OBJECTIVE: Topical latanoprost 0.005% is commonly used in dogs with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG), and marked miosis has been reported in the literature. To further explore the effect of topical latanoprost on anterior segment anatomy, we performed iridocorneal angle biometrics in normal beagle dogs.

The effect of three different doses (12.5 microgram, 25 microgram and 50 microgram) of 17 phenyl PGF2 alpha on nasal patency in fourteen patients with vasomotor rhinitis was studied on separate occasions. In all subjects the three doses of the prostaglandin analogue increased nasal patency for varying duration. With the 50 microgram single dose the duration of action ranged between three hours and more than seven hours. There were no side effects in most of the patients.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of preservative-free (PF) latanoprost in glaucoma patients.
METHODS: In this prospective, open-label, observational study, a total of 27 primary open-angle glaucoma patients who used benzalkonium chloride-preserved prostaglandin analogues for at least 6 months were enrolled. After changing the eye drops to PF lataprost, the intraocular pressure (IOP) and ocular surface symptoms and signs were evaluated in all patients on days 0 (first visit, D0), 45 (D45), and 90 (D90).

A neuropathological examination was carried out on the brains of 58 foals. Forty-two were pony foals induced at various periods of gestation from 200 days onwards. Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) is antidipsogenic when administered into the lateral cerebral ventricle of the rat. In these experiments PGE1, at a dose of 1 microgram, suppressed water intake induced by centrally administered angiotensin II (AII) or carbachol, subcutaneously administered polyethylene glycol, and water deprivation. The prostaglandin derivatives are thought to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) primarily by increasing uveoscleral outflow.
