A Feasibility Study of Group Schema Therapy with Psychomotor Therapy for Older Adults with a Cluster B or C Personality Disorder.

OBJECTIVES: Schema group therapy is an effective treatment for personality disorders, but its focus on cognitive techniques may be a limitation for older adults. This article describes the rationale and initial evaluation of a group schema therapy protocol enriched with psychomotor therapy (GST+PMT) for older adults in geriatric mental health care. METHODS: Within an observational feasibility study, we evaluated the effect of a 26-week GST+PMT program in 19 outpatients aged 60-70 years with a cluster B or C personality disorder on the Young Schema Questionnaire, Schema Mode Inventory and Manc

Speech as an objective measure of psychomotor dysfunction in major depressive disorder: validation from non-speech motor measures.

Psychomotor dysfunction, which can manifest as slowing (psychomotor retardation; PmR) and jerkiness or restlessness (psychomotor agitation; PmA) often occurs in individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD). As psychomotor dysfunction predicts a worse treatment response, accurately measuring and tracking PmR and PmA may improve outcomes. Traditionally, psychomotor dysfunction has been assessed using self-report or observer-based methods, which are often insensitive to subtle but potentially relevant movement abnormalities. Instrumental probes often require specialized equipment. Speech pres

Review of the impact of short-term use of alprazolam on cognitive, psychomotor, and quality-of-life impairments associated with anxiety disorders.

Anxiety disorders are often associated with impairments in memory, attention, decision-making, and psychomotor function, leading to a reduced quality of life (QoL). Alprazolam, commonly prescribed for acute anxiety disorders, has generated interest regarding its potential impact on anxiety-associated cognitive and psychomotor impairment, especially since effects of short-term use have not been well studied. This review summarizes clinical evidence on the short-term (up to 8 weeks) effects of alprazolam on cognitive performance, psychomotor function, and QoL outcomes in individuals with anxiety

Decoding neural circuit dysregulation in bipolar disorder: Toward an advanced paradigm for multidimensional cognitive, emotional, and psychomotor treatment.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is characterized by a complex constellation of emotional, cognitive, and psychomotor disturbances, each deeply intertwined with underlying dysfunctions in large-scale brain networks and neurotransmitter systems. This manuscript integrates recent advances in neuroimaging, neuromodulation, and pharmacological research to provide a comprehensive view of BD's pathophysiology, emphasizing the role of network-specific dysfunctions and their clinical manifestations. We explore how dysregulation within the fronto-limbic network, particularly involving the prefrontal cortex (PFC)

A feasibility study of an add-on psychomotor body-image protocol during CBT-E in female patients with an eating disorder.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Disturbed body image is a potential precursor and maintaining factor when it comes to eating disorders. One of the dominant treatment approaches for eating disorders, enhanced cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT-E), includes the cognitive-affective body image dimension as a core treatment target. Adding a component that focuses on the lived body dimension, could improve body image. In the current study, the feasibility of a psychomotor body image treatment as an add-on to CBT-E was examined. METHODS: In this pilot study, 115 primarily female patients with different eat

Neurodevelopmental Disorder with Psychomotor Delay, Hearing Loss, and Spasticity Caused by Compound Heterozygous SPATA5L1 Variants-Expanding Phenotype.

Background:SPATA5L1-related neurodevelopmental disorder is a recently described condition characterized by psychomotor delay, sensorineural hearing loss, and variable motor dysfunction. Because only a few cases have been reported, the full phenotypic spectrum remains poorly defined. Expanding clinical characterization is crucial for improving early diagnosis and targeted management. Case Presentation: We report a 24-month-old female with compound heterozygous SPATA5L1 variants c.1918C>T (p.Arg640Ter) and c.2066G>T (p.Gly689Val). She presented with global psychomotor delay, bilateral sensorineu

Spontaneous beta power, motor-related beta power and cortical thickness in major depressive disorder with psychomotor disturbance.

INTRODUCTION: The psychomotor disturbance is a common symptom in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). The neurological mechanisms of psychomotor disturbance are intricate, involving alterations in the structure and function of motor-related regions. However, the relationship among changes in the spontaneous activity, motor-related activity, local cortical thickness, and psychomotor function remains unclear. METHOD: A total of 140 patients with MDD and 68 healthy controls performed a simple right-hand visuomotor task during magnetoencephalography (MEG) scanning. All patients were div

State-related differences in the level of psychomotor activity in patients with bipolar disorder - Continuous heart rate and movement monitoring.

Measuring changes in psychomotor activity is a potential tool in the monitoring of the course of affective states in bipolar disorder. Previous studies have been cross-sectional and only some have used objective measures. The aim was to investigate state-related differences in objectively-measured psychomotor activity in bipolar disorder. During a 12 weeks study, repeated measurements of heart rate and movement monitoring over several days were collected during different affective states from 19 outpatients with bipolar disorder. Outcomes included activity energy expenditure (AEE) and trunk ac

Validity and reliability of a cognitive function assessment tool using psychomotor function tests in patients with alcohol use disorders - a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Even after alcohol detoxification, 50-80% of patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD) exhibit cognitive impairments, which affect key domains of social functioning, such as employment, interpersonal relationships, and communication. Therefore, it is necessary to assess cognitive function in patients with AUD in routine practice. However, existing cognitive function assessments are difficult to apply in routine practice because they require a long time, are burdensome on patients, and are limited to evaluators with special training. The present study investigated the relationship be

Psychomotor slowing as a predictor of treatment outcomes in major depressive disorder with acute suicidality: Insights from the OASIS-D study.

Psychomotor slowing (PS) is common across mental disorders and has been linked to the clinical course of major depressive disorder (MDD). Prospective evidence as a predictor of treatment outcomes remains limited. We hypothesized that baseline PS severity would be associated with negative treatment outcomes in patients with MDD including the severity of acute suicidality. We analyzed data from a 6-month prospective, multicenter observational study of inpatients with MDD and acute suicidality. Depression (Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale), suicidality (Sheehan-Suicide Tracking Scale), P

Associations Between Thalamic Gray Matter Volume and Psychomotor Symptoms in Major Depressive Disorder: A Voxel-Based Morphometry Study.

BACKGROUND: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a heterogeneous disorder with diverse symptom profiles and treatment responses. Psychomotor retardation and agitation represent clinically relevant dimensions of MDD heterogeneity, but their neurobiological basis remains unclear. Given the role of the thalamus in motor regulation and affective processing, this study examined thalamic gray matter volume (GMV) differences among patients with MDD with predominant psychomotor retardation (MDD-R), patients with MDD with predominant psychomotor agitation (MDD-A), and healthy controls (HCs). [Use of the experimental-psychological methods for evaluation of psychomotor performance of the flying personnel with functional disorders and diseases of the central nervous system].

The study of mental performance of the flying personnel during medical expertise with respect to complex sensory-motor and logical operations has shown that changes of psychic activity in subjects with early symptoms of cerebral atherosclerosis are more marked than those in subjects with CNS functional disorders. They involve difficulties in attention control, delay in motor responses, deterioration in associative processes. These subjects prove less suitable for flying work: 71% of the pilots examined were grounded by the medical expertise.

Promoting psychological adaptability and well-being of patients with personality disorders with creative arts and psychomotor therapies: protocol of an intervention mapping study.

INTRODUCTION: Personality disorders (PDs) cause much suffering. In treating patients with PDs, it is important not only to focus on reducing symptoms, but also on promoting psychological adaptability and well-being. The experiential nature of Creative Arts and Psychomotor Therapies (CAPTs) contributes to working on psychological adaptability and improving well-being, although more evidence is needed. This protocol paper describes a study to develop and evaluate a CAPTs-intervention aimed at promoting psychological adaptability and well-being in people with PDs. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The CAPTs
