Three-dimensional printing of patient-specific models is being used in various aspects of craniomaxillofacial reconstruction. Printing is typically outsourced to off-site vendors, with the main disadvantages being increased costs and time for production. Office-based 3-dimensional printing has been proposed as a means to reduce costs and delays, but remains largely underused because of the perception among surgeons that it is futuristic, highly technical, and prohibitively expensive. The goal of this report is to demonstrate the feasibility and ease of incorporating in-office 3-dimensional pri

Scaphoid fractures are one of the most common fractures treated by hand surgeons. The complex anatomy and size of the scaphoid bone can make the reduction and fixation of these fractures technically challenging. Careful preoperative planning is required to ensure stable fixation is achieved. We report on the use of 3-dimensional printing to improve preoperative planning for a series of complex scaphoid fractures.

The use of three-dimensional (3D) printing has seen a vast expansion over recent years, with an increased application for its use in orthopaedics. This report details the use of 3D printing technology to aid in the treatment of a medial femoral condyle osteochondral defect in a 26-year-old female who had previously undergone a failed autograft procedure. A preoperative computed tomography scan of the knee and chondral defect was used to generate a 3D printed, one-to-one scale replica of the distal femur. This replica was then used to size a patient-specific allograft plug for the osteochondral

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to compare the force exerted by a three-dimensional (3D) printed modified supraglottic airway (mSGA) vs. that exerted by the i-gel on a 3D printed airway model.
METHODS: After a preliminary experiment in Thiel embalmed cadavers, we created a 3D printed mSGA and five 3D printed airway models based on computed tomography data from five female Japanese patients. We compared the force exerted by the i-gel and mSGA on the larynx of the 3D printed airway models. In addition, tidal volumes with insertion of the airway devices into the 3D printed airway model and ad

Three-dimensional (3D) modeling and printing comprise an important tool for orthopaedic surgeons. One area in which 3D modeling has the potential to dramatically improve our understanding of biomechanical kinematics is pathologies of the patellofemoral joint, in particular trochlear dysplasia. We describe a method for creating 3D printed models of the patellofemoral joint, including computed tomography image acquisition, image segmentation, model creation, and 3D printing. The models created can help surgeons understand and plan surgery for recurrent patellar dislocations.

The use of three-dimensional (3D) printing is becoming more common, including in the field of orthopaedic surgery. There are currently four primary clinical applications for 3D-printing in hip and pelvic surgeries: (i) 3D-printed anatomical models for planning and surgery simulation, (ii) patient-specific instruments (PSI), (iii) generation of prostheses with 3D-additive manufacturing, and (iv) custom 3D-printed prostheses. Simulation surgery using a 3D-printed bone model allows surgeons to develop better surgical approaches, test the feasibility of procedures and determine optimal location an

Persistent apical periodontitis even after nonsurgical retreatment demands for a surgical approach. This requires a thorough diagnosis and planning to eliminate the pathology and induce healing. This is sometimes challenging when the pathology is present in close relationship to the vital structures. In such cases, modern, sophisticated technology such as three-dimensional (3D) printing can come very handy in patient education as well as for planning and mock-up preparation of the surgery. In this case, a nonhealing persistent apical periodontitis in relation to 16 was surgically treated. Howe

We demonstrate an approach to three-dimensional (3D) printing of ice structures by exploiting evaporative cooling. A micrometer-sized water jet is used to 3D print inside a vacuum chamber. The reduced ambient pressure leads to rapid evaporation of the extruded water, extracting latent heat, and quickly cooling the water well below 0 °C. Once deposited, the water freezes almost instantaneously into stable ice structures. We achieved high-fidelity printing via two distinct deposition techniques: layer-by-layer deposition for intricate 3D structures (e.g., a Christmas tree), and support-free mid-

UNLABELLED: Three-dimensional printing (3DP) has become an established adjunct in orthopaedic surgery. Its integration into planning, education, and intraoperative execution has evolved from isolated case reports to measurable clinical outcomes. Recent research highlights reductions in operative time, blood loss, and radiation exposure when three-dimensional printed guides or models are used, with the clearest benefits in deformity correction and spinal instrumentation. Applications now extend to patient-specific instruments, custom implants, and orthotic fabrication. Emerging work on biodegra

Virtual surgical planning (VSP) in craniofacial trauma features unique challenges due to the complexity of fracture patterns and anatomic considerations. Among the most challenging tasks are segmenting trauma models, performing complex virtual reductions to restore anatomic integrity and functional occlusion, and utilizing technology to enhance surgical accuracy. The authors propose a classification model categorizing craniofacial trauma into 2 main classes: occlusion-impairing (eg, mandibular and Le Fort fractures) and occlusion-nonimpairing (eg, zygomaticomaxillary complex and orbital fractu

Additive manufacturing has significantly advanced patient-specific medical devices, particularly for hard tissue repair, yet applications in soft tissue remain limited. Existing approaches for 3D-printed soft tissue devices employ mainly biogels and bioinks for regenerative purposes, while synthetic grafts for tendons and ligaments remain non-customizable in shape and mechanics. This study investigates the mechanical performance of 3D-printed thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) elastomers as a function of printing parameters, informing customizable connective tissue graft designs. STUDY DESIGN: Systematic Review.
OBJECTIVE: 3DP technology use has become increasingly more common in the field of medicine and is notable for its growing utility in spine surgery applications. Many studies have evaluated the use of pedicle screw placement guides and spine models in adult spine patients, but there is little evidence assessing its efficacy in pediatric spine patient populations. This systematic review identifies and evaluates the current applications and surgical outcomes of 3-Dimensional Printing (3DP) technology in pediatric spinal surgery.
METHODS: A search of publications
