Peptidyl transferase activity of Trypanosoma brucei brucei polyribosomes was competitively inhibited by analogs of sparsomycin (Ki = 1-100 microM). The analogs were also potent inhibitors of [3H]-leucine and [3H]mannose incorporation into the proteins of intact trypanosomes with little or no effect on overall respiratory rate, suggesting a specific site of action for these analogs on protein synthesis. Mouse testes contain several isoforms of cytoplasmic poly(A)-binding proteins (PABPCs), including ubiquitous PABPC1 and testis-specific PABPC2/PABPt. Mutant mice lacking a testis-specific cytoplasmic poly(A) polymerase, PAPOLB/TPAP, exhibit spermiogenesis arrest and male infertility. Albendazole, a benzimidazole carbamate commonly used for the treatment and control of intestinal helminthic infections, is also useful for the treatment of giardiasis. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive and devastating disorder that is often preceded by mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The present study described the normal ultrastructure of the monkey pineal gland. The gland was composed of the principal pinealocytes, intramural neurons and glial cells. The effect of cycloheximide on virus specific RNA synthesis in Vero cells infected with either wild-strain (Edmonston) or subacute sclerosing panencephalitis strain measles virus was investigated. The ribosomal antibody detected by tissue immunofluorescence in about 1% of SLE patients was conjugated with peroxidase and its antigen localized by immunoelectronmicroscopy, using rat stomach as substrate. Tetracycline (100 micrograms/g) and, to a lesser extent, doxycycline (50 and 100 micrograms/g) inhibited the aggregation of free but not of membrane-bound polysomes in the livers of female NMRI mice.
