The successful clinical experience with antibody LL2 (an IgG2a, anti-B-cell lymphoma antibody) in radioimmunodetection and radioimmunotherapy suggests that this antibody may have potential as a carrier of cytotoxic agents. The internalization, cellular trafficking, and catabolism of this antibody in target human Burkitt lymphoma cells (Raji) were investigated. Scintigraphy with 99mTc-labeled anti-granulocyte antibodies (AGAb) was performed in 50 patients with suspected appendicitis. Sequential and static imaging as well as SPECT of the pelvis and abdomen was performed 2 h p.i. In all patients the diagnosis was confirmed either histologically or by long-term follow-up. 13 patients had histologically proven acute appendicitis. Antimyosin antibody was originally developed for in vivo detection of acute myocardial infarction. This is a review article covering the development of monoclonal antibodies attached to a radioactive isotope which are used in scanning for metastatic adenocarcinoma of the colon. The most recent and complete study described 223 patients, of which 169 were evaluated. All patients required an operation. At operation, biopsies were taken of the resected tumor. Some false negative areas, such as dilated varicosities and inflammatory areas, were encountered. Radiolabeled leukocyte scans are used in nuclear medicine to detect sites of infection and inflammation. We have previously demonstrated the use of clinical grade immunomagnetic beads to isolate autologous eosinophils and image their distribution in healthy volunteers. Here we describe the use of radiolabeled eosinophils coupled to single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) to quantify eosinophil uptake in the lungs of healthy volunteers, patients with asthma, and patients with focal eosinophilic inflammation.

Radioimmunoscintigraphy (RIS) with technetium-99m labelled SM3, a monoclonal antibody reacting with a polymorphic epithelial mucin glycoprotein core antigen, is evaluated. No adverse effects or thyroid uptake were observed. Studies in 45 patients (one twice) had a sensitivity for gynaecological malignancy of 100% (35/35) and a specificity of 73% (8/11), giving an overall accuracy of 93% (43/46). These results have led to the routine adoption of 99mTc RIS in the management of patients suspected of or having primary or recurrent gynaecological cancer.
