BACKGROUND: High levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in leukocyte- and platelet-rich plasma (L-PRP) may activate the nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) pathway to counter the beneficial effect of the growth factors on bone regeneration. However, to date, no relevant studies have substantiated this.
METHODS: L-PRP and pure platelet-rich plasma (P-PRP) were isolated. The in vitro effects of L-PRP and P-PRP on the proliferation, viability and migration of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (HBMSCs) and EaHy926, tube formation of EaHy926, and osteogenic differentiation of HBMSCs were assess

This systematic review evaluates the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) for periorbital rejuvenation, updating a previous 2021 review. Twenty-six studies were included with notable variability in preparation methods limiting clear conclusions. Patient satisfaction was high with PRP/PRF treatment, which was only moderately effective for periorbital hyperpigmentation, and objective improvements for wrinkles and skin texture were mixed. Clinical use is described.

BACKGROUND: Melasma is a common acquired pigmentary disorder that predominantly affects women with darker skin types and substantially impairs quality of life. Current treatments are limited by variable efficacy, adverse effects, and frequent recurrence. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a potential regenerative treatment through growth-factor-mediated modulation of melanogenesis. Photothermal activation, which combines photobiomodulation with controlled hypothermic conditioning, has been hypothesized to promote a more sustained growth-factor release than conventional PRP. This study c

INTRODUCTION: The use of biologic and pharmacologic intra-articular injections for knee osteoarthritis (OA) is common for symptomatic OA, but the long-term efficacy of platelet-based therapies compared with corticosteroid injections is still controversial. Leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma (LP-PRP), leukocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma (LR-PRP), injectable platelet-rich fibrin (iPRF), and intra-articular corticosteroids were not different in their clinical efficacy in treating knee OA with Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) Grade 2-3.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a widely used autologous treatment for tendon injuries in clinics. Platelets (PLTs) are a major source of high mobility group box1 (HMGB1) that is gaining attention as a chemoattractant that can recruit stem cells to the wound area to enhance healing of injured tissues; however, the contribution of PLT HMGB1 in wounded tendon healing remains unexplored. This study investigated the effect of PLT HMGB1 within PRP on tendon healing using PLT HMGB1 knockout (KO) and GFP mice. A window defect was created in the patellar tendons of both groups of mice, and wounds were t

Despite significant advances in the understanding and delivery of osteosynthesis, fracture non-union remains a challenging clinical problem in orthopaedic surgery. To bridge the gap, basic science characterization of fracture healing provides a platform to identify and target biological strategies to enhance fracture healing. Of immense interest, Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a point of care orthobiologic that has been extensively studied in bone and soft tissue healing given its relative ease of translation from the benchtop to the clinic. The aim of this narrative review is to describe and r

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) use in urogynecology is expanding as it shows good results with minimal side effects. We present three new indications of PRP use in urogynecology that have not been previously reported. Our case series demonstrated that PRP improved wound healing and recovery in a woman with chronic obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS) after home delivery, decreased pain in a patient suffering from vulvodynia, and enhanced epithelization in recurrent vaginal stenosis after Fournier gangrene. We have also reviewed patient selection criteria, PRP preparation prerequisites, and te

Regenerative medicine combines elements of tissue engineering and molecular biology aiming to support the regeneration and repair processes of damaged tissues, cells and organs. The most commonly used preparation in regenerative medicine is platelet rich plasma (PRP) containing numerous growth factors present in platelet granularities. This therapy is increasingly used in various fields of medicine. This article is a review of literature on the use of PRP in gynecology and obstetrics. There is no doubt that the released growth factors and proteins have a beneficial effect on wound healing and

Lateral epicondylitis (LE) is often considered an inflammatory disease characterized by tendon microtears that are followed by an incomplete reparative response that leads to chronic pain and decreased function on the upper extremity. A modality that is commonly used for the treatment of LE is the injection of corticosteroids. Evidence supports corticosteroid injections to be an effective short-term intervention that lacks intermediate and long-term relief as well as having negative effects on tenocyte proliferation, which is essential in the tissue healing process. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
