Daily nocturnal (N) and diurnal (D) surges of PRL are characteristic of a pseudopregnancy (psp) induced by cervical stimulation (CS). These semicircadian surges persist for 13-14 days, after which time they cease, and psp ends. Jugular plasma prolactin (PRL), growth hormone (GH) and progesterone (P4) levels were estimated in goats under three different conditions with prolonged luteal function (P4 > or = 1 ng/ml): pseudopregnant animals (n = 4), goats hysterectomized during early pregnancy (n = 4) and does with normal pregnancy (n = 4).
