The Potential Impact of Job Automation on Veterans in Vocational Rehabilitation Programs.

OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to examine the potential impact of job automation on veterans in the largest U.S. vocational rehabilitation program, the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) program. METHODS: Sixty-two CWT managers were surveyed about common jobs that veterans want and are placed in and about the anticipated impact of job automation on veterans in this program. Probabilistic estimates of job automation were applied to manager responses. RESULTS: The most common jobs veterans want or are placed in have high probabilities of being automated, including housekeeping/janitorial service (66%

A neuropsychological approach to the assessment of adults with learning disabilities in vocational rehabilitation.

A description of cognitive, academic, and personality characteristics of adults with learning disabilities (LD) referred for services through the state/federal vocational rehabilitation system is presented. This study builds on the work of Minskoff, Hawks, Steidle, and Hoffmann (1989) and validates their conclusions that, as a group, adults with LD participating in vocational rehabilitation are homogeneous relative to other groups of adults with LD. By taking a neuropsychological approach to the assessment process, the current study further subdivided the assessment categories described by Min

The transition from medical to vocational rehabilitation in Germany: an exploratory mixed methods study on rehabilitants' experiences.

INTRODUCTION: Medical and vocational rehabilitation are both part of the German rehabilitation system. Both aim to improve the functioning and social participation of people with chronic conditions. Vocational rehabilitation, especially, is intended to enable individuals to participate in working life. These two types of rehabilitation settings are not systematically linked, and, as is the case with other transitions of care, this often poses a challenge for rehabilitants. This study aimed to explore the experiences of individuals transitioning from medical to vocational rehabilitation in Germ

[Chances and successes of vocational training of disabled youth in occupational and vocational school--findings of the BAR-pilot study "Regional Networks for Vocational Rehabilitation of (Learning-) Disabled Juvenile (REGINE)"].

The pilot study "REGINE" was realized on initiative of the Federal Rehabilitation Council (BAR) to test the opportunities of vocational training of learning-disabled youth under "normal" conditions: That means the young people are trained in firms and regular vocational schools, and -- while doing so -- are supported by educational institutions. The project was finished successfully. The results of the evaluation, realized by the Institute for Empirical Sociology at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg were already published in December 2003. They encourage making use of the opportunities of in

Enhancing Vocational Rehabilitation Services for Homeless-Experienced Veterans in Permanent Supportive Housing.

Few homeless-experienced individuals use vocational rehabilitation services. Using qualitative methods, as part of a pilot study at VA Greater Los Angeles (GLA), we characterized the perspectives of homeless-experienced persons and homeless program staff on vocational services. We also explored relationships among employment, housing, and well-being in this group. We interviewed homeless-experienced persons enrolled in vocational rehabilitation services embedded in GLA's permanent supportive housing program (PSH) (n = 19); as well as vocational rehabilitation staff (n = 10). Interviews were an

Patients' perspectives of receiving an early vocational rehabilitation following major traumatic injury.

PURPOSE: Return to work (RTW) after a major traumatic injury (MTI; traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, multi-trauma orthopaedic injury) is an important rehabilitation outcome. This study aimed to explore the experience of early vocational rehabilitation (EVR) after MTI, and RTW barriers/facilitators. METHODS: Adopting a qualitative design, 24 people with MTI were interviewed about participating in the Early Intervention Vocational Rehabilitation Service (EIVRS). Perceptions of EIVRS timing and RTW barriers/facilitators were explored. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysi

Entry into vocational rehabilitation program following work-related hand injury: Potential candidates.

OBJECTIVES: This case-control study aimed to investigate the predictors of return to work (RTW) following work-related major forearm, wrist or hand injury at the preparation stage of return to work. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 80 clients were recruited and divided into 2 groups depending on their readiness of RTW. The groups were compared with each other with regard to their demographics, compensation status, hand injury severity, health perception, and time off work (TOW) using correlation coefficient. Predictors of RTW were measured by logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: There were

Vocational rehabilitation in Wales: a mixed method evaluation of condition management programmes.

Condition management programmes (CMPs) are vocational rehabilitation schemes, which aim to address the needs of disability-related benefit claimants in the UK. The aim of this evaluation was to investigate the extent to which three CMPs in Wales enable individuals to manage health conditions and move closer towards work. Outcome measurements for the Short Form 36 Version 2, General Self Efficacy Scale and Hospital and Anxiety and Depression Scale were collated from 244 clients and analyzed using parametric statistics. Semistructured interviews were also held with members of staff and clients (

The development and evaluation of a vocational rehabilitation training programme for rheumatology occupational therapists.

People with inflammatory arthritis rapidly develop work disability, yet there is limited provision of vocational rehabilitation (VR) in rheumatology departments. As part of a randomized, controlled trial, ten occupational therapists (OTs) were surveyed to identify their current VR provision and training needs. As a result, a VR training course for OTs was developed which included both taught and self-directed learning. The course included: employment and health and safety legislation, work assessment and practical application of ergonomic principles at work. Pre-, immediately post- and two mon

Therefore, vocational rehabilitation programmes are necessary to help people with mental disorders to obtain work. There is increasing scientific evidence concerning positive predictors for vocational integration. This paper intends to give an overview about established predictors for successful integration. METHODS: "Pubmed" was searched for studies on psychiatric vocational rehabilitation programmes published between 1997 and 2007, which had t
