Psychological safety mediates attendance and recovery-related outcomes within the Phoenix: a sober-active community.

BACKGROUND: People in recovery from a substance use disorder often have difficulties forming pro-social relationships or accessing supportive communities. Providing psychological safety within recovery communities may be uniquely beneficial, yet psychological safety has mostly been studied among professional organizations and not among vulnerable populations. This program evaluation study examined associations between attendance, psychological safety, and retrospective recovery-related changes. METHODS: Participants included 204 members of The Phoenix (13% response rate) who completed a surve

METHODS: We created 9 candidate items based on existing literature and expert feedback. These were incorporated into an annual institution-wide traine

Psychological capital, well-being, and patient safety attitudes of nurses and midwives: A cross-sectional survey.

Nursing and midwifery are unarguably stressful endeavors requiring high levels of psychological capital and coping strategies. The impact of the work environment on patient safety outcomes suggests that high nurse/midwife stress may be associated with more adverse patient events. The purpose of this study was to explore the psychological capital of clinical nurses and midwives and identify explanatory factors (including psychological capital, well-being, and health-related behaviors) contributing to attitudes to patient safety. A descriptive web- and paper-based survey comprising a convenience

Unsafe psychological tendencies and self-involvement in coal miners' safety decision-making: a preliminary fNIRS study.

This preliminary fNIRS study examined how miners' safety psychology and self-involvement relate to safety decision-making. Both factors were associated with safe-decision rates, while their interaction affected reaction time. Hemodynamic responses in frontal and temporal regions also varied across decision stages. These findings suggest that individual and situational factors may influence mining-safety decisions, supporting training that addresses risks to miners and coworkers.

Managing the hidden burden: psychological safety as a strategic buffer between nurse mental workload and somatization.

BACKGROUND: Phosgene is a chemical material widely used worldwide. No effective method has been developed to reverse its pathological injuries. Some studies have shown that neuronal inflammation in lung tissue is involved, but the specific mechanism has not been reported. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the expression alterations of whole transcriptome gene sequencing bioinformatics and protein expression profile in lung tissue after phosgene aspiration lung injury (P-ALI) and find the main factors and pathways affecting the prognosis of P-ALI. METHODS: Rat models of P-ALI were made by phosgene. Rats

How safe is too safe? A dual-pathway framework for understanding the dark side of psychological safety.

Psychological safety has become one of the most celebrated constructs in organizational behavior, consistently linked to voice, learning, and team effectiveness. This paper challenges the assumption that reducing interpersonal risk is universally beneficial. Psychological safety operates through two competing pathways: one that enables expression and participation, and one that weakens the interpersonal evaluative pressure, self-monitoring, and norm adherence that sustain coordination and performance. This second mechanism is termed the regulatory loss pathway. The pathway operates through thr

Unpacking leader feedback-seeking behavior: A cost-value perspective on workplace coaching, psychological safety, and Honesty-Humility.

Leaders are encouraged to seek feedback as a pathway to growth, yet not all feedback-seeking reflects genuine developmental intent. Although the cost-value model of feedback-seeking recognizes both informational and image-related motives, little theory explains when, and for whom, each motive dominates leader feedback-seeking behavior (FSB). This conceptual paper addresses that gap by integrating workplace coaching, psychological safety, and the personality trait of Honesty-Humility (HH) within the cost-value model. Workplace coaching is theorized to raise the perceived value of leader FSB thr
