Posttraumatic growth after perinatal loss: A systematic review.

Perinatal loss is a potentially painful event for parents and a grief that is often not recognised socially. Research has widely shown that grief responses can coexist with posttraumatic growth responses. The aim of this systematic review was to assess the available evidence of studies investigating posttraumatic growth in people who have suffered a perinatal loss. A search was conducted in PROQUEST and Web of Science for articles published from 2011 to 2021. After reviewing 10 selected articles, it was found that the participants showed moderate levels of posttraumatic growth, mostly in the d

Posttraumatic growth in people affected by an occupational accident: A longitudinal multilevel model of change.

This study analyzed a predictive model of posttraumatic growth (PTG) in a cohort of 244 workers affected by an occupational accident. A longitudinal design with three points in time (i.e., 1, 6, and 12 months after the accident) was used. PTG, posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), subjective severity of the event, deliberate rumination, and seeking social support were evaluated. In addition, time since the accident, age, and gender were included as predictors in our model. Deliberate rumination and seeking social support significantly predicted PTG trajectory in a multilevel model. Practical c

The roles of diabetes-specific self-compassion, affect balance, and self-care self-efficacy in psychological distress among Hong Kong patients with Type 2 diabetes.

OBJECTIVE: Patients with Type 2 diabetes (T2D) often blame themselves for their conditions and not reaching their self-management goals. Guided by the self-regulation resource model, self-compassion facilitates adjustments to chronic diseases through increasing affective and cognitive resources like positive affect and self-care self-efficacy. However, the contributions of positive and negative self-compassion (PSC and NSC) in psychological adjustment among patients with T2D have not been examined. Studies also suggest that patients with T2D experience positive changes from their illness journ

Coping strategies and psychological outcomes following the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes: a systematic review with meta-analytic synthesis.

BACKGROUND: The 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes caused unprecedented devastation across southern Türkiye, resulting in widespread psychological distress among survivors. Identifying coping strategies linked to better mental health outcomes is essential for guiding post-disaster support. OBJECTIVE: To systematically synthesize quantitative evidence on associations between coping strategies and psychological outcomes (PTSD/trauma symptoms, depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic growth [PTG]) among adult survivors of the 2023 earthquakes, and to meta-analyze associations reported in at least two

From coming to terms with the gambling problems to post-traumatic growth: A novel nine-stage theoretical model of recovery from gambling disorder.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The concept of recovery is gaining increasing relevance in gambling disorder (GD). Rooted in the users' movement, recovery is viewed as a process involving non-medical and subjective dimensions. However, qualitative research on this topic remains limited, and no consensus exists on its definition. This study aimed to develop a theoretical model of recovery, examining stages, dimensions, and conditions shaping recovery trajectories from a holistic, patient-centred perspective. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 self-defined recovered gamblers and 10

A systematic scoping review of Posttraumatic Growth following armed conflict-induced trauma.

Posttraumatic growth (PTG) is a relatively new field of study that focuses on the positive psychological changes that can occur because of traumatic events. A change in mindset has taken place, moving away from solely concentrating on the damaging effects of trauma and towards examining the possibility for positive outcomes. Mostly PTG has been well-documented across different types of traumas, such as calamities and serious illnesses, but the specific mechanisms by which it occurs in the context of armed conflict are not yet fully understood. Therefore, the current scoping review findings pre

Analysis of the Correlation between the Level of Posttraumatic Growth and Social Support among Caregivers of Children with Acute Leukemia.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

We investigate the current situation of stress burden and quality of life of primary caregivers of children with leukemia and analyze the correlation between their stress burden and quality of life, using the phenomenological research method in qualitative research. The posttraumatic growth experiences of the parents of children with leukemia included life perceptions (appreciation of life, change in priority of important things in life, and adjustment of self to reality); personal empowerment (increased sense of self-reliance and increased sense of self-achievement); and improvement of interp

The levels and related factors of posttraumatic growth among nurses: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

UNLABELLED: WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Nurses often encounter traumatic events in their clinical practice. Trauma can have both negative effects, such as post-traumatic stress disorder and positive effects, such as growth and positive emotions. Posttraumatic growth is beneficial for nurses, as it contributes to positive mental health outcomes and increases life satisfaction. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: Our study confirms that nurses commonly experience posttraumatic growth after being exposed to traumatic events, and the level of growth is moderate. We have identified indiv

Post-traumatic growth in refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide: systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Globally, millions of people are forced to flee their home nation due to war, conflict, political instability, natural disasters or persecution every year. The detrimental psychological issues that refugees experience are well established, whilst research on positive psychological well-being, such as Post-Traumatic Growth, is limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to synthesise the peer-reviewed literature which quantitatively measured PTG in refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and present factors associated with PTG in this population. Methods: The fol

A mixed methods experience sampling study of a posttraumatic growth model for addiction recovery.

Problematic substance use and addiction is a growing crisis in the United States. As a result, identifying factors that effectively promote addiction recovery is, currently, of particular societal importance. Informed by evidence that-while addiction can be perpetuated by stress-related impulsivity and decreased self-regulation-perceived social support is protective against addiction, we test a model for addiction recovery as a form of posttraumatic growth (PTG), focused specifically on close relationships and personal strength-two domains of PTG. In an initial study, we found that perceived s

Posttraumatic Growth in U.S. Military Veterans: Results from the National Health and Resilience in Veterans Study.

Despite increasing recognition that positive psychological changes or posttraumatic growth (PTG) may develop after highly stressful or traumatic events, contemporary population-based data on the epidemiology of PTG in high-risk samples such as U.S. military veterans are lacking. Additionally, in light of emerging evidence suggesting an 8-factor model of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, an up-to-date characterization of how these symptom clusters relate to PTG can help inform efforts to help promote PTG. Data were analyzed from the 2019-2020 National Health and Resilience in Veter

The effects of trait resilience and rumination on psychological adaptation to breast cancer.

This cross-sectional study examined the effect of trait resilience and specific types of rumination on positive psychological adaptation post-diagnosis among 201 breast cancer patients. They completed self-reported measures describing trait resilience, rumination, posttraumatic growth, and health-related quality of life. Hierarchical analysis showed that trait resilience significantly predicted higher quality of life and posttraumatic growth after controlling for demographic and clinical variables. Additionally, "intrusion" and "brooding" subtypes of rumination negatively predicted quality of

Considerations for Spiritually Integrated Cognitive Processing Therapy (SICPT) for PTSD and Posttraumatic Growth in Survivors of Interpersonal Trauma.

Traumatic events profoundly disrupt individuals' psychological, physical, social, and spiritual well-being; yet, they may also lead to posttraumatic growth (PTG). Spirituality has been shown to play a central role in how trauma survivors find meaning, cope, and rebuild their lives. However, most evidence-based interventions (EBIs) for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including cognitive processing therapy (CPT), often neglect spiritual and religious (RS) dimensions, limiting their relevance for spiritually oriented clients. The aim of this paper is to present a rationale for integrating s

The dynamic journey of posttraumatic growth after acute myocardial infarction: A longitudinal qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Beyond its physical threat, acute myocardial infarction acts as a potent catalyst for posttraumatic growth. Although posttraumatic growth is a well-documented phenomenon, a nuanced understanding of its dynamic evolution within specific cultural contexts remains lacking. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the process of posttraumatic growth in patients following an acute myocardial infarction and to examine how this process unfolds dynamically over time within the Chinese cultural context. METHODS: A longitudinal qualitative study design was employed. Semi-structured interview

Correlates of Posttraumatic Growth in Adult Sexual Assault Victims.

This exploratory study examined how demographics, child sexual abuse (CSA), assault-related factors, and post-assault responses predict posttraumatic growth in a diverse sample (N = 1863) of female adult sexual assault victims. Multiple regression analysis showed that demographics (older age, ethnic minority race, less education) were all significantly related to greater posttraumatic growth, while CSA was unrelated to posttraumatic growth. Assault characteristics were weaker predictors of posttraumatic growth; whereas women's perception of life threat during the assault was related to greater
