Understanding compassion fatigue among child and adolescent psychotherapists: insights from a thematic analysis.

BACKGROUND: Compassion fatigue is a critical professional challenge for child and adolescent psychotherapists. It stems from prolonged exposure to clients' trauma and emotional suffering, resulting in the depletion of emotional and empathic resources. METHODS: This qualitative study adopted a phenomenological approach and used thematic analysis to examine data collected through semi-structured interviews. RESULTS: Participants described compassion fatigue as a gradual erosion of empathy and vitality that extends beyond emotional exhaustion to impair their ethical and relational capacities.

Trusting the Psychotherapist, Trusting the Governmental System and Perhaps Trusting the Neighbor Next Door: Exploring the Institutional Nature of Trust in Psychotherapists and Examining Different Groups of Trusters in a Large German Patient Sample.

BACKGROUND: Trust in psychotherapists is considered primarily interpersonal. However, psychotherapists could be viewed as representatives of the (healthcare) system. In this study, we investigated whether trust in psychotherapists is more closely linked to interpersonal or institutional trust. Furthermore, we explored whether people can be distinguished into different trust groups. METHOD: In a German cross-sectional study sample, we identified 1,300 persons (61.7% female; M = 48.46 years; SD = 14.45 years) indicating experiences with psychotherapy (current and/or in the past). Correlation an

Relationship-undermining statements by psychotherapists with clients who present with marital or couple problems.

This study examined the prevalence of relationship undermining statements by psychotherapists as reported by clients in individual therapy who presented with relationship problems, and whether these statements were associated with worse outcomes for client relationships. Participants (n = 101) reported on recollections of whether their therapist had suggested that their partner would never change, had a diagnosable personality/mental health disorder, had negative motives, that the relationship was doomed from the start or beyond repair now, or that divorce/breakup was their best option. Psychotherapists' openness to engage their patients in Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy for mental health treatment.

Despite psychedelic research initially ceasing in the 1970-80s, the findings documented encouraged researchers to re-examine the safety and efficacy of treating mental health with psychedelics. Of particular focus, psilocybin has shown to have therapeutic potential for a variety of mental health problems and was granted breakthrough therapy status by the FDA. Should psilocybin eventually become legally licensed, the success of Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy (PAT) may largely rely on clinicians' openness to engage their eligible patients with PAT. We therefore assessed 119 psychologists' openness

Protocol for a qualitative mechanistic study of MDMA with a sample of psychoanalytic psychotherapists: A phenomenological investigation.

INTRODUCTION: Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)-assisted psychotherapy (MDMA-AP) is a potentially transformative intervention for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Despite encouraging Phase III trial results, the psychological mechanisms underpinning MDMA's therapeutic effects remain insufficiently understood. Existing research on MDMA has emphasised neurobiological processes but has not adequately incorporated subjective, relational, and experiential processes that are likely to be central to optimising psychedelic-assisted treatments. In the absence of an established clinical psychol

Medicating to practice: a mixed-methods study of Ukrainian psychotherapists in a shared trauma context.

INTRODUCTION: Psychotherapists working in armed conflict settings are exposed to a shared reality of war that has been shown to affect their personal wellbeing and professional functioning. Existing literature emphasizes self-care, supervision, and personal therapy as coping strategies, yet these may be insufficient under conditions of prolonged war-related distress. In such contexts, psychopharmacological medication may be used to manage stress and sustain therapeutic practice, but this phenomenon remains largely unexplored. This study investigates the prevalence, motivations, perceived effec

Dissemination of evidence-based practices for anxiety disorders in Wyoming: a survey of practicing psychotherapists.

Despite the well-established effectiveness of exposure-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in the treatment of anxiety disorders, therapists have been slow to adopt CBT into their clinical practice. The present study was conducted to examine the utilization of psychotherapy techniques for anxiety disorders among community practitioners in a rural setting in order to determine the current status of the dissemination of CBT. A sample of 51 licensed psychotherapists from various mental health professions was recruited from online practice listings in the state of Wyoming. Participants comple

Anxieties of the Group Psychotherapist: A Psychodynamic Perspective on Countertransference, Group Phases, and the Internal Work of the Therapist.

While patient anxiety is well-documented in psychotherapy literature, the anxieties of the therapist, particularly in group settings, receive considerably less attention. This article explores the specific anxieties experienced by group therapists, their origins, their impact on the therapeutic process, and strategies for their management. It is a theoretical review integrating psychodynamic (e.g. Freud, Bion), relational (e.g. Mitchell), and neurobiological perspectives, illustrated with clinical case material. Group therapists' anxieties are often rooted in early group experiences, narcissis

Disaggregating the South Asian Category: Language-Concordant Psychotherapist Availability and Affordability in the United States.

Mental health workforce research treats South Asian Americans as a single group, yet they speak many mutually unintelligible languages, and language concordance shapes whether people with limited English proficiency (LEP) reach and stay in care. We measured the availability, geographic concentration, and affordability of psychotherapists listing eight South Asian languages. We analyzed 347,464 Psychology Today directory profiles (2025), identified providers listing Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, or Nepali, and linked counts to American Community Survey (2019-2023) spea

[Psychotherapeutic Video Consultations in Primary Care - Concept of the PROVIDE Intervention and Results on the Intent to Adopt in Psychotherapists].

Mental health conditions represent a significant burden to the individual as well as the society. Within the health care system, the general practitioner is the first and, in most cases, the only provider. Timely referral of patients to specialized care is often difficult due to several barriers, particularly in rural areas. These barriers comprise long waiting times, the rising prevalence of psychosomatic and somatopsychic comorbidity, immobility in the elderly and stigmatisation related to mental health conditions. Following the Integrated Health Care approach, diagnosis and therapy of menta
