Resection of Pubic Symphysis and Cystectomy Significantly Improves Short-Term Patient-Reported Physical Functioning Among Patients With Pubovesical Fistula and Pubic Bone Osteomyelitis.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of extirpative surgery for pubic bone osteomyelitis with pubovesical fistula on prostate cancer survivors' physical and mental health. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Short Form 12 (SF-12) is a validated instrument for assessing health-related quality of life (HRQOL). We reviewed a prospectively maintained database of patients treated with extirpative surgery for pubovesical fistula from 2017-2021 who completed the SF-12. Wilcoxon signed-rank and McNemar's tests were used to analyze changes in SF-12 following surgery. Narcotic prescriptions in the year before a

Xanthogranulomatous osteomyelitis of pubic bone mimicking neoplasm: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Xanthogranulomatous osteomyelitis (XO) is a rare disease characterized radiologically by an osteolytic lesion with cortical expansion or disruption. Differentiating this condition from other osteolytic diseases such as primary or metastatic bone neoplasms is imperative. Several case reports have been published on XO, with previous reports predominantly identifying bacteria such as Pseudomonas or Staphylococcus as causative organisms. However, fungal infection-induced XO has not yet been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 23-year-old woman with a tumor-like osteo

Ileal conduit obstruction secondary to tethering of the small bowel anastomosis to the pubic bone.

We present the case of a late 60s male who presented to hospital 3 years postradical cystectomy and ileal conduit diversion with polyuria and acute kidney injury. CT of the kidneys, ureters and bladder (KUB) revealed mild hydronephrosis of a solitary left kidney and a 3-cm calculus in the ileal conduit. The patient subsequently underwent a laparotomy which revealed the cause of obstruction to be tethering of the small bowel anastomosis to the pubic bone. The conduit was excised with the calculus in situ and a new conduit was fashioned. The patient recovered from surgery without complication, a

Pubic Bone Excision and Perineal Urethrectomy for Radical Anterior Compartment Excision During Pelvic Exenteration.

BACKGROUND: Malignant infiltration of the pubic bone traditionally is considered inoperable. Consequently, there is little published on surgical approaches to resection of the anterior pelvic bone. En bloc partial or complete pubic bone excision can be performed depending on the degree of involvement. OBJECTIVE: This article describes our surgical approach of pelvic exenteration with en bloc composite pubic bone excision. DESIGN: The surgical technique describes 2 distinct aspects of the surgery, first, a perineal as opposed to abdominal transection of the urethra, and, second, varying exten

[Occlusion of the common femoral artery by traumatic disjunction of the pubic bones. A case of late diagnois].

A case of tight but limited stenosis of the common femoral artery resulting from traumatic injury to the pelvis with disjunction of the pubic bones is reported. The lesion was initially overlooked and was only diagnosed 13 year later. Repair consisted of limited resection of the occluded arterial segment which was replaced by a Dacron graft. Such lesions of the external iliac/common femoral arteries appear to be rarely associated with traumas of the pelvis. In this particular case, the artery had probably been sheared by the iliopubic tract.

Pain and mean absorbed dose to the pubic bone after radiotherapy among gynecological cancer survivors.

PURPOSE: To analyze the relationship between mean absorbed dose to the pubic bone after pelvic radiotherapy for gynecological cancer and occurrence of pubic bone pain among long-term survivors. METHODS AND MATERIALS: In an unselected, population-based study, we identified 823 long-term gynecological cancer survivors treated with pelvic radiotherapy during 1991-2003. For comparison, we used a non-radiation-treated control population of 478 matched women from the Swedish Population Register. Pain, intensity of pain, and functional impairment due to pain in the pubic bone were assessed with a st

Focal osteopenia of pubic parasymphyseal bone as an underlying cause of groin pain in sports: a new perspective.

Groin pain is a common problem in athletes. The diagnosis can be difficult because of the complexity of the groin anatomy, the numerous clinical entities presenting with similar symptoms, the concurrence of those entities and the confusing terminology. Thus, a dilemma in diagnosis may arise leading to long-standing symptoms, disabling groin pain, mismanagement and therefore to poor treatment. Hereby, we present such a case of a recreational athlete complaining for excruciate pubic pain after being misdiagnosed and subsequently mistreated affecting her quality of life. We report on a new intere

Osteomyelits of the pubic bone with vesicocutaneous - vesicovaginal fistula: A delayed complication of post-cervical cancer radiotherapy.

Vagino-vesico-cutaneous fistula is a rare condition characterised by continuous dribbling of urine and secondary infection of the involved areas with poor self-esteem. Osteomyelitis is delayed complication of radiotherapy treatment for cervical cancer. Treatment of these conditions is a challenging entity especially after previous surgery and irradiation. We present a case of vesicocutaneous - vesico vaginal fistula with osteomyelits of the right pubic bone which was a late complication of post-cervical cancer radiotherapy.

'Everybody looks at my pubic bone'--a case report of an adolescent patient with body dysmorphic disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) was described for the first time more than 100 years ago, but it is still unknown to many clinicians. Although the onset usually occurs during adolescence, BDD has received little attention in the adolescent psychiatric literature. METHOD: The case and treatment of a 16-year-old female patient is described. RESULTS: The patient, suffering from the overvalued belief of a dislocated pubic bone, a comorbid mild depressive episode, BDD associated rituals and social avoidance, was treated successfully with a combination of exposure and response prevention

Pubic bone anchoring in the treatment of women with stress urinary incontinence: new applications to an old concept.

The concept of using the pubic bone as a support for the bladder neck and urethra in the treatment of women with genuine stress urinary incontinence is well established, and is applied in traditional procedures such as Marshall-Marchetti-Krantz and the Burch colposuspensions. Recently, minimally invasive techniques, including the use of laparoscopic surgery and pubic bone anchoring systems, have been introduced. These new techniques, attempt to combine the advantages of retropubic procedures while remaining minimally invasive. A search of the English literature was carried out, traditional and

Non-anatomic fixation for longstanding traumatic pubic diastasis using a bone graft: A report of two cases.

The incidence of internal fixation failure of symphysis diastasis varies from 6% to 75%. Hardware breakage or migration and symphysis disruption recurrence are often asymptomatic and only in a few cases reoperation is required. This report describes the managements of two cases after failed internal fixation and neglected traumatic symphysis diastasis when it was technically impossible to achieve anatomical reduction of the anterior pelvic ring. Internal fixation and a bone graft for the symphysis without anatomical reposition were performed. Both of the patients achieved good results and had
