structural reinforcement and ionic conductivity enhancement through a single, mild, and chemical-free immersio

In this work, chitosan (CS) was used as the skeleton to synthesize flame-retardant composite cryogels. Phytic acid (PA)-modified Zr-based metal-organic framework (PA-UiO-66-NH2) was integrated into the CS network to enhance flame retardant performance. The vertical combustion test (UL-94) grade was V-0, and the limiting oxygen index (LOI) value reached 39 % when the flame retardant (PA-UiO-66-NH2) addition content was 15 %. Cone calorimetry tests demonstrated that the inclusion of PA-UiO-66-NH2 significantly decreased the heat release and smoke generation, facilitating the formation of a compa
