We herein report a rare case of unresectable liposarcoma that showed a complete response to eribulin. Furthermore, a low expression of phosphorylated AKT (p-AKT) on an immunohistological evaluation was observed. This result is consistent with our previous preclinical study that demonstrated the significance of p-AKT signaling for eribulin resistance in multiple subtypes of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) cells. This case highlights the potential benefits of eribulin as well as the mechanism underlying resistance to eribulin in patients with unresectable or metastatic STS, especially liposarcoma.

The naturally occurring polyether ionophore salinomycin was previously found to display promising anti-proliferative activity against bloodstream forms of Trypanosoma brucei. Here, we report the evaluation of 20-deoxysalinomycin, a naturally occurring homolog to salinomycin, for trypanocidal and cell swelling activity. Eribulin mesylate (eribulin) is a synthetic analogue of the marine-sponge natural product halichondrin B. Pseudocirrhosis, which is radiologically and clinically similar to liver cirrhosis, may develop following chemotherapy for breast cancer with liver metastasis. There are few reports of eribulin treatment. We report 5 patients with metastatic or recurrent breast cancer who developed pseudocirrhosis during eribulin treatment. All patients had diffuse liver metastasis, and the liver metastases significantly reduced in size during the early phase of eribulin treatment, when they developed pseudocirrhosis. Subsequently, the patients had poor prognoses.
