Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) is antidipsogenic when administered into the lateral cerebral ventricle of the rat. In these experiments PGE1, at a dose of 1 microgram, suppressed water intake induced by centrally administered angiotensin II (AII) or carbachol, subcutaneously administered polyethylene glycol, and water deprivation. Even at this high dose, PGE1 did not reduce water intake due to cellular dehydration. As the dose of PGE1 was reduced, its suppressant effects became more specific to AII-induced drinking, with a dose of 10 ng yielding a significant suppression only in the case of AII-induc

PURPOSE: To report a patient with glaucoma who developed recurrent herpetic keratitis while using two different prostaglandin analogue ophthalmic solutions.
RESULTS: A 72 year-old male patient with primary open angle glaucoma and a history of herpetic keratitis in the left eye experienced recurrent herpetic keratitis in the left eye after treatment with latanoprost ophthalmic solution. Herpetic flares were controlled after discontinuation of latanoprost. Adding travoprost ophthalmic solution 0.004% to his glaucoma therapy was also associated with a recurrence of herpetic keratitis.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the effect of topical prostaglandin analogues on agreement of IOP measurements obtained by Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT), rebound tonometry (RBT), and noncontact tonometry (NCT) in eyes with primary open- angle glaucoma (POAG).
METHODS: Intraocular pressure measurements were obtained using GAT, RBT, and NCT in patients with POAG with or without prostaglandin analogues. The agreement between each tonometry was analysed using Bland-Altman analyses in those with or without prostaglandin analogues. The effect of average IOP on IOP differences was also evaluated.

Fluid secretion from the cannulated excretory duct of the rabbit lacrimal gland was collected in microcapillary pipette at 10 min intervals. OBJECTIVE: To systematically review the efficacy and tolerability of 4 prostaglandin analogues (PGAs) as first-line monotherapies for intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering in adult patients with primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
DATA SOURCES: A literature search was performed in PubMed (1965-June 2013) and the Cochrane Library (1980-June 2013) using the search terms ocular hypertension, open-angle glaucoma, prostaglandin analogues, bimatoprost, latanoprost, tafluprost, and travoprost. Additional studies were searched from the reference lists of identified publications.

INTRODUCTION: Prostaglandin F2α analogs were the first prostaglandin agonists introduced for glaucoma treatment. Thanks to their efficacy and favorable tolerability they set a high bar in competition, with a resultant paucity in new hypotensive drug development for many years.
