Replacing saturated fat with PUFA-rich (sunflower oil) or MUFA-rich (rapeseed, olive and high-oleic sunflower oil) fats resulted in comparable hypocholesterolemic effects in cholesterol-fed hamsters.

While the terrestrial fossil record of the mid-Cretaceous interval (Aptian to Cenomanian) in North America has been poorly studied, the recent focus on fossil localities from the western United States has offered a more detailed picture of vertebrate diversity, ecosystem dynamics and faunal turnover that took place on the western landmass of Laramidia. This is in stark contrast to the terrestrial record from the eastern landmass of Appalachia, where vertebrate fossils are rare and consist mostly of isolated and fragmentary remains. However, a detailed understanding of these fossil communities

Inclusion of rapeseed cake or oil in the diet of beef cattle reduces enteric methane emissions without affecting animal performance.

The global methane (CH4) pledge aims to reduce anthropogenic CH4 emissions by 30% by 2030. Oilseed rape (Brassica napus L), a break crop with 40 million ha cultivated globally in 2022, produces fatty acid-rich by-products that could potentially reduce rumen methanogenesis while enhancing meat fat composition. The study objective was to examine the effects of fatty acid supplementation from rapeseed ingredients on DM intake (DMI), average daily gain, gaseous emissions, haematology, rumen fermentation pattern, and fatty acid content of the longissimus dorsi muscle of beef cattle fed a mixed fora

Integrated Experimental and Preliminary In Silico Study of Myrtenyl Dihydrocaffeate: Biocatalytic Synthesis Optimization, Antioxidant Evaluation, and Oxidative Stabilization of Rapeseed Oil.

Dihydrocaffeic acid (DHCA) is a naturally occurring phenolic acid with recognized antioxidant and biological properties. However, its relatively high polarity limits its applicability in lipid-based systems. In this study, myrtenyl dihydrocaffeate was synthesized through lipase-catalyzed esterification of DHCA with myrtenol using immobilized Candida antarctica lipase B. The reaction conditions were optimized using response surface methodology based on a central composite design, yielding an experimental ester yield of 39.94 ± 1.16%. The synthesized ester was characterized by NMR spectroscopy a

Quantification of vitamin A in fortified rapeseed, groundnut and soya oils using a simple portable device: comparison to high performance liquid chromatography.

Vitamin A deficiency is still one of the major public health problems in least developed countries. Fortification of vegetable oils is a strategy implemented worldwide to prevent this deficiency. For a fortification program to be effective, regular monitoring is necessary to control food quality in the producing units. The reference methods for vitamin A quantification are expensive and time-consuming. A rapid method should be useful for regular assessment of vitamin A in the oil industry. A portable device was compared to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for three plant oils (rap

Impact of the addition of 4-vinyl-derivatives of ferulic and sinapic acids on retention of fatty acids and terpenoids in cold-pressed rapeseed and flaxseed oils during the induction period of oxidation.

In the western diet there is an oversupply of n-6 fatty acids. This adverse trend can be balanced by the consumption of rapeseed and flaxseed oils rich in α-linolenic acid (n-3). However, the high share of this fatty acid contributes to low oxidative stability of oil. Oxidation decreases n-3 fatty acid and other bioactive compounds contents, which adversely affects oil nutritional value. In this study, the impact of ferulic and sinapic acids vinyl derivatives on the fatty acids and oil terpenoids (sterols, tocols, carotenoids, squalene) retention at the end of induction period during accelerat

Structured lipids improve fat absorption in normal and malabsorbing rats.

The presence of medium-chain fatty acids in dietary fatty acid as well as the triacylglycerol structure may influence the absorption and lymphatic transport of fatty acids. We compared the lymphatic transport and recovery of fatty acids from four intragastrically administered fats based on rapeseed oil and decanoic acid in two rat models of normal absorption and malabsorption, respectively. The fats were: 1) a fat with a regiospecific structure, 2) a similar fat but with a random distribution of fatty acids in the triacylglycerol molecule, 3) a physical mixture of tridecanoin and rapeseed oil

Thermal degradation pathways of rapeseed aliphatic glucosinolates and flavor characteristics of volatile products.

Glucosinolates are key sulfur-containing metabolites in rapeseed that contribute to the flavor of rapeseed oil. However, the volatile compounds and forming pathways remain unclear. This study investigated changes in rapeseed glucosinolates during thermal processing using HPLC. Aliphatic glucosinolates accounted for 90% of total glucosinolates, and their degradation proceeded extensively during heating. Volatile compounds, including two isothiocyanates, fourteen nitriles, and one indole were identified in the corresponding rapeseed oil via HS-SPME-GC/MS-O. Four major aliphatic glucosinolates we
