Intolerance of uncertainty in youth: Psychometrics of the Intolerance of Uncertainty Index-A for Children.

Intolerance of uncertainty (IU) is a cognitive vulnerability for pathological anxiety. The current study adapted the Intolerance of Uncertainty Index-A for Children (IUI-A-C), and created a single-item Intolerance of Uncertainty Clinician-Rated Index (IUCR), both of which assess a youth's general inability to endure uncertainty. Psychometric properties of these two measures were evaluated. Participants were 146 youth aged 7-17 years seeking treatment for anxiety. The IUI-A-C evidenced individual item performance (i.e., correlations between each item and the total remainder score > .40, ps <.00

Neurorehabilitation using the virtual reality based Rehabilitation Gaming System: methodology, design, psychometrics, usability and validation.

BACKGROUND: Stroke is a frequent cause of adult disability that can lead to enduring impairments. However, given the life-long plasticity of the brain one could assume that recovery could be facilitated by the harnessing of mechanisms underlying neuronal reorganization. Currently it is not clear how this reorganization can be mobilized. Novel technology based neurorehabilitation techniques hold promise to address this issue. Here we describe a Virtual Reality (VR) based system, the Rehabilitation Gaming System (RGS) that is based on a number of hypotheses on the neuronal mechanisms underlying

[The Korsakoff concept of Karl Bonhoeffer and its relation to the psychometrics of amnestic disorders].

Karl Bonhoeffer set great value on the precise description of psychopathological findings, and was the first to stress the very close relationship between Wernicke's encephalopathy and Korsakoff's psychosis. Proof of mnestic deficiency is still today very important in the exact analysis of chronic symptomatic psychoses. Knowledge acquired in neuropsychology must be incorporated into psychopathometry to enable a more exact analysis of chronic cerebral psychosyndromes. The paper presents a new test to measure mnestic deficiency, suitable for the examination of patients with pseudoneurasthenic sy

Psychometrics of the Lifetime Total Physical Activity Questionnaire in adults with a history of depression.

BackgroundDepression earlier in life is a risk factor for dementia later in life. Physical activity is associated with less risk of depression and dementia. However, prevention of Alzheimer's disease may be most effective before the onset of brain pathology, which precedes dementia symptoms by 20 + years, requiring the measure of physical activity across the life course.ObjectiveAssess the reliability and validity of the Lifetime Total Physical Activity Questionnaire (LTPAQ) in community-dwelling cognitively intact adults with and without a history of depression.MethodsTest-retest reliability

The vague language use scale: Clinical utility and psychometrics from adults with traumatic brain injury.

BACKGROUND: Pragmatic communication difficulties encompass many distinct behaviours, including the use of vague and/or insufficient language, a common characteristic following traumatic brain injury (TBI) that negatively impacts psychosocial outcomes. Existing assessments evaluate pragmatic communication broadly, often with only one or two items capturing each behaviour, thus limiting sensitivity and precision to variations within each behaviour. Given that greater nuance is needed to detect subtle pragmatic communication differences and investigate underlying cognitive mechanisms, a more refi

Psychometrics of health-related quality of life questionnaires in bronchiectasis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Understanding the psychometric properties of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) questionnaires can help inform selection in clinical trials. Our objective was to assess the psychometric properties of HRQoL questionnaires in bronchiectasis using a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature. METHODS: A literature search was conducted. HRQoL questionnaires were assessed for psychometric properties (reliability, validity, minimal clinically important difference (MCID) and floor/ceiling effects). Meta-analyses assessed the associations of HRQoL with clinical measures a

Psychometrics of Three Dissociation Scales: Reliability and Validity Data on the DESR, DES-II, and DESC.

The current study assessed the reliability and validity of three measures of dissociation. Three hundred students completed the Dissociative Experiences Scale Revised (DESR), the Dissociative Experiences Scale-II (DES-II), and the Dissociative Experiences Scale Comparison (DESC); an additional 252 community adults evaluated clarity of instructions. Findings revealed that the three dissociation measures showed acceptable test-retest reliability and Cronbach's alphas. The DESR and DES-II strongly intercorrelated, but the DESC correlated only moderately with the two remaining dissociation measure

Repetitive Behavior Scale for Early Childhood (RBS-EC): Psychometrics and Developmental Effects with a Community Sample.

Restricted, repetitive behaviors and interests (RRBIs) occur commonly in young children in the course of typical development, but too frequent or persistent RRBIs have been linked to a variety of psychosocial and neurodevelopmental disorders. Unfortunately, a lack of psychometrically sound, feasible instruments stymies RRBI study and intervention in early childhood. Therefore, this study validated an extant RRBI measure (i.e., Repetitive Behavior Scale for Early Childhood; RBS-EC) for predominately neurotypical community children ages 2-7 years via an MTurk survey of 300 caregivers. Confirmato
